  • Patent number: 8396056
Abstract: The present invention describes how a trusted network routing authority, such as a VoIP inter-exchange carrier or clearinghouse can provide routing and secure access control across multiple network domains with a single routing and admission request. This technology can improve network efficiency and quality of service when an Internet Protocol (IP) communication transaction, such as a Voice over IP (VoIP), must be routed across multiple devices or administrative domains. This technology defines the technique of performing multiple route look-ups at the source of the call path to determine all possible routes across intermediate domains to the final destination. The VoIP inter-exchange carrier or clearinghouse then provides routing and access permission tokens for the entire call path to the call source.

The RRBSS permits low-latency, reduced contention, distributed scheduling useful in any ad hoc network, but particularly suitable for high data rates. Distributed scheduled access is provided for flows through a round-robin token passing service discipline. STAs follow a round-robin order, or list, and are able to communicate with round-robin transmit opportunities during a defined period. Each STA in the list transmits a respective token to transfer access to the shared medium to the next STA in the RR List. The sequence is terminated with an end token. STAs maintain station identifiers and list updates are maintained with a sequence identifier. Techniques are disclosed to add and remove STAs to the sequence; establish connectivity lists (receive and forward), and maintain other sequence parameters such as bandwidth management and TXOP duration. • Patent number: 8019883
Abstract: A wireless peripheral mode is provided by a host system that communicates to a WiFi infrastructure and, utilizing the same WiFi RF subsystem, also communicates to peripherals. The host system may employ additional RF channels for communicating with high bandwidth peripherals, such as display devices, where high levels of QoS may be managed locally. The host system may be a conventional desktop computer system, a notebook computer system, a multi-media access point, a cell phone, a game machine, a portable game machine, a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), a smart phone or any other type of device that benefits from accessing both a WiFi infrastructure and local peripherals.

  • Patent number: 7995605
Abstract: The present invention describes a communications system having a first link partner and a second link partner that are connected by a communications link having at least four pairs of conductors. According to IEEE Standard 802.3 (e.g. Ethernet) for 1000Base-T, a data link is maintained (in a period absent data transmission) by sending idle signals over four pairs of conductors of the cable to maintain a logical connection. This idle signal scheme is replaced with an alternate idle signaling scheme that uses only two pairs of conductors to maintain a logical connection and therefore can operate with using lower power. The other two pairs of conductors of the four pairs of conductors are unused to maintain a logical connection absent data transfer, and therefore can be used to implement a Suspend Mode of operation. During Suspend Mode, the physical layer of each link partner powers down unnecessary circuitry so as to operate in a low power environment.

  • Patent number: 7995673
Abstract: A system and method (130, 135 and 140) for a user of a multichannel broadcasting service listening to a particular channel provides alerts about the content currently available on other channels which are of interest to the user. Auxiliary data streams of interest can be presented for display in conjunction with the audio transmission of a related or unrelated channel. The system and method include storing criteria associated with programming or auxiliary content of interest to a user and searching for unique identifiers within the broadcast signal signifying the availability of content which meets the criteria. Content of interest can be, for example, traffic information (105, 110, 120, 111 and 125), sports games available on other channels, sports scores, stock or other trading instruments prices, news headlines or travel information.

  • Patent number: 7990998
Abstract: A user terminal establishes a session with a first access point (AP0) and obtains a token associated with modem configuration information used for radio communication. The user terminal thereafter establishes a connection with a second access point (AP1) by sending the token. AP1 receives the token, obtains the modem configuration information associated with the token, and initializes an air interface protocol stack with the modem configuration information to obtain a modem-specific protocol stack for the user terminal. AP1 sends a response indicating successful connection setup. The user terminal and AP1 thereafter communicate in accordance with the modem-specific protocol stack. AP1 may attempt to fetch the session for the user terminal from AP0. If this is successful, then AP1 updates the protocol stack with the session information to obtain a complete protocol stack for the user terminal. The user terminal and AP1 thereafter communicate with the complete protocol stack.

Abstract: A system for transmitting and receiving image and audio data that is information on any of image and audio has a transmission apparatus and a reception apparatus. The transmission apparatus transmits the image and audio data using a multi-channel communication system and includes a first protocol conversion device. The reception apparatus receives the image and audio data using the multi-channel communication system and includes a second protocol conversion device. The transmission apparatus performs data conversion processing on the image and audio data by the first protocol conversion device using a protocol to produce parallel image and audio data, and transmits it to the reception apparatus using the multi-channel communication system. The reception apparatus receives the parallel data to perform data conversion processing on the parallel data using the protocol by the second protocol conversion device to return to the image and audio data.

Abstract: In a system for sharing hybrid resources in an independent network, each one of a plurality of stations preferably employs a sharing authority transferring protocol that allows the network control function to be moved from station to station depending on the network traffic. Although a distributed coordination method is normally used in the network, when an individual station determines that a real-time data stream is intended for the station, an apparatus having a method and data format for the use thereof allows control to be transferred to the targeted station. This allows the targeted station to control the sharing of the wireless hybrid resources using a centralized control method in a direct mode for the duration of the real-time service transmission, thereby optimizing network efficiency. As a result of using the distributed control authority of the present invention, a station may be freely subscribe/withdraw to/from the network.
