In accordance with an example embodiment, time-based communications are effected for a plurality of different network devices, at least two of which are connected to a common wired network link, with each network device being assigned to communicate during different time slots within a communication cycle. Each communication received on the common wired network link is assessed as being error-indicative or not error-indicative. In response to a received communication on the common wired network link being assessed as being error-indicative, the common wired network link is operated to corrupt data received on the branch, such as by driving the branch during a time slot in which the error-indicative communication is received, therein ensuring that other network devices disregard the data received during that time slot.

During a scheduled sample, the main-powered communication device transmits a control packet to be received by the battery-operated communication device, the control packet containing timing information and transmitted to account for worst-case clock drift error between the two devices. The battery-operated communication device responds to the control packet with a link-layer acknowledgment containing timing information from the battery-operated communication device. Abstract: Systems (100)/methods (1000) for allocating performance of data service tasks (DST-1, . . . , DST-30) of a defined duration or data volume among time frames (2021-1, 2021-2, . . . , 2021-N, . . . , 20217-1, 20217-2, . . . , 20217-N) defined in separate communication channels (2001, . . . , 20017). Each time frame has a predetermined duration and number of time chips (3021-1, 3021-2, . . . , 3021-26624). The methods involve allocating portions of the time frames to synchronous type data service tasks (STDSTs). STDSTs (DTS-1, . . . , DST-14, DST-16, . . . , DST-18, DST-20, . . . , DST-30) must be communicated in consecutive time chips of a single channel. The methods also involve allocating residual channel space portions of the time frames to asynchronous type data service tasks (ATDSTs). ATDSTs (DST-15, DST-19) do not require data to be communicated in consecutive time chips of a single channel.

Abstract: Various embodiments are presented of a time sharing electronic communication system, including a central unit, a crosstalk channel, and communication units such as transceivers and remote terminals. Also presented are various methods for configuring and operating the elements of such a system to enhance communication between communication units within the system. In some embodiments, locally optimal configurations are pre-computed, stored in memory, and processed into time sharing information which is communicated to communication units. The time sharing information allows the communication units to transmit at times and power levels in such a manner as to enhance the communication within the system. In some embodiments, locally optimal configurations are computed, stored, and processing, substantially dynamically, allowing substantially real time adjustment of transmission times and power levels to enhance the communication within the system.
