  • Patent number: 7308477
Abstract: A unified messaging system is configured for encrypting messages. The calling party is prompted to encrypt the unified message, for example as part of an extended options menu. The unified messaging system encrypts the unified message based on an encryption key input by the user into an encrypted message, and generates an open-network destination header for identifying a destination location for the encrypted message according to an open-network protocol. The unified messaging system then outputs the open-network destination header and the encrypted message as an open-network encrypted message to an open-network message store. During retrieval of the message, the unified messaging system identifies the encrypted message and prompts the destination subscriber for a decryption key; the unified messaging system performs a decryption operation to recover a decrypted file, and outputs the decrypted file for playback to the user.

  • Patent number: 6956858
Abstract: A routing table circuit for a router has one or more input ports and output ports for message communication. In the routing table circuit, one or more routing table memories store a plurality of routing table arrays. The routing table arrays are arranged hierarchically in levels, and each routing table array is associated with a predetermined subset of prefixes. Each routing table array has entries. The entries include a block default route pointer field to store a block default route pointer, if any, and a routing field. The route engine may access any level of table array by using a next level route pointer stored in the routing field. Using the block default route and the routing field, the present invention further reduces the number of memory accesses and the update cost for route insertion and deletion by identifying and skipping elements that do not require route updating.

  • Patent number: 6201854
Abstract: A testing environment and a method for telephone number identification and/or verification. The testing environment and method of the present invention analyzes incoming analog signals of a telephone call being made to the tested line as the receiving party from the central office switch. These incoming analog signals preferably include ring signal, waiting call tone and voice signals. The incoming analog signals are analyzed and processed by the testing unit according to the present invention in order to identify and/or verify the telephone number. Thus, the testing environment and method of the present invention has the advantage of being able to analyze data received from the tested line as the receiving party, rather than requiring the tested telephone line to initiate the telephone call for testing purposes.

  • Patent number: 5793858
Abstract: The method of in-session activation of the present invention gives Telcos the ability to offer callers a menu of call completion services when the call encounters a busy or no-answer condition. It provides in-session activation capability from DTMF and dial-pulse sets enabling callers to activate the services without having to hang up. The method is intended for residential and business end-users with RES, business lines, or PBX lines.

  • Patent number: 5535269
Abstract: An additional direct inward dialing connection system includes a determining section, announcement machines, and a connection control section. When a direct inward dialing number from a caller is received via an office line or public telephone network, the determining section determines on the basis of the state of a called station terminal whether connection to the called station terminal can be established. When an output from the determining section indicates that connection to the called station terminal is not possible, one of the announcement machines notifies the caller of the reason for connection failure based on the state of the called station terminal. The machine also announces the number of a station terminal that may additionally dialed. When the number of the station terminal is received upon additional dialing performed by the caller, the connection control section connects a call from the caller to the station terminal corresponding to the received number.

  • Patent number: 5467395
Abstract: When there is an incoming call to a digital line and the digital line is to be connected to a digital terminal, a CPU connects the line and the terminal directly. When the digital line is to be connected to an analog individual line telephone or the like, the line and the terminal are connected via a level controller. The level controller shifts, to an appropriate level, the level of a voice signal represented by data received from the digital line, and the analog individual line telephone or the like connected to the extension receives the voice signal shifted to the appropriate level.

  • Patent number: 4744102
Abstract: An arrangement for improved two-line hunting in crossbar switching systems is disclosed where the two lines are located in the same line link frame vertical group and vertical file. When the marker determines that the primary line is busy the marker is caused to recycle and to reseize the number group and retranslate the directory number of the primary appearance. When the marker re-obtains the equipment location information for the primary line appearance, it directly modifies one element of the translation information, illustratively, the horizontal group number, to obtain the equipment location of the auxiliary line appearance. Since the marker directly modifies the translation information furnished by the number group it is not necessary to assign a separate directory number to the auxiliary line appearance. The direct modification of the equipment location is performed by providing a selectively operable chain path in the operating path of the horizontal group seizure relays.

  • Patent number: 4672662
Abstract: A switching system for a network having terminal control equipment units connected to a network termination unit, in which terminal control equipment units of the same kind are connected with an exchange through a subscriber's line which has assigned to it a single subscriber number and which has a plurality of communication channels. The system including storage units for each terminal control equipment unit of the subscriber's line for storing call status of incoming calls. When a first incoming call is received, the storage units of the terminal control equipment units set respective call status for the first incoming call to a ringing state. When a second incoming call is received before a response to the first incoming call is transmitted, the storage units also set the call status for the second incoming call to a ringing state.
