Abstract: A one-piece divider assembly which is folded over along one edge may be fed into a laser printer, ink jet printer, or photocopier. The assembly includes a divider sheet having a binding edge, a reduced-thickness binding edge region extending inwardly from the binding edge, and a main body with an integral, outwardly-extending tab. The divider sheet has a folding line which is inset from and which runs parallel to the binding edge. The binding edge region has a folding portion defined on one side by the binding edge and on the opposite side by the folding line. The binding edge region also has a non-folding portion adjacent to the folding portion. The folding portion includes spaced holes for a binder. A binding edge reinforcement film may be adhered to at least a portion of the binding edge region. The folding portion of the binding edge region may be folded over at the folding line, and the folding portion may be releasably tacked with a single-use adhesive to the non-folding portion of the divider sheet.

Abstract: A portfolio for securing a multileaf specimen on a page of the portfolio includes a plurality of pages bound together at respective edges. A multileaf specimen including a plurality of connected leaves is fixed via its base leaf to a predetermined one of the portfolio pages. The plurality of leaves is movable between a closed position, wherein the leaves are arranged in stacked relation, and an open, unsecured position to facilitate viewing. The multileaf specimen is secured in the closed position by a securing strap having a first end adhesively secured to one of the plurality of leaves and a second end releasably secured to the predetermined page adjacent the multileaf specimen. As such, the multileaf specimen is releasably secured in the closed position.

Abstract: A document support stand (2) for removably mounting and locking a document holder (14) on the stand includes a main body (4) which may be formed in the shape of a rectangular solid. The body includes a viewing side (6) having an elongated bracket defining a T-slot (24) mounted on it or formed in its surface. Additionally, the stand includes an apperture (19) formed in its body to cooperate with a lock (90) carried by the document holder. The document holder includes an elongated member configured as a T-shaped rail (52) which is slidably received by the bracket of the stand so that the document holder may be mounted on the stand. The document holder further includes an actuator (41) for releasably retaining documents (42). The lock is capable of locking the mounted holder to the stand and of activating and locking the retaining rings (39) of the mounted holder in a closed position.

Abstract: The improved notebook and notebook cover assembly of the present invention includes a notebook, preferably of a loose-leaf type, and a sub-assembly which includes front and rear notebook covers, an edge binder interconnecting the two covers and foldable back upon itself, and a notebook connector releasably interconnecting the notebook only to the covers. Due to the edge binder the covers are movable between a first position wherein the front cover overlies and protects the notebook and a second position wherein the front cover is behind and flat against the rear cover, thus fully exposing the notebook and supporting it in a flat position for easy viewing and writing therein. The edge binder can have a longitudinal fold line along the length of the center line of the central portion thereof, or can be divided along that center line into two halves joined together by a hinge, such as a piano hinge or a flexible strip of plastic, cloth, paper or rubber.

Abstract: A paper lifter and a loose-leaf ring binder combine to form a class two lever system. The lifter has two sets of apertures. A first set fits slidably over the rings. A curved load arm reaches inward from the apertures and abuts a plate protecting the binder ring mechanism; the curvature provides a variable length load arm with lifter angle. The contact point between the load arm and the plate becomes a system fulcrum; yet the contact point (and the lifter) is free to slide along the plate. An effort arm extends oppositely to reach and slide against the binder cover. A second set of apertures are slots in the curved load arm. The slots, in line with the rings, prevent ring interference with continuous contact between the load arm and the plate. The system fulcrum then remains on the plate for the first and critical phase of the closing motion.

Abstract: A book having at least one page with a base sheet and a cover sheet disposed thereon with illustrations on the cover sheet with at least one aperture formed in the cover sheet corresponding to a pictorial element in the illustration and at least one fiber optic strand extending between the base sheet and the cover sheet with one end of the fiber optic strand disposed under the aperture and the other end disposed at a light source, causing light to be transmitted through the fiber optic strand such that it is visibly illuminated within the aperture to form part of the pictorial content of the illustration.

Abstract: A holder apparatus acts in frictional cooperation with books, notebooks, folders, and other hand held rigid or semi-rigid binders containing reading material. The holder allows one-handed manipulation of the book, notebook, folder, or binder free of accidental dropping or slipping. A strap having inelastic and elastic portions, and fasteners on each free end, allows the strap to encircle the book, notebook, folder or binder. The fasteners releasably attach the strap to the book, notebook, folder or binder. A hand piece attached to the strap is adapted to receive a person's hand and allows easy manipulation and holding of the book, notebook, folder or binder. A pencil holder and book mark may also be releasably attached to the strap. A strap having a single fastener and an opening adapted to receive at least one finger of a person's hand attaches and holds the book, notebook, folder or binder.

