Band Or Chain Patents (Class 384/405)
  • Patent number: 8408806
Abstract: An auxiliary bearing system having a sleeve through which a shaft extends. A gap may be defined between the sleeve and the shaft when a primary bearing system supports the shaft, and the sleeve may engage and rotate with the shaft when the primary bearing system does not support the shaft. An oil ring may extend circumferentially around the sleeve and rotate in response to the rotating sleeve when the sleeve engages and rotates with the shaft. The rotating oil ring may distribute lubricant within the auxiliary bearing system.

  • Patent number: 8242651
Abstract: A lubrication system for an electrodynamic machine including therein an internal oil sump and at least one oil ring hydrodynamic bearing, wherein the oil ring is in fluid communication with oil, in the sump and replenishes oil in the bearing. The lubrication system includes an electrically powered oil sump pump that is oriented within the sump. An of intake is coupled to the pump and is in fluid communication with oil in the internal sump. An oil discharge line is coupled to the pump discharge. The distal end of the discharge line is oriented proximal the motor bearing, so that oil discharged therefrom replenishes oil in the bearing and shaft journal interface. The lubrication system oil discharge parameters are independent, of the motor speed, load or physical orientation, and may be varied by a controller coupled to the oil sump pump.

  • Patent number: 5692841
Abstract: An improved sleeve bearing and associated lubrication system for the rotor shaft of a steam turbine. The bearing is lined with a metallic-polymeric composite, and is fixedly supported within a housing defining a reservoir containing a supply of liquid lubricant. The lubrication system includes a ring loosely surrounding the rotor shaft at a location spaced axially from the bearing. A lower portion of the ring is partially submerged in the lubricant. The ring is rotatably driven in response to rotation of the rotor shaft, with lubricant picked up on the ring being centrifugally discharged radially outwardly onto the surrounding housing walls. A system of communicating troughs, scuppers and passageways receives lubricant running off the housing walls for delivery under gravity to the bearing. Return passageways direct lubricant exiting from the bearing past water cooled chambers, over a weir and back to the reservoir.
