  • Patent number: 7461951
Abstract: An illumination module is disclosed, which is comprised of a plurality of light sources, a plurality of light source substrates of high thermal conductivity, and a reflecting member for reflecting light. The plural light source substrates are arranged at positions corresponding to each other so as to form a polygon periphery of the illumination module, whereas the inner surface of the polygon periphery is enabled for at least one of the plural light sources to fit therein. The reflecting member is placed at the center of the module where it is corresponding to each of the plural light source substrates so as to reflect the light emitting from the light sources fitted thereon. In addition, a lens with light refraction ability is disposed at the light emitting end of the illumination module so as to enable the light illumination module to have light condensing/diffusing capability.

Abstract: A light engine for use in systems such as automotive lighting systems employs two or more semiconductor light sources, such as LEDs. Light emitted from the light sources is captured by light pipes which are mounted such that the light capturing surface of the light pipes are properly positioned, with respect to the semiconductor light sources, substantially independent of changes in the dimensions of the light pipes which may result from thermal expansion or contraction of the light pipes. The light pipes transfer substantially all of the light captured from the semiconductor light sources to light emitting surfaces of the light pipes which can be appropriately located adjacent the output optics of the lighting system. The light engine can be easily assembled as the light pipes are retained in slots on a positioning member which is mounted at a known position with respect to the semiconductor light sources.

Abstract: A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed as having a light source, a chamber within which the light source is located, and a cooling channel extending through the chamber. The chamber substantially fluidly sealed from the atmosphere and the cooling channel is fluidly sealed from the chamber to prevent direct fluid exchange between the chamber and the channel. Heat exchange, however, is permitted between the chamber and the cooling channel. The heat exchange may be further promoted by a plurality of heat exchange fins extending away from the wall of the cooling channel.
