Abstract: Approaches described herein allow an appliance to receive a message from a client device when the client device is attempting to connect to a service other than the appliance. For instance, a client device might connect to a service on a private network, however if the client device is not on the private network, it may encounter an appliance such as a gateway. The appliance is configured to return a message to a client device indicating that it is an appliance, and the client device returns a certificate to the appliance that allows the client to indicate a first purpose of a connection and a second purpose of the connection. In approaches described herein, the second purpose is used by the appliance to perform an action related to providing the service with a certificate that allows for the first purpose, which can include information to create a secure connection between the service and the client device.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention provide methods, systems, and computer-program products for handling a call reaching a party's voicemail. A predictive model is used to generate a first probability of an outcome occurring as a result of leaving a voicemail message and a second probability of the outcome occurring as a result of sending a text message. If the first probability is greater, an IVR uses DTMF tone(s) to bypass a greeting on the voicemail so that a message can be recorded with minimal time. If the second probability is greater, the call is ended and an email is sent to the party's service provider using an email address comprising a mobile number for the party and a domain portion specific to the provider. As a result, the provider delivers a text message to the party with the body of the message including the content of the email.

Abstract: A method of voice call diversion includes detecting an incoming voice call communication from a calling device, identifying an alternate communication option, providing the alternate communication option to the calling device, detecting a selection of the alternate communication option from the calling device, and diverting the incoming voice call communication so as to utilize the selected alternate communication option.

Abstract: A method and system of tracking and reporting locations of entity employees, the method for use with at least a first interface device including a display screen, the method comprising the steps of, providing a processor programmed to perform the steps of, storing schedules of entity employees where the schedules indicate scheduled locations of employees during time slots, receiving an indication from a first employee indicating at least a first future time slot, identifying locations of the entity employees during the future time slot, using the schedules of entity employees to generate a location representation indicating the locations of at least a subset of the entity employees during the at least a first future time slot and presenting the location representation via the first interface device.

Abstract: Click-to-callback provides an icon or link on a webpage that a user can select or click on. When the icon or link is clicked or otherwise selected, the user is provided with a list of his phone numbers to choose from, or a blank field to enter an alternate number, for an immediate return call from a representative of the entity (e.g., the company) associated with the webpage. When this request is submitted, the representative desirably calls the user back immediately (e.g., within about 10 seconds) to provide assistance. Thus, the user remains on the website, and gets the help he desires to continue on the website, which may, for example, lead to the user making an online purchase.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for building an intelligent automated assistant. Embodiments of the present invention rely on the concept of “active ontologies” (e.g., execution environments constructed in an ontology-like manner) to build and run applications for use by intelligent automated assistants. In one specific embodiment, a method for building an automated assistant includes interfacing a service-oriented architecture that includes a plurality of remote services to an active ontology, where the active ontology includes at least one active processing element that models a domain. At least one of the remote services is then registered for use in the domain.

Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods to manage electronic communications are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus, using at least a network-based portal based on Internet protocol, receives a message with a user identifier from a person's wireless device; receives a communication option from the person based on options provided to the person, with all the options using the user identifier, in view of the portal being based on the Internet protocol; permits the user to block the person from accessing the user; enables the message to be received by the user if the person is not blocked by the user; and determines user availability to receive the message. In the embodiment, the apparatus requires user contact information for the user to receive messages, with the user contact information not provided to the person, and with the user contact information being distinct from the user identifier.

