Notched Or Grooved Means Patents (Class 402/52)
  • Patent number: 8573876
Abstract: A ring binder mechanism for retaining loose-leaf pages securely holds closed ring members together to prevent inadvertent loss of pages retained by the mechanism. The mechanism comprises a housing supporting two hinge plates for pivoting motion to open and close paired ring members mounted on the plates. Free ends of the paired ring members have interlocking configurations that securely join together when the ring members close. The configurations prevent misalignment of the closed ring members in all directions transverse to longitudinal centerlines of the ring members. The mechanism also includes locking elements that interact with the hinge plates to block their pivoting motion when the ring members are closed. This holds the free ends of the closed paired ring members together so that the interlocking configurations of the ring members remain interengaged.

  • Patent number: 6276862
Abstract: A binder mechanism comprises a pair of prong plates pivotally connected by a retainer spring to toggle between a first raised position and a second lowered position. The prong plates include a plurality of ring segments affixed to the prong plates that are capable of forming loops. A cam mechanism is used to toggle the prong plates between the raised and lowered positions causing the ring segments to open or to close to form loops. The cam mechanism is preferably a slider located above the prong plates, the slider having ramps inserted through recesses between the prong plates. Preferably, the recesses are located adjacent to where the ring segments are attached to the prong plates. Cleats may hold the parts of the binder mechanism together and keep the mechanism attached to a binder assembly. Preferably, the retainer spring is in the form of a top spring covering both the slider and prong plates.

  • Patent number: 5423624
Abstract: A system for retaining stacks of loose-leaf papers in a file folder providing random access to any one sheet is disclosed. The system includes flexible retainer strips sized to fit through perforated holes in the paper and whose ends are configured to releasably couple to form enclosure rings. The ends are securely engaged by relative twisting and inserting of one into the other. A series of adjustment apertures along the length of the retainer allows the formation of varying sizes of enclosure rings. Loops secured to the file folder receive the retainer strips thus holding the paper stack to the folder. The loops are positioned proximate an edge of the folder and pivotally mounted with a rotational axis aligned with the edge so as to rotate from one side of the folder to the other. The front or back side of any sheet in the stack may thus be displayed flat for photocopying or other purpose without removal from the retainer system.

  • Patent number: 4930927
Abstract: A tamper-proof binder has a C-shaped rectangular spine into which a plurality of clear plastic envelopes carrying photographs or the like are secured. The envelopes are permanently sealed on three side edges and open only on one side which is secured in the spine to prevent the photos from being removed. The spine has an upper T-shaped longitudinal slot on the underside of the top wall and a lower longitudinal slot on the top side of the bottom wall and a counterbored hole extends through the bottom wall into the lower slot. The envelopes have holes spaced along the open side edge which receive a headed fastener for each hole. The heads of the fasteners are slidably received in the T-shaped slot of the spine and the shafts of the end fasteners are received in the lower slot at the bottom of the spine. A center fastener is a permanent two-part fastener with a head at both ends and the shaft portions engage each other to prevent the fastener from being pulled apart after being pressed together.

  • Patent number: 4730972
Abstract: A two-part binding system includes one or more bifurcated posts integrally extending from a clamping strip or member. The posts are inserted into one or more apertures in a stack of punched paper or other material and a second clamping strip having one or more integral or separate latching buttons inserted over and around the posts. Each button includes one or a pair of toothed pawls integrally hinged to a cross bar extending across a button aperture. The posts contain a series of transverse ratchets facing each other. As the second strip and its integral or snap-in latching button is manually pressed over the posts toward the first clamping strip, the teeth of the pawl teeth ratchet successively into the posts toward the base of the posts until the stack of paper is firmly grasped and the teeth mesh with a final transverse ratchet. At this position, the strips are bowed putting the edges of the stacked sheets in compression.
