Abstract: A system relays a call from a calling party to a called party and, upon termination of the call by the calling party, a post-call announcement is played to the called party. Attributes of either the calling party, the called party, or both are passed to a database. The database performs a look-up query based on the call attribute information. An announcement indication is transmitted from the database to an announcement frame indicating which post-call announcement, if any, is to be played to the called party. The announcement frame plays the particular post-call announcement, if any, to the called party when the calling party has disconnected from the call.

Abstract: A method of operating a telephony system includes connecting a call from a caller to a call processing entity and receiving voice information from the caller during a time period associated with the call. The voice information is processed to provide one or more elements of waveform characteristics associated with the voice information using a first computer process and the one or more elements associated with the voice information are associated to one or more categories of human entities using a second computer process. The one or more categories of the human entities are identified to predict a gender of the caller using a third computer process and one or more advertisements associated with the identified one or more categories are determined.

Abstract: In embodiments, the present invention is directed to methods of handling calls received from customers. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a call from a customer who called a promotional telephone number. The phone call is connected to an IVR system. The IVR system maintains a set of rules for handling calls. The method further includes creating a call detail record, which includes a unique identifier, a source telephone number, and the promotional telephone number. A customized greeting is then played to the customer based on the promotional telephone number the customer dialed. Based on the rules for handling calls, the call is redirected from the IVR system to an agent along with transmitting and displaying the call detail record to the agent.

Abstract: An apparatus and methods are disclosed that enable a caller to specify one or both of (i) the content of a ringback signal that is generated when placing a call, and (ii) one or more properties of the ringback signal. In the first illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a “far” data-processing system that is closer to the called terminal than to the calling terminal (e.g., a terminating switch, an edge switch that is close to the terminating switch, etc.) generates a ringback signal based on preferences or rules of the caller that are stored in a database. In the second illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a “near” data-processing system that is closer to the calling terminal than to the called terminal (e.g., an originating switch, an edge switch that is close to the originating switch, etc.) generates a ringback signal based on caller rules and preferences.

In response to determining that the calling subscriber subscribes to the PAPL service, an advertisement is presented to the calling subscriber via the subscriber's telephone, the call is connected to the called subscriber, and a reduced charge is effected for the call based on the PAPL service.

Each ad hoc node also is configured for selectively attaching to any available ad hoc node based on a determined absence of any available ad hoc node advertising the identified aggregation group of the ad hoc node, or an aggregation group containing the identified aggregation group. Hence, a root node of an aggregation group can filter group-specific routing information from packets destined toward a network clusterhead, resulting in a scalable routing protocol that is not adversely affected by added nodes.

Abstract: A monetary account, such as a prepaid account or credit account, that is used as payment for purchases is divided into categories of purchased items. When a purchase is attempted, a request to apply the monetary account specifies the category of the item being purchased. Rules associated with each of the categories of the account are applied in response to the request to determine whether to approve or deny the purchase. Rules may vary from one category to the next. As one example, a rule may include a remaining monetary value of the category where a determination is made whether the cost of the item being purchased is no more than the remaining monetary value. As another example, a rule may include whether a time of the purchase matches an allowable time for the category of the item being purchased. Other examples include rules that allow for borrowing from one category for purchases from another, for specific allocations, and for event triggers to generate alarms.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically dynamically creating an extension number associated to an assigned telephone number to enable precise, efficient and scalable tracking of the origin of a telephone call from a prospect to an advertiser within a voice communication-based performance advertising multi-advertisement, multi-publisher framework. The present invention remedies the shortcomings of the prior art by generating the extension number dynamically and automatically based on an algorithm that defines an advertiser account, individual advertisement and the publisher, thereby allowing a most efficient and scalable method for tracking calls in such a framework. This current invention can be utilized to bring the number of necessary assigned telephone numbers for a system containing 100 advertisers with 99 advertisements each, published by 99 different publishers from the 980,100 required in the old system to just 100 telephone numbers. And this efficiency is exponentially realized.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for specifying and obtaining services through audio commands, resulting in a live conversation between a user and a selected service provider using an audio-transmission medium (the telephone). A service seeker locates a service provider by entering a keypad code corresponding to a field of service or by speaking the name of a profession, which is recognized by the system. The seeker can then specify, via voice or keypad entry, a price range, quality rating, language, and keyword descriptors of the service provider, such as a service provider code number. In response, the system offers currently available service providers. Once an available service provider is selected, the system connects the service seeker with the service provider for a live conversation. The system bills the seeker for the time spent conversing with the service provider and compensates the service provider accordingly.

Abstract: Mobile routers establish a tree-based network topology in an ad hoc mobile network, the tree-based network topology having a single clusterhead and attached mobile routers. Each attached mobile router has a default egress interface configured for sending messages toward the clusterhead, and ingress interfaces configured for receiving messages from attached network nodes that are away from the clusterhead. A neighbor advertisement message received from an ingress interface away from a clusterhead is used by the attached mobile router to identify specified network prefixes that are reachable via the source of the neighbor advertisement message. The attached mobile router outputs on its default upstream interface a second neighbor advertisement message that specifies the network prefix used by the attached mobile router, and the specified network prefixes from the neighbor advertisement message received on the ingress interface. Hence, connectivity is established with minimal routing overhead.

Once the subscriber dials a telephone number to call another party, the switch delays normal call processing and begins playing the advertisement to the subscriber. If the subscriber wishes to be connected to the advertiser, she may provide a predetermined input to the switch. The switch, upon receiving the predetermined input, retrieves routing information, including the telephone number associated with the advertiser, from a network component and connects the subscriber with the advertiser.

Abstract: Mobile routers in a tree-based network topology with a single clusterhead in an ad hoc network establish connectivity based on each attached mobile router sending a neighbor advertisement message to an attachment mobile router via a corresponding egress interface. Any neighbor advertisement message received by a mobile router is used to identify specified network prefixes that are reachable via the source of the neighbor advertisement message. Each attached mobile router outputs to its attachment router another neighbor advertisement message that specifies the network prefix used by the mobile router, and the specified network prefixes from its attached mobile routers. The mobile router also identifies peer mobile routers having the same depth, and selectively shares limited routing information with the peer routers, enabling the mobile router to bypass the clusterhead and reach remote prefixes via the peer routers without burdening the tree.

Abstract: The present invention is drawn to a method and apparatus for taking advantage of the always-on nature of a broadband VoIP network connection to provide enhanced services triggered by the off-hook event, bypassing a dial tone. In use, a caller triggers a network based greeting upon the off-hook event of picking up the phone. The greeting can be used for unique branding purposes by speaking a greeting to the caller. After the greeting, the caller can be immediately connected to an array of network-based services. A voice recognition system is employed to permit the caller to use voice dialing. A network interactive voice response unit (VRU) is used with the voice recognition system to allow the user to access services from a menu. The VRU can respond to an affirmative statement from the caller by using a table to lookup the phone number of requested services closest to the caller based on the caller's phone number (i.e., ANI).

In return, the inventors plan to collect advertising revenues from their clients to cover the expenses of producing the calling cards and the promotional messages and obtain profit. The promotional message will be short but mandatory during the first and/or each calling card usage. Once the promotional message is broadcasted, it is followed by normal usage for the remaining duration of the calling card.
