Abstract: In lamp unit 10 having light source lamp 1, reflector 2 for reflecting light from light source lamp 1, reflector holding member 11, and reflector cover 15, a plurality of cooling holes 18a are formed in a region of reflector holding member 11 provided with lamp unit positioner 16a. Cooling holes 18a are open toward an upper bulb area, a lower bulb area, and a cathode of the light source lamp, respectively. Stud 22a for fixing reflector holding member 11 has a throughhole extending at the center thereof, so that cooling air fed from high static pressure blower 27 can be sent to cooling holes 18 through tube 28 and the throughhole of stud 22a, thus efficiently cooling the upper bulb area, lower bulb area, and cathode of light source lamp 1 in a concentrative manner with a small amount of air. Thus, the resulting lamp unit, provided by the present invention, can reduce the amount of air required for cooling the lamp, and can use a high static pressure and small fan.

Abstract: A metal bracket that supports a plurality of lamp units is configured so as to be housed in the lamp chamber and to be tiltably supported by a lamp body. In this situation, a portion of the lamp body is configured so as to be a heat sink. The heat sink and the metal bracket are connected to each other by a flexible heat pipe. With this arrangement, the heat that is generated by light emitting elements included in lamp units is allowed to move to the heat sink via the metal bracket and the flexible heat pipe, and is thereby released into the space that is outside the lamp chamber. Further, due to the transformation of the flexible heat pipe having flexibility, even when the metal bracket is tilted, it is possible to easily maintain the water-proof function of the lamp without hindering the movement of the metal bracket.

Abstract: A sub-assembly for a light-projecting module has an array of LEDs mounted on a circuit board potted in a tray at the bottom thereof by a solidified body of potting material. The body of potting material and the tray are heat-conductive and serve to dissipate heat generated by the LEDs. A light-emitting module includes the sub-assembly and a reflector. The reflector has a base which is assembled in heat-conductive relationship with the tray, so as to facilitate dissipation of heat generated by the LEDs. The reflector is a parabolic reflector which collects light from the LEDs and projects the light as a beam. The reflector contains an optical element for concentrating or diffusing the light projected from the module. The module may be assembled in a housing having an opening through which the light projects so as to provide a light bar suitable for mounting on the dash or windshield of a vehicle.
