Having A Separate Signaling Network Patents (Class 370/385)
  • Patent number: 5768361
Abstract: The Flexible Enhanced Signaling Subsystem (FESS) performs table-driven processing of incoming and outgoing messages and also handles multiple message types and trunk groups. A message received by the FESS is first processed by an incoming signaling module which performs all necessary transformations to the message to enable the existing switch processing to handle any incoming message. The incoming signaling module, being table-driven, can be easily modified to handle any new message types which may be created. The message is then processed by an intermediate signaling module which includes the existing call processing, The intermediate signaling module may pass through messages, or it may generate new messages. In either case, an outgoing signaling module performs all necessary transformations to messages output from the intermediate signaling module to enable the outgoing trunk, downline switch or downline network to handle the message properly.

  • Patent number: 5673312
Abstract: A telecommunication network supports subscribers and recognizes a request for call origination by a calling party on an associated communication line. A first record in a database is located based on the identification of the calling party's line. A first set of predetermined features is determined based on information contained in the first record. A personal identification number of the calling party is received. A second record in a database is located based upon the PIN; the second record is independent from the first record. A second set of predetermined features is determined based upon information contained in the second record. The set of features made available to the calling party is determined based on a consideration of the total set of call features in the first and second sets of features.

  • Patent number: 5671251
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a data communications device to selectively operate in a plurality of analog and digital modes, including as an analog modem, as a digital modem, and as a terminal adapter. The embodiments provide for a single, integrated data communications device to be configured and also subsequently reconfigured to provide for data communications over a variety of networks, including public switched telephone networks and digital networks, including T1, E1 and ISDN. The various embodiments also provide for signal simulation of the various networks, such that the actual coupled network is transparent to a data terminal transferring information through the data communication device to the network.

  • Patent number: 5668860
Abstract: A telecommunication network has first and second subscribers connected to first and second telecommunication switches, respectively. A third switch is disposed at a hierarchical level above the second switch and receives a call setup message. The call setup message includes a first group affiliation parameter defining one organization of which the first subscriber is a member and a destination number of the second subscriber called by the first subscriber. A record in a database coupled to the third switch is located in response to receiving the call setup message. The located record is based on the destination number contained in the call setup message. A call screening parameter stored in the record is also identified. A determination is made of whether the call will be allowed to terminate to the second subscriber based on a comparison of the call screening parameter and the first group affiliation parameter. Thus, call screening is based on the membership of the first subscriber in an organization.

  • Patent number: 5655001
Abstract: A method and apparatus for offering wireless telecommunication service. A switch such as an automatic Private Branch Exchange (PBX), equipped to communicate with Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) stations sends ISDN signaling messages to and receives ISDN signaling messages from a protocol converter. The protocol converter, which also communicates with a wireless cell site, converts messages between the ISDN protocol and a protocol for communicating with the wireless cell site. The cell site sets up wireless connections to a mobile station, essentially in its prior art mode, and the PBX sets up connections to the cell site essentially in its prior art ISDN station control mode. The PBX is connected to a class 5 (central office) telecommunications switching system for establishing connections between the public switched telephone network and the PBX, or between outlets of the PBX for a call between wireless stations.

  • Patent number: 5629926
Abstract: A CPE such as an ISDN telephone subset or multimedia equipment includes an interface recognition unit that connects to the network interface and adapts itself to allow the CPE to be used with standard ISDN interfaces and an analog interface. The interface recognition unit includes an interface recognition switch (IRS) that performs two functions. First, the IRS protects the CPE from damage in those instances where a non-standard network interface is connected to the CPE. Second, for standard interfaces, it identifies the type of network interface and routes the incoming signals appropriately. Specifically, if the IRS detects a T interface, the incoming signals are switched directly to a T interface circuit for controlling and powering the higher functions of the CPE. If the IRS detects a U interface, incoming signals are automatically switched to a U interface circuit for controlling and powering the CPE.

  • Patent number: 5625685
Abstract: A network termination unit to connect a plurality of analog terminals and digital terminals to a U interface of an ISDN telecommunications network. An echo compensator is connected to the U interface to suppress an echo signal produced by the attachment of the terminal device to the U interface. A first bus connects the echo compensator to a communication controller, an a/b interface component block that is compatible with an a/b interface to which an analog terminal is connected, and an S interface component block to which a digital terminal is connected. A processor system, connected to communication controller and a/b interface component block, programs the echo compensator and the S interface component block. B channels of the ISDN telecommunications network are activated and deactivated in response to commands issued by the communication controller. The processor system further evaluates and prepares D channel signalling data for the a/b interface component block.

  • Patent number: 5610976
Abstract: A connection control equipment can connect a plurality of calls originating from a terminal to a private side terminal by identifying the calling terminal. Each of the user terminals sets a calling number and a calling sub-address or a user-to-user information for identifying the terminal in a call-setting message. A switching system of the connection control equipment receives the call-setting message and stores the calling number and the calling sub-address or the user-to-user information of the message, and connects the call to a private side terminal with which the same user terminal issuing the just received call is communicating. The switching system can connect calls from the same user terminal to the same private terminal, allowing for any user terminal to freely transmit a plurality of calls without considering how to access a host computer.

  • Patent number: 5610977
Abstract: A method of providing number portability for the treatment of calls from a calling party to a specific number of a called party is disclosed. An Initial Address Message (IAM) containing the calling and called party's numbers to enable said call to reach said terminating office is forwarded from an originating office to a terminating office. Once the IAM is received at the terminating office, a determination of whether the call is directed to a portable number is made. If the call is directed to a portable number, a release message containing an indication that the called party number is, a portable number and containing new routing information is forwarded from the terminating office to the originating office. A new IAM is then sent from the originating office to a terminating office associated with the routing information.

At the SCP, the called party number is translated to obtain new routing information.

  • Patent number: 5602837
Abstract: Disclosed is a personal handy phone system subjected to improvements over the prior art system by disposing an ADPCM/PCM converter necessarily required in a base station on an exchange side, notifying error information utilizing each slot, performing interpolation processing on the exchange side. The B channel having a transmission rate of 64 kbps of ISDN is divided into the first half of 32 kbps and the latter half of 32 kbps. The voice data of 32 kbps ADPCM prepared on a radio section of the system is multiplexed on either half of the B channel divided into two halves and the system information is multiplexed on the remaining half of the channel. Processing procedures by means of an ordinary D channel can thereby be carried out as it is, independent of the PHS condition on the line exchange of ISDN and without touching entirely on a network.

  • Patent number: 5602840
Abstract: In an ISDN switching system, a program module is set up in accordance with the principles of object-oriented programming for the handling of switched connections. The protocol modules used in protocol architectures (for example CCITT recommendations) for the standardization of functional switching procedures are represented as object-oriented structural elements. During the implementation of the system program module in the switching system, objects are instantiated for connections and/or for calls and/or for signaling operations. A copy of the data area belonging to the structural element concerned is in each case set up in the data store as a kind of pattern. The data individual to the connection or call or signaling are entered into this pattern. The data areas remain in existence only for the duration of the connection or the call or the signaling operation concerned.

Abstract: A subscriber system (10), operating in combination with other similar subscriber systems, for collectively and swiftly distributing multiple copies of digital data to a large number of other subscriber systems. The subscriber system (10) receives digital data and stores it on a storage device (38).
