  • Patent number: 5035517
Abstract: A reclosable sack having a mouth from which contents may be discharged, including a primary non-reclosable stitched fastener across and closing the mouth. The stitched fastener includes a removable chain stitch and tear strip for facilitating manual opening of the primary fastener. The reclosable sack also includes a secondary reclosable fastener having a pair of interlocking profile strips that are attached at lower inner wall portions to the upper edge of the sack walls outboard of the stitched fastener. The secondary profile fastener is heat sealed at its ends and allows the sack to be reclosed once the primary non-reclosable fastener has been removed.

  • Patent number: 5035518
Abstract: This invention relates to a hinge type pressure sensitive resealable closure system for a container. The invention comprises an essentially flat strip of suitable material that is permanently adhered at one surface to the container, such adherence normally by a permanent pressure sensitive adhesive, but it could be heat sealed or otherwise attached to the container in a permanent manner. Another surface of the strip is adapted by virtue of a removable pressure sensitive adhesive to be repeatedly removably attached to the container with the respective permanent and removable attachments closing the container in a repeatable resealable mode. The strip can include printing thereon, and other suitable surfaces could include more removable pressure sensitive adhesive for various more sophisticated closure techniques.

  • Patent number: 4971454
Abstract: A bag structure includes a tubular bag body closed at one end and at its edges but open at the bag top. A top closure is affixed to the bag body covering the bag top. The bag body includes opposite wall panels which include a opposite outer layers and opposite inner layers, in which the outer layers are formed from a material that is more readily fusible than the material of the inner layers. The top closure includes opposite attachment flanges composed of a material that is more readily fusible to the outer layer than the inner layer. In one specific embodiment, a heated pressure bar is applied to heat seal the attachment flanges of the top closure to the outer layers of the bag body, while the inner layers of the wall panels remain intact and are not fused together. The inner layer material has a fusion temperature higher than the temperature at which the outer layers and top closure attachment flanges fuse.

  • Patent number: 4926526
Abstract: A reusable closure is described which comprises an elongate member molded from a plastics material having memory. The member is formed with a reduced thickness live hinge line extending along its length and leg portions defined on opposite sides of the live hinge line which can be urged towards and away from each other between locked and released positions. An upstanding ear extending along the length of each leg portion has a locking portion adapted to releasably snap into locking engagement with a corresponding locking portion on the other ear in the locked position. Rounded areas join each ear to its respective leg portion. A packaging and storage system using such closures is described, and methods of making such closures by extrusion or injection molding are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4824261
Abstract: A tamperproof, resealable bag of the type used to sell and store materials such as dog food, and the like. A unique sealing strip of the hook and loop fastening variety is employed therein. The bag is a flexible, frangible material such as paper and includes a flap extending from the rear edge over the front edge and down along the front piece. A strip of adhesive is disposed along the bottom edge of the flap to secure it to the front piece. A piece of cording is disposed between the flap and the front piece adjacent the top of the adhesive strip with an end extending outward therefrom for gripping. The two strips comprising the hook and loop fastening system are disposed between the flap and the front piece above and adjacent to the cording with one of the strips adhesively attached to the flap and the other to the front piece of the bag.

  • Patent number: 4796300
Abstract: A reclosable flexible container is provided as a pouch having a front wall with an inside and an outside surface, a rear wall with an inside and an outside surface and a pouch opening. A pair of exterior closure elements are provided for mechanical interlocking with a pair of interior closure elements. A wall of the pouch is interposed between each interior and exterior closure element. The interior closure elements further have a mechanical mechanism for selective interlocking with each other so as to seal the pouch or reopen it as desired. As a result a reclosable pouch is provided without the use of heat seals or adhesives.

  • Patent number: 4783177
Abstract: A seal for reusably sealing an opening formed by a slit in a sheet material portion of an envelope providing an airtight enclosure, which seal comprises an edge formation having first and second flexible members secured along respective first and second edge portions of the slit, a rigid member extending along the length of the slit and having a channel along its length for receiving and holding therein the first and second flexible members in contact with one another so as to close the opening, inflatable means operable upon inflation thereof to urge the first and second flexible members into sealing engagement with one another and to secure the first and second members within the channel of the rigid member, and retaining means for resisting withdrawal of the first and second flexible members from the channel whilst the inflatable means is deflated. The retaining means simplifies the alignment of the flexible members prior to inflation.
