Patent number: 6823532Abstract: A malodor control system for a toilet comprises a modified toilet seat which is a hollow construction. The seat may be mounted on supports for pivotal movement between an up position and down position in which its opening is registered with the opening of an toilet bowl for receiving products of human waste. As in conventional toilets, portions of a person sitting on the seat define a chamber, in combination with the seat and the bowl. A pair of water spray nozzles are disposed within the hollow seat and directed rearwardly toward the pivotal mounting for the seat. A water supply system includes a flexible tube connection between a fixed source of pressurized water and a bracket for pivotally mounting the seat. Flow of water to the spray nozzles is controlled by a valve on the rear of the seat. The water spray induces flow of fouled air from the user defined chamber into the hollow seat where offensive odors are removed by the water spray.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2003Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Inventor: Donald C. Patent number: 5539937Abstract: In a device for eliminating odors from a toilet bowl, a seat and lid appurtenance houses an internal air passage leading from the toilet bowl to the ambient atmosphere. A central lid extension (42 and 64) functions as a backrest and a housing for a motorized fan. A battery housed within the seat energizes the fan which draws foul air from the bowl through a filter for deodorization. Lid vertical instability is overcome through the combination of lid coupling valve (30) and pintles (28) which provides independent and separate seat and lid hinging systems.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1993Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Inventor: Russell E. Patent number: 5454122Abstract: A toilet ventilation system which ventilates the air within the bowl of a water closet, deodorizes it, adds air freshener and returns it to the toilet bowl. The system may also serves as a room air freshener and/or a comfort heater for warming the air within the toilet bowl. The system may be equipped to run on AC, DC, or both. The system has four interconnecting modules: a) a ventilator module located beneath the toilet seat, b) a central module which contains the ductwork to connect all of the other modules and the control panel for operating all of the functions of the system, c) a main blower module which contains the centrifugal fan which recirculates the air and filters which deodorize and add fragrance to the air, and d) a heater module which contains an air heater and a centrifugal fan for warming the air beneath the toilet seat.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1994Date of Patent: October 3, 1995Inventor: Donald J. Bergeron

Patent number: 5369812Abstract: A toilet ventilation apparatus (40) for extracting air (13) proximate a toilet assembly (10). The toilet ventilation apparatus (40) comprises an air intake mechanism (42) positioned for use proximate a rim (30) of a toilet bowl (12) for intaking air proximate an opening (20) into the toilet bowl (12) of the toilet assembly (10). An air extraction fan (72) is coupled to the air intake mechanism (42) for extracting air (13). A fluid removal mechanism (46) integrally coupled to the air intake mechanism (42) substantially removes trapped fluid (15) undesirably collected by the intake mechanism (42) during air extraction. The fluid removal mechanism (46) comprises a plurality of fluid collection troughs (66) communicably coupled to a plurality of intake apertures (56) situated about the intake mechanism (42). An actuating mechanism (100) is operably coupled to the air extracting fan (72) for automatically controlling the operation of the ventilation apparatus (40).Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1993Date of Patent: December 6, 1994Inventor: Ronald W. Patent number: 5355536Abstract: A bathroom exhaust system includes a ventilated toilet seat assembly, one or more exhaust lines connected to the ventilated toilet seat through a mounting block attached to the toilet bowl behind the toilet seat and an exhaust fan located in or adjacent to the ceiling of the bathroom. The exhaust fan is vented to the outside atmosphere and is controlled by an electrical switch mounted on the wall of the bathroom. The ventilated toilet seat assembly includes a toilet seat that has a hollow interior and is provided with a plurality of vent apertures permitting communication with the interior of the toilet bowl. An exhaust line is provided at the rear of the toilet seat and cooperates with an exhaust passageway in a mounting block attached to the top of the toilet bowl just in front of the water tank and behind the toilet seat. The mounting block also includes the hinges for pivoting the toilet seat.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1992Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Inventor: Anthony Prisco

Patent number: 5355537Abstract: An environmentally controlled portable toilet designed to neutralize and confine contaminating agents such as bacteria, odors, vapors and other airborne particles inside the bowl by generating and maintaining a cyclone-type air circulation inside the bowl-structure. A circular shaped bowl-structure (170) with a circular air-trapping cavity created inside the bowl-structure (170) by a seat-skirt (188), confines the contaminating agents during toilet use and improves the efficiency of the air circulation. A removable air-cooling tray 134, and sanitizer and odor conditioner cartridges (131) are employed to cool the air moving inside the air-trapping cavity, and respectively, to neutralize the contaminating agents by releasing sanitizing and odor conditioning agents into the air flow circulated inside the bowl (170). A toilet seat (182) having an ergonomic design has a seat-skirt (188). The invention is applicable to portable toilet systems including children's training toilets.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1993Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Inventor: Daniel S. Redford
