  • Patent number: 9982683
Abstract: A device is disclosed including a shaft seal made with thermoplastic material formed as a hollow cylinder with an inside diameter and an outside diameter. The hollow cylinder may have multiple passages through the thermoplastic material between the inside diameter and the outside diameter. The multiple passages between the inside diameter and the outside diameter allow fluid under pressure to pass between the inside diameter and the outside diameter through the multiple passages.

  • Patent number: 5242228
Abstract: A spherical slide bearing having dust covers fixed by outer sealing collar portions interposed between a housing and a bearing or bearings. The interposed outer sealing collar portions of the dust covers are retained by flange portions of the housing and the bearing such that they are not forced out through narrow gaps therebetween through which bellows of the dust covers pass. Interference by the outer sealing collar portions with the degree of angular movement of a ball stud of the spherical slide bearing and damage to the dust covers is thus prevented. Tapered motion limiting surfaces incorporated into one of a ball stud, an inside bearing surface, and a ball stud and an inside bearing member surface provide an increased range of angular movement while protecting the dust cover from damage.

  • Patent number: 5040905
Abstract: An elastomeric combined seal and spring formed of uniformly resilient flowable rubber-like material and comprised of a one-piece annular body of uniform cross-sectional configuration throughout, which is of generally right angled polygonal shape and having a pair of opposed concave working surfaces spaced a distance only 60%-70% of its maximum radial dimension, measured at its corners, and its convex corners having a convexity of only 14%-16% of said maximum radial dimensions, the concavity of said surfaces being 17%-30% of said maximum radial dimensions, thereby providing an elastic seal which will function as a forgiving spring in support of a self-adjusting, self-lubricating split-ring annular bearing and thereby perfect a lasting seal against an annular surface while the latter is moving relative thereto at high speeds for prolonged periods.

  • Patent number: 4878766
Abstract: A high-speed self-lubricating bearing-seal assembly comprised of an annular bearing-seal composed of readily moldable, self-lubricating, plastic material having a pressure velocity value at least equal to 1800 at 100 feet per minute surface speed, and an elastic combined spring and seal member biasing the bearing-seal. The elastic member is located behind the bearing-seal and is formed of a readily flowable rubber-like material, consisting of a combined spring and seal which gently urges the bearing-seal against a sealing surface. The elastic member is generally right-angled polygonal in cross-sectional shape and has concaved sides and convex corners, its minimum radial dimensions between the corners being 60-70% of its maximum radial dimensions. A salient feature of the assembly is that it is a dry bearing-seal, in that no lubrication is required other than that inherent in the bearing-seal member, yet it outlasts other lubricated bearings by a wide margin.

  • Patent number: 4809960
Abstract: A bushing assembly for use in a suspension of an automotive vehicle. The bushing assembly is comprised of inner and outer cylinder members which are coaxial and spaced from each other. An elastic member and a rigid sleeve member are disposed between the inner and outer cylinder members. A sliding member is disposed between the inner cylinder member and the rigid sleeve member in order to reduce torsion spring effect of the elastic member. The sliding member is prevented from its axial displacement upon contacting with a radially outwardly extending retainer section formed in the inner cylinder member. Additionally, a generally cap-shaped seal rubber is provided to accomplish seal between the end section of the rigid sleeve member and the end section of the inner cylinder member.

  • Patent number: 4750847
Abstract: A bearing assembly designed to preclude the escape of lubrication through bushings within which elongated shafts are rotated at high speeds. The bearing assembly is comprised of a bearing member of split-ring form which is made of a readily moldable self-lubricating material having a pressure velocity value at least equal to 1800 at 100 feet per minute surface speed, and is L-shaped in cross-sectional configuration. It includes an elastomeric sealing ring mounted in supporting relation to the sealing portion of the L-shaped bearing member which is compressed therewith within a groove provided for that purpose at the outer end of the bushing. The sealing ring maintains the bearing member in close-fitting, sealing relation to the sealing surface surrounding the shaft and is insulated by the bearing member from the sealing surface having rapid relative movement and from associated parts to thereby obviate the normally attendant destructive effects of high speed rotation upon such a ring.

  • Patent number: 4610319
Abstract: A hyrodynamic lubricant sealing element for devices such as rotary cone rock bits, shaft seals and the like which is maintained under sufficient mechanical compression to effect a seal between relatively movable structures. The sealing element defines a sealing surface establishing a seal interface with a relatively movable circular sealing surface and forms a lubricant interface and a contaminant interface at opposite sides thereof. The lubricant interface is of such configuration as to induce a hydrodynamic lubricant wedging activity causing migration of lubricant film in the seal interface from the lubricant interface to the contaminant interface for flushing away any contaminant and for lubrication between the sealing element and sealing surface.

  • Patent number: 4435096
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for sealing a stationary member to a rotatable member wherein a neck of the rotatable member is coaxially received in a sleeve secured for rotation therewith and the sleeve is journaled for rotation in the stationary member. An extension ring is annularly secured to one end of the sleeve with a normally flat annular thrower seal of elastomeric material annularly engaged between this extension ring and the one end of the sleeve to provide a seal therebetween with inner and outer annular peripheral portions of the thrower seal radially protruding.
