Abstract: A system and method of generating at least two distinctive auditory alerts upon receiving a transmission or telephone call at a device is described. Data indicative of a first plurality of sounds corresponding to a user of a device configured to receive the transmission or telephone call is accessed, such as from a memory. The first plurality of sounds is played at the device so as to identify a received transmission or telephone call being directed to the user. A telephone number, subscriber name or identifier associated with a transmitting or calling party of the transmission or telephone call is accessed. Data indicative of a second plurality of sounds designating the transmitting or calling party based on the subscriber name, telephone number or identifier is retrieved, such as from a data structure, and the second plurality of sounds is played at the device so as to identify the transmitting or calling party.

Abstract: A phone system with a methodology for call parking is described. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a user of a communications endpoint device can use a user interface at the communications endpoint device to select persons to notify of a parked call. Upon successfully parking the call, the phone system notifies the selected persons in the manner specified in their account profiles. Such manner can include sending an e-mail to the selected person or sending a text message to the selected person. Advantageously, the manner for notifying the selected persons of the parked call is determined by the selected persons themselves through configuration of their account profiles thereby alleviating the user parking the call from having to determine the manner for notifying the selected persons.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention provide methods, systems, and computer program products for selecting a first telephone number associated with an account for a targeted party and dialing the first telephone number to place an outbound call to the party. Accordingly, in particular embodiments, the first telephone number may be dialed to place a subsequent call after a first predetermined period of time as a result of detecting a busy signal for the initial call. Likewise, in particular embodiments, the first telephone number may be dialed to place a subsequent call after a second predetermined period of time as a result of detecting an automated answering device for the initial call. Furthermore, in particular embodiments, a second telephone number associated with the account for the party may be selected and dialed to place a subsequent call as a result of detecting a no-answer condition for the initial call.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method, terminal and system for implementing a multimedia coloring ring back tone (MCRBT) service in IMS domain. This method comprises: after receiving a call from a caller, a core network setting up a connection with a MCRBT service system when the callee is called if determining that the callee subscribes the MCRBT service; said MCRBT service system triggering the MCRBT service, and sending an address of a MCRBT file set by said callee through said core network; and said caller downloading said MCRBT file from a media resource server of said MCRBT service system according to said address, and enjoying said MCRBT file from a calling terminal when a called terminal rings. The present invention can meet the requirement of the caller of enjoying the MCRBT file set by the callee when the caller calls the callee of IMS domain, and better services are provided.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and techniques by which a caller may specify a callee's telephone number and be connected directly to a carrier provided voice mail facility associated with the identified the telephone number, even though the callee's carrier may not be the same as the caller's carrier. In the disclosed technique, a telephony server places a “Send a call” request to a server which then sends a signaling call that busies out the channel associated with the callee. The telephony server places a second call (the actual voice message) upon confirmation that the signaling call has been initiated, forcing the second call to the carrier's voice mail facility associated with the callee, since the first signaling call busied the first channel. Prior to sending the signaling call, a database look up is performed to determine which carrier services the callee number. Once the carrier is determined, another memory look up is performed to determine the time delay associated with that carrier.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for announcing a calling party from a communication device. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a call processing system can have a controller for processing calls in a communication system. The controller can be programmed to detect an incoming call initiated by a third party communication device over a first voice channel, transmit to a communication device over a control channel a notification signal associated with the incoming call, detect a connection made by the communication device to a second voice channel, transmit to the communication device over the second voice channel audio signals that identify a calling party, and link the first and second voice channels upon detecting over the control channel a call acceptance action by the communication device. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: According to embodiments described in the specification, a method and apparatus for managing a call to a user associated with a destination communications device, the call initiated by a caller at an originating communications device, is described. An indication of the call is received, the indication of the call comprising data associated with the user. A state of the user is determined by processing the data associated with the user and consulting a record of the state of the user. The call is parked if the state of the user comprises a delayed answer state, the delayed answer state comprising the user being available to receive the call, but requiring additional time to retrieve the call using the destination communications device, and a notification of the call is triggered at the destination communications device by transmitting a signal to the address of the communications device.