Abstract: When making a payment with an electronic payment type, a user may provide additional verification of ownership through communications with the user's mobile computing device. For example, the user may swipe her bank card at a retailer's store. The retailer may authorize the bank card through an issuing party (“host”). The host may transmit a request to the user via a mobile application running on the mobile computing device, which may request the user to approve or decline the purchase request. In various embodiments, the host's request may require the user to enter personal and/or authorization information (e.g., a PIN, password, biometrics, etc.) via the mobile application to approve the request. In some aspects, the host may allow the user to split or allocate a payment amount across one or more electronic payment types available to the user from the host via the mobile application during the authorization process.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus include computer programs encoded on a computer-readable storage medium for dynamic contact information assignment. A pool of telephone numbers is assigned to a pool manager. The pool manager allocates subsets of the telephone numbers to a plurality of allocators that are each responsible for allocating telephone numbers to an associated group of content sponsors. An allocator can determine an allocation of a subset of the telephone numbers for distribution among the content sponsors associated with the allocator. Pools of telephone numbers can be created that are each associated with a respective content sponsor associated with the allocator. One or more telephone numbers can be reclaimed from a pool. A reclaimed telephone number can be assigned by the allocator into either other pools associated with the allocator or back to the pool manager for allocation to other allocators.

To this end, a request to generate a device notification is obtained from a user application. The FE server includes a processing unit which defines an FE time zone (FETZ) based on the FE server's geographical location and that defines a current date and time of the FETZ. The FE server includes a network interfacing unit which obtains from the CD through the network a subscriber default time zone (SDTZ), a subscriber service time zone (SSTZ), a service activation date (SAD) and a service activation time (SAT). The processing unit selects as service time zone (STZ) for executing the service the SSTZ, if a valid SSTZ exists, or the SDTZ, if a valid SSTZ does not exist, or the FETZ, if a valid SDTZ does not exist. Furthermore, the processing unit only executes the service after checking that the SAD and SAT of the STZ correspond to the current date and time of the FETZ.

Abstract: An apparatus for selectively allowing calls to a device, such as a fax machine, that may receive calls on a signal line. The apparatus is arranged to, upon detecting an incoming call, initiate a blocking period during which the incoming call is prevented from reaching the device, and to terminate the blocking period when a predetermined threshold, for example a number of rings or period of time, has elapsed, and upon termination of the blocking period to initiate said enabled time period. Hence, incoming calls are not prevented from reaching the device if their duration exceeds the predetermined threshold. The apparatus helps to reduce the number of unwanted calls being received since spam calls commonly emanate from automated sending devices with a ring duration that is typically less than that of legitimate callers.

Abstract: Control and status information between a mobile device and another device can be signaled over a voice channel using DTMF tones, e.g., a pre-defined sequence of DTMF tones can signal a desired message (more generally, a feature code). Tones sent are separated from each other by a time gap (Tgap timer). If a receiving device does not receive a sequence of DTMF tones that can be matched to stored definitions of feature codes, then the receiving device generates a negative ACK. Also, if the sending device does not receive either negative or positive ACK, then sending device resends all tones of the feature code after a retry delay (Tretry timer). Rather than having the Tretry timer start when tones for a feature code start to be transmitted, the Tretry timer is started after the Tgap timer expires for the last tone of a feature code. Thus, only one timer is running (either Tgap or Tretry), rather than having multiple timers running concurrently. Race conditions between the timers are avoided.

Abstract: A method of call control in which a first communications network, detecting calls directed to a destination in the first network; redirects at least some of the calls to a destination in a second network (e.g. on no answer from the destination in the first network). Abstract: There are services that can be invoked by the subscribers, or triggered by a network entity, and wherein this invocation or trigger may depend on date or time of the day, namely, time-dependent services. Regarding the execution of these time-dependent services, there might be two problems with the determination of the execution time. The first problem is caused by the nature of so called “Data Layered Architectures” where the service execution servers, referred to as “Front-Ends” and the database servers storing the subscriber data, referred to as “Common Directory” are geographically spread over different time zones. As a consequence, the “Front-End” executes the service according to its own time zone rather than at the time zone where the subscriber is currently located or at home. The second problem is cause by the subscriber when he is roaming in an area located in a different time zone than his home time zone.

The system may initially query the callees through a prerecorded voice messaging system to determine which callees are present, and then establish a telephone connection based on responses to the queries. Once a connection is established, the user and the members of the list are linked to a conference bridge.

Advantageously, therefore, in public call treatment mode, the owner of the private party phone need not police third party use of the phone and will not be billed for such third party use. The predicted wait time is based on a prior contribution of the resource to servicing one or more of the queues.
