  • Publication number: 20040244242
Abstract: A label for a soft drink bottle or other container. The label is an elongated strip of flexible material having first and second ends, inner and outer surfaces and upper and lower edges. A first quantity of adhesive is applied to the inner surface of the strip adjacent to the first end, a second quantity of adhesive is applied to the inner surface of the strip adjacent to the second end, and a third quantity of adhesive is applied to the inner surface of the strip in a region spaced from the first and second ends. A tear line extends laterally across the strip between the upper and lower edges, the tear line being positioned adjacent to the third quantity of adhesive between the third quantity of adhesive and the second end of the strip, and defines an adhesive-free area on the inner surface between the tear line and the second quantity of adhesive.

Abstract: Facestock is adhered with adhesive to a liner sheet. Weakened separation lines in the facestock define lines of facestock labels. And weakened separation lines in the liner sheet define liner sheet strips separable from the body of the liner sheet to expose backsides of respective lines of labels. The rest of the liner sheet can then be manipulated to position the line of labels on staggered tabs, the labels pressed into position and separated from the rest of the facestock. Another embodiment includes facestock sheet separation lines defining the perimeters of facestock labels with at least one facestock handle attached thereto. The liner sheet includes a portion attached to the handle whereby the handle, the label and the portion are removable as a unit from the liner sheet and the facestock, the handle manipulated to position the label so that its adhesive backside is positioned and applied at the desired surface location, and the handle and portion then separated from the label.

Abstract: A device, system, and method for labeling three-dimensional objects. A sheet comprising at least one tag, each tag consisting of a thin piece of resilient, print-treated polyester, or other material, and a method of attaching the tag to a three-dimensional object, such as a glass or plastic vial, is described. The tag identifies each individual object, and permits transfer of the object throughout a series of analytical processes without losing object identity. The tag is marked by offset printing, laser engraving, or another marking process such that the marking does not become unreadable during handling and testing. Labeling of individual objects is accomplished by inserting an object through an aperture in the tag resulting in the tag being attached to the vial. Removal of the vial from the sheet causes the tag to be separated from the sheet and to remain attached to the vial. Alternatively, a sheet holder, such as a rack, could be used to hold the sheet of tags during the labeling process.
