Abstract: Embodiments generally provide techniques for mapping service modules on a network device. Embodiments identify a plurality of service modules, each configured to perform a respective service. A first one of the plurality of service modules is mapped to a first one of a plurality of virtual switches on the network device. Service policy information for a plurality of virtual switches is retrieved. The service policy information is indicative of service requirements for each of the plurality of virtual switches. Upon detecting an occurrence of a predefined event, embodiments determine a second one of the plurality of virtual switches to map the first service module to, based on the service policy information. The first service module is then mapped to the second virtual switch.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a method for using a listening policy for a virtual server on an intermediary device. An intermediary device establishes for a first virtual server a first listening policy with an expression for evaluating packets received by the intermediary device to determine whether the packet may access the first virtual server. The intermediary device listens for packets at a first internet protocol (IP) address and a first port specified for the first virtual server. Then, the intermediary device evaluates the expression of the first listening policy to a first packet received at the first IP address and first port and determines whether to provide the first packet to the first virtual server based on a result of the evaluation.

  • Patent number: 8719398
Abstract: A network performance monitor for a computer. The performance monitor maintains a baseline for communication paths between a networked computer and other networked computers connected. The network performance baseline is established and maintained by measuring and updating network performance parameters of the communication paths. The network performance parameters are updated using values obtained during time intervals when the communication path consumed a bandwidth approximately equal to its estimated bandwidth. If congestion is detected on the network or the network is underutilized, values of the network performance parameters obtained during that interval are not used to update the network performance parameters. Some performance parameters in the baseline, such as minimum and maximum bandwidth values may be updated by computing a moving average of each parameter. Asymmetric weight values for updating the moving average may be selected based on a direction of change of a value of a network parameter.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention employ specially adapted P2MP and MP2P transmission techniques to communicate traffic of a TDM based SCADA system over an IP/MPLS based network. Advantageously, by specially adapting P2MP and MP2P transmission techniques to carry TDM based SCADA traffic over an IP/MPLS network, an existing TDM based SCADA system can be migrated to an IP/MPLS network and operated in an easy to manage and bandwidth efficient manner as compared to a solution that employs point-to-point connections between a SCADA master node and subsystems over an IP/MPLS network. Furthermore, since TDM based SCADA equipment would not need to be replaced with IP based SCADA equipment in such a migration, significant equipment and installation costs associated with such replacement can be avoided.

Abstract: In general, techniques are described for measuring packet data unit (PDU) loss in a L2 virtual private network (L2VPN) service, such as a VPLS instance. In one example of the techniques, provider edge (PE) routers that participate in the L2VPN measure known unicast and multicast PDU traffic at the service endpoints for the instance to determine unicast PDU loss within the service provider network. As the routers learn the outbound service (i.e., core-facing) interfaces and outbound local (i.e., customer-facing) interfaces for L2 addresses of customer devices that issue packets to the VPLS instance, the routers establish respective unicast transmit and receipt counters for the service endpoints that serve the customer devices. In another example, PE routers that participate in the L2VPN measure multicast PDU traffic at the service endpoints for the instance and account for internal replication by intermediate service nodes to determine multicast PDU loss within the service.

  • Patent number: 8619594
Abstract: The system and method get a packet trace for a failed communication and a packet trace for a successful communication. The two packet traces are generated with packets from a common protocol(s) shared by the two communications. The failed and successful communications have at least some network elements in common. A field(s) in the common protocol(s) is identified. The field(s) is updated to be the same in both packet traces. The two packet traces are then compared to produce a list of remaining differences that can be used to diagnose problems in the failed communication. The list can also be compared to bills of materials for the failed and successful communications to further enhance diagnosis of the failed communication.

  • Patent number: 8619768
Abstract: Described are a method and a sensor aware network for dynamic processing of sensor data. Network context data are inserted into data packets from sensors or local sensor networks coupled to the sensor aware network. Sensor aware nodes in the sensor aware network can read the context data and can respond by performing specific network actions. The sensor data and network context data are provided to one or more application nodes. The sensor data and network context data can be stored in a database and later searched according to the network context data. Advantageously, sensor data flows can be treated differently by the sensor aware network, the application and the user, depending on the type of sensor data and the actual data values. Thus critical responses to certain sensor data flows can be implemented more efficiently than otherwise possible using conventional network configurations.

Abstract: A call routing system for use with a wireless telephone systems is disclosed. The system, which monitors the subscriber's current physical location, determines the device to which a call should be terminated, and routes the call. The device can be any IP telephone, including a cable television system adapted to IP telephony. The system routes calls without direct subscriber actions, without a second telephone number, regardless of the time of day and day of week. Various options can also apply to a call, determined by subscriber-established preferences, when specified criteria are met, or calls can be limited to/from specified telephone numbers. The system and method uses signaling techniques that will allow routing of the call, along with any authorization or restrictions, to be done remotely from the actual switching of the call. Call events are transmitted to the call routing system while the communications path of the call is held at the switching system awaiting call routing information.
