Call Traffic Recording Or Monitoring Patents (Class 379/133)
  • Patent number: 8145187
Abstract: A communications base station is installed at a selected new location and the base station, prior to going “online” monitors the wireless traffic from other base stations within interference range of the new base station's coverage area. The new base station also monitors the wireless traffic between mobile devices within its coverage area and these other base stations. Based upon these monitored conditions, as well as other known conditions, the new base station then determines the transmitting parameter configuration it should imply in order to achieve a desired optimization between capacity and coverage area. After the new base station is online, a central control can monitor the entire network to determine if any additional changes are necessary and if so the new transceiver, or any other transceiver, can be instructed to monitor itself with respect to interference and to take corrective action to improve overall network coverage and capacity.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for archiving a call terminating at a client device are provided. In an example, a command or packet associated with a protocol for setting up the call is intercepted. In response to the interception, the call is associated with a call ID. An information associated with the call is retrievably stored in an archive using the call ID. The information is at least partially determined via replicating at least one of a device input signal associated with an outbound call content and a device output signal associated with an inbound call content. In an example, a call capture agent resident on the client device is controlled by a call archive administration service, and performs the replication by forming respective loopbacks corresponding to the at least one of the device input signal and the device output signal. In an example, the respective loopbacks are virtual loopbacks.

  • Patent number: 8059799
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide methods, systems, and computer-readable media for achieving a higher call completion rate in a system experiencing a mass calling event. The present invention has several practical applications in the technical arts including optimizing use of network resources during a mass calling event. In various embodiments, a network's resources are efficiently utilized by way of sampling a network element's control processing unit utilization. Additionally, the various embodiments respond by selecting to negatively acknowledging callers in a mass calling event state in order to prevent system components from becoming overloaded. Overloaded network system components lead to such issues as dropped signaling packets, and higher percentages of call failures. Embodiments of the invention are directed to achieving optimal call completion in the case of a mass calling event.

  • Patent number: 8055259
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and computer-readable media for generating distance bands on a map to identify areas of outbound roaming on a wireless network are disclosed. A roaming-network event record listing roaming events for subscribers of a home network is received. A home-network event record listing network events on a home network is also received. The two records are correlated to identify roaming events and network events having matching caller identifiers and time stamps within a predetermined range. Location data of a network event is adopted as location data for a matching roaming event. A home-network wireless-communications antenna having a service area in which a concentration of roaming events have occurred is identified. The distance of the roaming events from the antenna is determined and distance bands corresponding to that distance are plotted on a map to aid in identifying locations at which outbound roaming has occurred.

Abstract: Systems for monitoring, storage, and analysis of information in signaling messages, communicated from originating networks to a destination network through one or more intermediate networks are described. Correlation and comparison between signaling messages of interest sent from an origination network to signaling messages received by the destination network allows for the detection of inconsistent information, e.g., information fields in a communicated message that have been altered, either intentionally or unintentionally, by an intermediate carrier. The introduction of an additional communications path over which notification messages are forwarded from signaling monitoring equipment in the origination network to signaling monitoring equipment in the destination network allows for a significant reduction in the memory storage requirements at the destination network and in the amount of processing required to match, compare, and evaluate signaling messages.

  • Patent number: 7907719
Abstract: A method of designing an interface system that allows users to map the representation of their task directly to the interface. There are three major phases to the Customer-Centric Approach to Interface Design (C-CAID). End-users' tasks are categorized to determine the frequency of reasons or tasks of why users interact with a particular system. These reasons and their relative frequencies are used to design interface options that emphasize the user's task categories. Finally, the customer-centric interface designs are evaluated and compared with existing system interfaces using usability tests with actual users performing the tasks. The results from usability tests are used to pinpoint the task-option combinations that do not work well and which should be revised. Benefits of this customer-centric design are improved systems performance and increased user satisfaction.

Abstract: A methodology for optimizing the cost associated with access charges incurred by network service providers when leasing communications facilities from a local service provider has been developed that incorporates physical reconfiguration of the access network topology as a cost-saving measure, where and when appropriate. The methodology identifies opportunities to reduce access charges by performing the following functions: (1) moving T1 facilities from one hub location to another; (2) moving T1 facilities from one T3 facility to another (at the same hub location) in order to disconnect unneeded T3 facilities; and (3) adding new T3 facilities in order to reduce overall access expenses and/or to provide new capacity for future growth, including adding potential new hub locations. The methodology is appropriate for use with various types of network facilities, T1 and T3 being considered as exemplary only.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for communication information recall in an enterprise network. An illustrative embodiment describes, in particular, a method for communication information recall following a communication attempt by an originating party using a first communication terminal, to a receiving party using a second communication terminal, after retrieval by recipient, at the first communication terminal accessing an entry in an outgoing call log originated an earlier call that has been terminated; the entry accessed corresponding to the second communication terminal, sending/transmitting an instruction message to the second terminal indicative of an instruction to, to one of match and delete an existing communication information entry; informing the recipient about the action by adding a new entry in the communication information log with updated details; sending an alert of success or failure of communication information recall to the first communication terminal.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring a communication network is described. In one example, call detail record data generated by network elements in the communication network is parsed to identify occurrence of a plurality of blocked calls over a time period. A plurality of consolidated call detail records for the plurality of blocked calls are respectively generated from the call detail record data. Each of the plurality of consolidated call detail records includes an originating telephone number. The originating telephone number of each of the plurality of consolidated call detail records is then processed to identify unique originating telephone numbers for the plurality of blocked calls.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a base station 10, a mobile station 11 and a radio network controller 50 which can reduce the load on the radio network controller 50 during multicast communication. The base station 10 supporting multicast communication comprises a response signal relay 10b configured to transfer response signals transmitted from a plurality of mobile stations 11, 12, 21, 41, 42 to a radio network controller 50. The response signals respond to a control signal for a multicast group. The response signal relay 10b transfers only a predetermined number of response signals to the radio network controller 50. Any following response signals are retained.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for creating a composite data source having a common data representation from disparate sources of voice data. Data transmission links are established to heterogeneous messaging data sources, requests for voice data is sent using data access protocols, the voice data is received, and a set of voice data transformation rules are selectively applied to the voice data to transform the data into a common data representation. The common data representation can also be used as a source for reporting and graphical displays to monitor the operational aspects of the sources of voice data.

  • Patent number: 7680928
Abstract: An automatically configurable network monitoring system includes a network monitoring communications protocol used for communications between a network monitoring client executing on a routing node (100) being monitored and a network monitoring server executing on a network monitoring processor (106). According to the network monitoring communications protocol, the network monitoring client broadcasts a network monitoring service request message to the network monitoring servers. The service request message identifies a signaling link for which network monitoring service is being requested. The network monitoring servers provisioned to the requested provide network monitoring service respond affirmatively and thereby automatically grant network monitoring service. The network monitoring system may be completely probeless or, alternatively, used in conjunction with probe-based network monitoring devices.