Abstract: A remote call notification system for incoming calls to a wireline telecommunications device. The system includes a switch, a service control point, an intelligent server, and a monitoring module all in communication with each other. The remote call notification is transmitted to a remote communication device such as a PC, an interactive pager, and a mobile phone. The call notification includes a calling number, the name of a calling party, time and date identifiers, status identifiers that provides a real-time status of the incoming communication, a disposition identifier, and a priority identifier. A remote call notification method including detecting an incoming communication to a subscriber's wireline communication device, creating a remote call notification, assigning an access address associated with a remote communication device, and forwarding the remote call notification to the remote communication device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for timed ring suppression are disclosed. After a communications device receives an incoming call and the ringer is activated to produce an initial audible alert, the ringer of the communications device may be silenced for subsequent audible alerts until the calling party hangs up or until the call is further processed.

Abstract: A system and method are described for permitting a telephone user to customize the identification of a call setup process. The telephone user is permitted to create a karaoke style recording by causing an underlying musical track to be mixed with the voice of the user. The karaoke style recording is stored for later use as a ringback tone and/or ringtone, as desired, to identify the call setup process.

Abstract: A remote call notification system for incoming calls to a wireline telecommunications device. The system includes a switch, a service control point, an intelligent server, and a monitoring module all in communication with each other. The remote call notification is transmitted to a remote communication device such as a PC, an interactive pager, and a mobile phone. The call notification includes a calling number, the name of a calling party, time and date identifiers, status identifiers that provides a real-time status of the incoming communication, a disposition identifier, and a priority identifier. A remote call notification method including detecting an incoming communication to a subscriber's wireline communication device, creating a remote call notification, assigning an access address associated with a remote communication device, and forwarding the remote call notification to the remote communication device.

Abstract: A method for call answering in a distributed communications system having a plurality of communications devices, in which a subscriber can be registered on communications terminals associated with the communications devices in the distributed communications system. In this case, incoming calls are allocated to the communications terminals according to prescribable criteria. If a subscriber called by an incoming call is not available, an announcement function is performed which prompts activation of an announcement on a central communications device in the distributed communications system.

Abstract: According to the present invention, a voice storage device includes a port control unit for monitoring a service state of a port of a PBX extension circuit, and a private branch exchange is configured to transmit, upon receipt of an incoming call, an incoming signal including caller information and the number of a port receiving the incoming call to the voice storage device without bringing an outside line to an off-hook state. As the voice storage device receives the incoming signal, the port control unit detects the port, which is available. When the port is available, paging directed to an individual extension telephone is performed through the private branch exchange by use of this available port, and until the outside line goes off-hook, a caller keeps hearing a ringback tone with the ringing signal being sent from a telephone office to the caller.

Abstract: Telephone network service logic relating to calls over the telephone network to a customer terminal, uses both terminal functions and network functions. The terminal has a service logic script for execution at the terminal to control the terminal functions. To control the execution of this script remotely from the network, a script-control message is determined and sent over the telephone network to the terminal. This may use the GR30 message format, with an additional call qualifier specific to the terminal service logic script, and the type of control being requested, e.g., start execution or terminate the script. This enables the reliability of the interaction between the service logic at the network side, and the service logic script at the terminal to be improved. This enables announcement type services to be provided in which a loudspeaker on the terminal can be remotely controlled to make verbal announcements without requiring customer action to lift a receiver.

Abstract: A method for managing of a plurality of extension communication units in a cellular communication system by a directory and conference call decision process. A subscriber telephone number directory identifies those extension communication units which will receive the call. A conference call decision process allows the subscribers, rather than the system, to determine who will take the call. All subscribers have the same priority for answering the call and minimum resources are utilized to reach the correct extension communication unit.

Abstract: A called party is alerted to the presence of a voice call on the Internet (110) by a page that is automatically transmitted to the called party's pager (120) upon initiation of the call by a calling party from his terminal (101) running Internet voice communications software and equipped with a microphone (102) and speaker (103). The page is transmitted in response to a message sent by a service provider (115) on the Internet, which receives from the calling party's terminal on the Internet, information for identifying the called party's pager. The called party, upon receiving the page, connects to the called party on the Internet through his home terminal (105) that is running that same voice communications software and is also equipped with a microphone (106) and speaker (107), or through any such similarly equipped portable or fixed terminal (125) at any location from which the Internet can be accessed.
