For Connecting Plural Subscribers To A Network (i.e., Network Termination) Patents (Class 370/420)
  • Patent number: 6873622
Abstract: A method for controlling customers' access to services on a broadband network. The method uses a circuit identifier, unique to each customer, to compare service requests with service entitlements. The network provider flows the circuit identifiers to the service providers where relationship between the circuit identifiers and the service entitlements is established in service orders. Service providers flow the service orders back to the broadband network though a standard business system interface. The relationship between the circuit identifiers and the service requests is accomplished at the Broadband Digital Terminal that interface the customers to the broadband network. The circuit identifiers also permit sorting of data bases containing logs of service requests and logs of maintenance actions.

Abstract: A method and system that enables multiplexing a plurality of data streams onto one data stream based on data stream priorities and available transport frame combinations (TFCs) is disclosed. A mobile station has applications that produce separate data streams. Example applications include voice, signaling, E-mail and web applications. The data streams are combined by a multiplexer module into one data stream called the transport stream. The transport stream is sent over the reverse link to base station transceivers (BTS). The multiplexer module multiplexes the data streams onto the transport stream according to thier priorties and the available TFCs.

  • Patent number: 6804233
Abstract: A method and system are provided for trunking multiple links between a switch and a server. Server drivers recognize and automatically configure additional installed network interface cards (NICs) or multi-port NICs as group members. A monolithic driver, or an overlaying driver shim makes the group of NICs appear to be a single NIC to the server operating system and clients. Multiple NICs having the same MAC address and appearing on different ports are connected directly to a switch which treats the group as a single logical port. Using a deterministic algorithm, the switch looks up a received packet's destination in the address table. A list of possible ports for reaching the server and a flag indicating that the server is to be reached via this trunked group of ports are retrieved. The switch selects a port based upon the packet's source address. On the trunk to the clients, the server driver performs the same deterministic algorithm on the destination addresses.

Abstract: Transmission methods for multicast messages and for signaling message responses thereto in communication systems supporting a multicast mode provide that a number of retransmissions of a multicast message may be changed based on a number of receivers of the message. Signaling messages to the multicast message may be transmitted in response to a fixed number of multicast message transmissions, and receivers that have not received the multicast message after the fixed number of transmissions may request further retransmissions up to an additional given number of times. Further, signaling messages may be transmitted at different times or staggered based on a radio condition of the receivers. For example, a first multicast message may be transmitted, and responses from groups of receivers may be listened to for a given period, after which one of a next multicast message and a portion of the first multicast message may be transmitted to the groups.

  • Patent number: 6795442
Abstract: A system includes interconnected computers and switching nodes. A source computer for the virtual circuits schedules message transmissions on a round-robin basis. Each switching node also forwards messages in a round-robin manner, and a destination computer schedules processing of received messages in a round-robin manner. In addition, messages are transmitted in cells to reduce delays in short messages if long messages are transmitted for one virtual circuit before transmission of a short message for another virtual circuit. For each virtual circuit, the destination computer and each switching node can generate a virtual circuit flow control message to temporarily limit transmissions if the resources being taken up by messages exceed predetermined thresholds. In addition, each switching node or computer can generate link flow control messages for transmission to neighboring devices to temporarily limit transmissions if the resources taken up by all virtual circuits exceeds predetermined thresholds.

Abstract: Offering vertical services to subscribers and service providers is an avenue to immediately improve the competitiveness of digital subscriber line access service, for example of the type offered by a local exchange carrier. To deliver high-quality vertical services, however, the underlying ADSL Data Network (ADN) or the like needs to establish Quality of Service (QoS) as a core characteristic and offer an efficient mechanism for insertion of the vertical services. The inventive network architecture introduces QoS into the ADN, in a manner that enables the delivery of sophisticated and demanding IP-based services to subscribers, does not affect existing Internet tiers of service, and is cost-effective in terms of initial costs, build-out, and ongoing operations.

  • Patent number: 6728248
Abstract: An optical line terminal which sends and receives messages or data to/from optical network units (ONUs) connected thereto. A cyclic message monitor produces a trigger signal, for use in a PLOAM grant generator, at certain intervals in harmonization with upstream messages that a specific optical network unit regularly transmits. A downstream message monitor watches outgoing downstream messages to detect a certain message requesting an ONU to return a response, and it triggers the PLOAM grant generator if such a message is detected. An upstream message monitor detects an upstream message whose identification code indicates that the sending ONU has no information to return. If such an upstream message is found, it limits the issuance of PLOAM grants to that optical network unit. The PLOAM grant generator produces PLOAM grants which permit ONUs to transmit their messages, and sends them out through a PLOAM cell transmitter.

  • Patent number: 6661804
Abstract: An arbitration mechanism provides quality of service guarantees for time-sensitive signals sharing a local area computer network with non-time-sensitive traffic. Device adapters are placed at all access points to an Ethernet network. The device adapters limit admission rates and control the timing of all packets entering the network. By doing so, collisions are eliminated for time-sensitive traffic, thereby guaranteeing timely delivery. A common time reference is established for the device adapters. The time reference includes a frame with a plurality of phases. Each of the phases is assigned to a device adapter. Each device adapter is allowed to transmit packets of data onto the network only during the phase assigned thereto. The length of the phases may be modified in accordance with the number of packets to be transmitted by a particular device adapter. A master device adapter may be appointed to synchronize each of the device adapters.

Abstract: An apparatus can be used as a hub station in a communication bus system that contains a host station connected to a host connector of the apparatus and a slave station connected to a slave connector of the appara tus. In the communication bus system operates according to a communication protocol wherein the hub station generates a presence signal on the host connector upon incorporation of the hub station into the system via the host connector. The presence signal is dependent on whether the hub station detects a slave device connected to the slave connector. The apparatus comprises an alternative host port and a hub circuit operatively connected to the host connector, the slave connector, and the alternative host port.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a synchronous I/O interface buss system. The system includes a master-buss controller that generates a system timing signal. The master-buss controller transmits a time-division multiplexed (TDM) slave output data signal and receives a time-division multiplexed (TDM) slave input data signal. The TDM slave output data signal and the TDM slave input data signal are synchronous relative to the system timing signal. A buss is coupled to the master-buss controller. The buss propagates the system timing signal, the TDM slave output data signal, and the TDM slave input data signal. At least one slave device is coupled to the buss. The at least one slave device is in synchronicity with the system timing signal. The at least one slave device demultiplexed slave device output data in device-ready format from the TDM slave output data signal during a predetermined output data signal time slot.

Abstract: A 1000BASE-T transceiver linked to an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) through a transformer currently transmits and receives outgoing and incoming signals via the UTP. The transceiver employs an energy efficient class B or AB line driver supplying asymmetric output currents to the transformer's primary winding terminals so that the transformer's secondary winding induces the outgoing signal on the UTP. Resistors couple the transformer's primary winding terminals to inputs of separate amplifiers producing a differential output signal mimicking the incoming 1000BASE-T signal. Since both the incoming and outgoing signals contribute to voltages appearing at the transformer's primary winding terminals, echo cancellation circuits provide additional compensating signals to the amplifier inputs for canceling echo in each amplifier input due to the resistive and reactive loading on each driver output current and arising from the asymmetric nature of the class B or AB driver's output currents.
