Valve Or Gate Patents (Class 366/192)
  • Patent number: 4316671
Abstract: An apparatus for mixing solid particles and a liquid, especially wood chips and glue. A motor-driven stirrer in a cylinderical trough continuously mixes the materials which enter at one end of the trough and are discharged at the other end. The outlet of the trough has a pivotable throttle with a counterweight which controls the degree of opening of the throttle. An electrical signal related to the load on the stirrer motor is the control signal for a control loop whose final control element displaces the counterweight to maintain the electrical load of the drive motor approximately constant.

  • Patent number: 4286883
Abstract: Apparatus for blending bulk particulate solids comprises a distribution chute bin, a cone section having outer and inner cones, and a flow pattern controller outlet device. The solids may be recirculated from the outlet device to the chute bin for additional blending. The chute bin prevents particle size segregation by causing mixing of coarse and fine particles. The inner cone permits mass flow adjacent the outer cone, and also enforces the flow velocity profile imposed at the bottom of the cones to continue to the top of the inner cone. The flow pattern controller is operable to shift between a blending mode resulting from the difference in the velocity profiles within and around the inner cone and a uniform flow mode useful when emptying the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4184772
Abstract: This invention provides in a continuously operating device having a mixing section comprising opposite-handed helical threads in each of the two relatively rotatable components which threads vary in cross-sectional area in complementary fashion so as to produce a layer-by-layer material transfer and shear working between the said components, that the said opposite handed helical threads in said mixing section complement one another substantially also in respect to their helix-angles to the extent that if one helix angle is between 0.degree.and 45.degree. the other is between 45.degree. and 90.degree., to bring about, viewed with respect to the shear-plane-area, a subdivision sufficient for the mixing and compounding requirement.

  • Patent number: 4160602
Abstract: A multi-chamber pack comprising at least two chambers separated by a frangible partition and externally operable means for breaking the partition, and means for mixing the contents of the chambers. The mixing means are formed by an agitator element operative by rotation, more particularly one or more vanes, said element being disposed rotatably in one of the chambers. An actuating element is disposed rotatably on the outside of the pack and is coupled to the agitator element so as to rotate therewith and serves to drive the latter. The means for breaking the partition are in the form of a push rod fixed to an inwardly deformable wall part of the pack.

  • Patent number: 4146334
Abstract: The pneumatically operated apparatus includes a transparent, calibrated paint container to facilitate measuring of the required proportions of color and solvents. A vertically displaceable and rotatable member extends through and seals an opening in the bottom of the container. The member has a hollow body forming a paint passage. An agitator is sealingly mounted on the end thereof extending through the opening and into the container, the other end being opened. An aperture is provided in the wall of the member spaced a short distance from the agitator. A friction surface is provided for connecting a pneumatically operated drive to the member to rotate same.

  • Patent number: 4136973
Abstract: A cylindrical tank supported on the frame of a vehicle for transporting a mixture of manure and a further liquid, usually water. To prevent the agglomeration of solid and semi-solid materials within the tank, guide members are provided to produce recirculating and swirling motions of the mixture within the tank as the result of normal movements of the vehicle while carrying the tank during travel, such motions being produced primarily by deceleration of the vehicle. The main guide member is supported in the tank so as to be inclined downwardly to the rear whereby when the vehicle stops, the liquid mixture tends to surge forward up the inclined guide member. A second guide member extending from the top of the tank downwardly at an inclination opposite to that of the first guide member and above same tends to prevent liquid mixture which has surged into the forward portion of the tank from sloshing to the rear in the upper part of the tank.

  • Patent number: 4119304
Abstract: A mixing valve is located at the opening of a mold cavity to control the flow of a fast setting mixture into the mold and to mix the ingredients forming the mixture immediately prior to dispensing into the mold. The valve includes a plurality of mixing elements on a mixing head which rotates about its own axis within the valve housing and which cooperates with the housing to define a mixing chamber receiving the ingredients. When the valve is open, the plurality of mixing elements supported from the head in the mixing chamber are rotated with the head to mix the ingredients into the fast setting mixture. The head also reciprocates along its axis to open and close the valve and completely fills the chamber to eject the mixed ingredients when the valve is closed.

  • Patent number: 4063715
Abstract: A bowl having a bottom discharge opening is mounted at its periphery on a frame for rotation about an upright axis. A discharge gate is mounted on the frame under the bowl for movement along the bowl axis to control the discharge opening. A top inlet opening directs material to be processed onto the discharge gate. This material is propelled in a straight line radially up the inner wall of the rotating bowl by centrifugal force between radial vanes. Stationary guide vanes are suspended within the interior of the bowl to intercept the material at the upper margin of the bowl and direct the material in streams which collide in the center of the bowl to mix and/or triturate the material. Turning vanes or discharge cups are mounted for movement into registration with the guide vanes to direct the streams toward the discharge opening when the discharge gate is open.
