Patent number: 8428014Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing an enhanced random access procedure in a Cell_FACH state are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits a random access channel (RACH) preamble for random access. If a positive acknowledgement (ACK) is received in response to the RACH preamble, the WTRU enters a contention resolution phase and transmits a message via an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH). If contention resolution fails, the RACH preamble is retransmitted. A contention back-off timer may be used for retransmission. A physical random access channel (PRACH) code may be reselected. The RACH preamble may be retransmitted using a reserved PRACH resource so that E-DCH resource is allocated to the collided WTRUs. Data transmitted during the contention resolution phase may remain in a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) buffer. The MAC-i/is entity may be reset. All data sent during the contention resolution phase may be stored in a temporary buffer.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2008Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Interdigital Patent Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Christopher R. Patent number: 8411646Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate scheduling uplink transmissions. For instance, a time sharing scheme can be utilized such that differing mobile devices can be scheduled to transmit during differing time slots; however, it is also contemplated that a static scheme can be employed. Pursuant to an illustration, an interference budget can be combined with a time varying weighting factor associated with a base station; the weighting factor can be predefined and/or adaptively adjusted (e.g., based upon a load balancing mechanism). Moreover, the weighted interference budget can be leveraged for selecting mobile devices for uplink transmission (e.g., based at least in part upon path loss ratios of the mobile devices). Further, disparate interference budgets can be utilized by differing channels of a sector at a particular time. Also, for example, a base station can assign a loading factor to be utilized by wireless terminal(s) for generating channel quality report(s).Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2007Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Xinzhou Wu, Sundeep Rangan, Prashanth Hande, Arnab Das, Junyi Li

Patent number: 8401020Abstract: Requests of resources of uplink flows towards a base station (BS) and/or downlink flows towards end nodes are computed by each requesting node on an end-to-end basis. Each requesting node issues a cumulative request given by summing up the same request for each link separating the node from the BS plus each link separating the BS from the destination node, enabling the centralized node to perform connection based scheduling. The BS in response to all cumulative requests grants uplink and/or downlink resources for each link. The profile of grants is equal to the profile of requests when the amount of resources requested is below the maximum net throughput on MAC layer. When not below the maximum net through-put on MAC layer, the ideal profile of grants is normalized with respect to a ratio between the maximum net throughput on MAC layer and the amount of the overall requested resources.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2006Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Siemens S.p.A.Inventors: Antonio Capone, Luca Coletti, Luigi Fratta, Lino Moretti, Simone Redana, Nicola Riato

Publication number: 20130058323Abstract: According to the known IEEE 802.11s Draft Standard for WLAN Mesh Networking, version D5.0, the size of an information element is restricted to a length of 255 octets. Due to the definition of an MCCAOP advertisements element as a general information element this restriction is a major drawback leading to a maximum of 62 MCCA reservations to be advertised by an MCCAOP advertisements element. Although this number of reservations might be sufficient in the majority of situations, it is easily imaginable that there are situations which could require an advertisement exceeding this limit of 62 MCCA reservations. According to the disclosure, an MCCAOP advertisement—which is a set of MCCAOP reservations that needs to be advertised—is split over multiple MCCAOP advertisements elements. This may advantageously allow advertising more than 62 MCCAOP reservations to neighboring mesh nodes in a wireless mesh network which is configured to use MCCA.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2011Publication date: March 7, 2013Inventor: Michael Bahr

Patent number: 8305965Abstract: This invention is a method for extending the coverage and/or improving the capacity of wireless communication networks comprising inserting a Relay Node (RN) in the Radio Access Network (RAN). The relay node relays the signal between the Base Station node (eNB) and the User Equipment (UE). The relay node is wirelessly connected to the base station. The base station uses the same radio access technology (RAT) for the base station to user equipment link and the base station to relay node link. The relay node uses the same radio access technology for the base station to relay node link and the relay node to user equipment link. The relay node is non-transparent and seen as base station by the user equipment.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2010Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Zukang Shen, Pierre Bertrand, Sandeep Bhadra, Eko N. Patent number: 8300618Abstract: When a source node (SN) seeks to transmit a first communication stream (FCS) to a destination node (DN), a method is provided for allowing the SN to preempt a lower priority communication stream (LPCS). User priorities are supported during slot scheduling based on stream-identifiers (IDs) and stream priority values exchanged by each of the nodes. A scout request message (SRM), which includes a stream ID and a user priority value of the SN, is transmitted to a next-hop node along a route towards the DN. A node along the route determines if free time slots are available along the route to meet QoS requirements of the FCS, and if not, the node determines whether there is a LPCS in the neighborhood, and if so, the node frees the particular time slots currently being used by the LPCS, and allocates the particular time slots for the FCS.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2007Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Motorola Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Avinash Joshi, Manish Shukla

Patent number: 8295269Abstract: A technique for providing a voice traffic indication in a communication network includes creating a request to set up a communication session in a first network element of the network, the request including a voice traffic indication. The request is then forwarded to a second network element which detects the voice traffic indication in the forwarded request. The second network element then sets up the communication session in response to the request taking into account that voice traffic is to be transferred. The communication channel may include a PDP context. The second network element may be one of an SGSN, a GGSN, or an RNC. The first network element may include an MS.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2001Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Tuija Hurtta, Marc Greis

Patent number: 8295262Abstract: A method for multiplexing reference signal (RS) transmissions from user equipments (UEs), with the RS having a bandwidth larger than the data signal bandwidth (distributed RS) is provided. A transmission time interval (TTI) comprises of one or more sub-frames and each sub-frame comprises of at least two RS transmission periods and a plurality of data signal transmission periods. A distributed RS is transmitted during at least one of the at least two RS transmission periods in at least one of the sub-frames comprising the TTI. During the remaining RS transmission periods, for a UE having a data signal transmission, the RS bandwidth is substantially the same as the data signal bandwidth (localized RS). The total system bandwidth is divided into contiguous, non-overlapping sub-bandwidths, called reference signal multiplexing blocks (RSMBs). Transmission of distributed RS occurs within an RSMB and does not cross over different RSMBs.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2006Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Tarik Muharemovic, Aris Papasakellariou
