Abstract: To provide a playback device capable of requesting for a content generated in a format compatible with its processing capability and playing back the content, with no need of user input of a user ID or the like. A playback device for playing back contents reads, from an external recording medium, a playback right of a content to play back one or more contents that each have been generated based on a content and in a format compatible with a processing capability different for each playback device, and transmits the playback right and capability information indicating a processing capability of the playback device to a server device. The playback device acquires, from the server device, one of the one or more contents corresponding to the playback right in a format compatible with its processing capability indicated by the capability information, and plays back the acquired content.

Abstract: When a recording programming time is reached, a recording device of the present invention determines whether or not an automatic conversion setting is previously made on an item of content to be recorded. If the automatic conversion setting is made, a recording processing portion (11a) records, in a DR mode, the content programmed to be recorded. Then, the format conversion portion (11b) is instructed to perform format conversion according to the number of times and a format specified in the automatic conversion setting. The format conversion portion receiving this instruction performs the format conversion according to the number of times and the format specified in the automatic conversion setting, and records post-conversion content in a specified record destination.

  • Patent number: 8639092
Abstract: An apparatus for applying an anti-copy protection signal for use with switchable head recorders, such as Video Hi-Fi recorders, is described. A high frequency pulsed signal is added to an original signal. The pulses interfere with the compensator circuitry such that the switching of the record head cannot adequately be masked on recording of a signal. On playback, the switching of the recording heads can subsequently be heard. In Video Hi-Fi recorders, the effect of the high frequency signals also interferes with the compressor-expander circuits to worsen the sound of the head switching.

Abstract: In some embodiments, privacy protection may be achieved for video streams that are recorded on a substantially ongoing basis, for example for gesture recognition purposes. The address of recorded groups of pixels making up the video stream may be shuffled in memory. That is, instead of changing the data, successive pixels are not written successively into the memory but instead the data may be shuffled so that whatever is in memory is unrecognizable.

Abstract: Provided is a content playback apparatus that generates a GUI corresponding to various pieces of restriction information to restrict playback of a content when displaying the GUI for causing a user to select a content to be played back, and that can respond to a new piece of restriction information. The content playback apparatus generates content lists for the various pieces of restriction, and generates a GUI which can display each content list for each piece of restriction information by switching. When a content to which the new piece of restriction information has been attached is added, setting information for the new piece of restriction information is obtained from a content distribution server and the like by referring to an ID attached to the content, or an ID of the restriction information having been attached to the content, and a content list for the newly obtained restriction information is generated and displayed.
