  • Patent number: 7261449
Abstract: A lighting module able to give a light beam with cut-off line for a motor vehicle headlight, comprising a light source, a reflector, a dioptre serving as an exit lens or an exit lens, and a reflective folder. The light source is combined with a collimator in order to give a beam that can be assimilated to a parallel beam, substantially orthogonal to an exit plane of the collimator. The reflector and the dioptre or lens may be combined in a single piece made from transparent material, and the surface of the reflector and that of the folder means work in total reflection according to an air/transparent material interface.

  • Patent number: 6805476
Abstract: A vehicular lamp radiating light emitted by LED light sources through indirect illumination and having uniform brightness. Light from LED light sources is directed upward into parallel beams by Fresnel lenses. The parallel beams are reflected in a frontward direction. A reflector is divided into sub reflectors that differ in height and angle of forward inclination The distance between each LED light source and a corresponding Fresnel lens increases in proportion to a decrease in height of a corresponding sub reflectors, and the intensity of the luminous flux impinging on each Fresnel lens decreases in proportion to a decrease in height of a corresponding sub reflectors. The intensity of luminous flux impinging on each sub reflectors decreases in proportion to a decrease in projected area in a forward direction of the lamp. The sub reflectors have uniform luminance and the entire reflecting surface appears uniform in brightness.

Abstract: Lenses for lamps can improve the quality of the light emitted through lens by interacting with the light bulb. Photoluminescent dyes as well as non-photoluminescent dyes may be incorporated into a polycarbonate lens in order to shift the chromaticity of the light source. Further, design features such as grooves or protrusions may be incorporated into the lens to allow light produced by the photoluminescent material to escape the lens and be added to the emitted beam to further shift the chromaticity. The emitted beam is of a legal color and intensity as defined per the SAE J578 and SAE J1383 standards. The lighting performance may also be improved in such manner as reducing discomfort glare, increasing brightness or producing a beam that enhances road visibility at night to the human eye.

Abstract: A translucent member is arranged so as to cause light originating from an LED light source oriented toward the front of a lamp to enter the translucent member. Outgoing LED light that has entered the translucent member is reflected rearward by a front surface, and then the light is reflected forward by a rear surface, to thereby exit forward of the lamp from the translucent member. At that time, an area on the front surface located in the vicinity of an optical axis Ax is formed as a normal reflection section subjected to reflection surface treatment. The other area of the front surface is formed as an internal reflection section which causes the outgoing LED light to undergo internal reflection. A plurality of reflection elements are formed on the rear surface of the translucent member so as to cause the outgoing LED light reflected from the front surface to enter the internal reflection section at an incidence angle which is smaller than or equal to a critical angle.
