Abstract: In order to carry out actions such as setting up a call from an entity in the address realm of one middlebox to an entity in the address realm of another middlebox, then a middlebox control node such as a call server is used. Previously, the middlebox control node has needed to have pre-configured information about all the middleboxes and which address realms they are associated with. The present invention provides one or more middlebox-identity-providing nodes which are separate from the middlebox control node, and which are more directly connected to the end users of the service than the middlebox control node. This provides greater flexibility in network design and removes the need for middlebox information to be pre-configured at the middlebox control node. Instead, this information is sent to the middlebox control node, as part of signalling messages, from middlebox-identity-providing nodes.

Abstract: Aspects of the invention pertain to transmitting packet data across a computer network. The packets may be sent via one or more distinct routes from a source to a destination. Each route may employ multiple routers disposed along the network. Non-colliding routes are determined by transmitting pairs of probe packets along the routes. A first probe packet has a maximal length, and a second probe packet has a minimal length. Depending on the order of arrival of the probe packets, the system determines whether two transport layer ports at the destination device collide. If there is a collision, then the system searches for a set of non-colliding ports. Once the non-colliding ports are determined, application data may be sent as packets along the different routes to those ports.

  • Patent number: 8391165
Abstract: Multimedia IMS communications are established by matching callee capabilities with caller preferences and identifying a URI parameter in response thereto. When a session initiation protocol (SIP) request identifying caller preferences for an internet communication session and an identified callee is received (602), a determination is made of whether the identified callee is a registered address of record (AOR) or not (604). If the identified callee is a registered AOR (604), a uniform resource identifier (URI) parameter and a globally routable user agent URI (GRUU) associated with callee capabilities are identified (608, 612, 614). The URI parameter is used to create a modified SIP including the URI parameter (616) for sending (618) to an IMS enabled wireless communication device (120).

Abstract: A signaling server (SS) comprising means for transmitting SIP signaling messages with a client (T) through a NAT address translation device temporarily binding a public address to the client's private address, including means for receiving registration messages from the client and for sending the client a validity duration, at the end of which it must transmit a new registration message. The invention resides in the fact that if the client is located behind an address translation device, it determines an approximate expiry time for the temporary binding by successively sending test messages after an increasing wait time until the termination of the binding is detected. This approximate time is then used by being transmitted as the SIP validity period.

Abstract: A system and a method for performing session setup in a wireless communication system that uses a Mobile Internet Protocol (MIP) are provided. In the method, when at least one Mobile Node (MN) requests registration, a Network Access Identifier (NAI) of the MN is determined. A session Identification (ID) is assigned to the NAI of the MN. The session ID assigned to the NAI is inserted into an Identification Low field forming a registration request field of a message requesting registration of the MN. The message is transmitted to a Home Agent (HA) of the MN. A Foreign Agent (FA) can more easily search for an MN corresponding to a registration reply message provided from the HA, and memory consumption and a time delay that occurs due to a hash method may be reduced.

Abstract: A system and method for endpoint handoff in a hybrid peer-to-peer networking environment are provided. In one example, the method includes logging into the peer-to-peer network by a first endpoint. The first endpoint directly notifies a second endpoint that the second endpoint is to transfer an active communication session existing between the second endpoint and a third endpoint from the second endpoint to the first endpoint. The first endpoint receives session parameters associated with the active communication session directly from the second endpoint and directly notifies the third endpoint that the first endpoint is online. The first endpoint then re-establishes the active communication session with the third endpoint using the session parameters.

  • Patent number: 8374622
Abstract: Call admission control within a wireless network is implemented using a service controller that manages a set of access points. The call admission control (CAC) function for a given access point determines whether the access point has sufficient unused bandwidth to handle an additional call. The service controller makes this determination by monitoring the access points and evaluating certain probability functions and load conditions. In one embodiment, a determination of whether the access point has sufficient unused bandwidth to handle an additional call is a function of two (2) independent probabilities: (i) a probability of an active session moving to the access point from one or more neighbor access points, and (ii) a probability of an idle mobile device already associated with the access point entering into a new active session by initiating an inbound or outbound call.