Abstract: A device for storing and providing ready access to cards having a substantially rigid base member with a continuous rectangular wave-shaped slit therein. The slit forms a first set of tabs and a second set of tabs. The device further includes translucent card holders mounted on the base member for storing the cards. Each card holder has complementary slots for receiving the first set of tabs. The second set of tabs retain each card holder in place to prevent disengagement from the first set of tabs. Each card holder can be flipped to provide access to other card holders.

Abstract: An apparatus for viewing and removing selected documents retained in file folders having a flat metallic fastening member. An element (40) is formed comprised of a first arm (50), a second arm (52) and a connecting section (54). Each arm is a solid, cylindrical member which is essentially U-shaped and with a vertical slot (60) in the unconnected end of the arm, which slot is capable of receiving and holding the extended prong (26, 28) of the fastening member (24) of the file folder (20). The upper end of each slot has an inverted syncline cut (72) to hold the tapered end of the extended prong. This apparatus facilitates the viewing of a selected document, the removal of a selected document or documents, or the insertion of an additional document or documents after the overlying documents have been removed and placed onto the apparatus. This apparatus further facilitates the replacement of the removed overlying documents back onto the metallic fastening member.

Abstract: The present invention is a folder holder. It is utilized with books or similar articles designed to be retained in a hand of an individual. The present invention folder holder is utilized in either hand depending on the individual preference.

Abstract: An adhesive bound pad of paper such as loose leaf binder paper is provided which is secured in assembly by adhesive material, lining or partially lining holes along selected edges of the paper stack forming the pad. The edges of the paper pad remain free of adhesive material and thus are not distorted upon separation of the sheets from the pad. The adhesive bound pad is manufactured by assembling a selected number of sheets of paper into a stack and drilling or otherwise forming holes, such as binder holes, along one of the edges of the stack. Thereafter, the coating of adhesive material is applied within the holes of the stack so as to entirely coat the paper at the holes or to coat selected portions of the paper at the holes as desired. After the adhesive material has been allowed to cure or has been cured the paper is releasably retained in adhesive bound pad form and the manufacturing process is complete. Individual sheets of paper may be pulled away from the pad.

Abstract: A clamping device and clamping file for releasably holding sheets of paper or the like is disclosed. The clamping file includes two file covers connected to one another along a folding edge. The clamping device is swivellably fastened to one of the file covers at a window cut-out in the clamping file adjacent the folding edge. The clamping device includes first and second legs connected by a back to form a U-shaped elastic clamp for paper sheets. To facilitate insertion of paper sheets, a longitudinal end area of the clamping device is configured with one of the legs spaced from the other leg to form a paper inserting mouth which is maximally wide at a longitudinal end of one of the legs.

The binding implement includes of an elongate member that is configured to be inserted into an overlapping region defined by intermeshing the spiral binding of the books. The member is secured in its position by a securing system, which can be, for example, a catch for releasably retaining loops of the binding, hooks located at the ends of the member, protrusions positioned along the member or end plugs.

Abstract: A binder cover restraining member comprises a central, one piece, restraining strut portion and cover mounting portions formed by inner and outer retention shoulders held spaced apart in opposed relation by a narrow neck portion, at respective opposite ends thereof. The cover members are formed with pairs of aligned keyhole mounting slots extending adjacent free edges thereof remote from the spine. Endmost retention shoulders can be pushed from inside the cover members through the wide slot portions and along the slots into the narrow retention portions so that inner and endmost retention shoulders engage respective opposite surfaces of the cover members retaining respective neck portions extending therethrough so that the strut extends between the inside surfaces of respect cover members to retain them in closed condition spaced apart in parallel relation.

The releaseable spacer assembly comprises a longitudinal spacer member which is releasably attached independently to the inside of both of the cover members of the binder.

Abstract: A blank book attachment having a mark and sweep leaf with a fold out feature is provided. The leaf is pivotably retained along one edge on a frame, and the frame is pivotably retained at the binding spine of the host blank book. Pulling outward on the leaf causes the leaf to extend out and beyond the pages of the book allowing the pages to turn freely. When the leaf is placed within the host book, with the book open or closed, the leaf can be turned as a page, in which case it also acts as a mark to identify a specific position in the host book. Alternatively, the leaf may be pivoted on the frame to allow the host book pages to be turned past it in either direction.

Abstract: A pocketbook size organizer that can store a portable cellular phone. The organizer comprises a flexible book which has a first cover portion that can fold onto a center cover portion and a second cover portion that folds onto the first cover portion. The book has hook and loop material that fastens the second cover to the first cover to secure the organizer in a folded condition. The inside of the first cover has a pair of straps that secure the portable phone to the book. The straps are attached together by hook and loop material which allows the organizer to carry phones having different outer dimensions. The book also contains a pocket which can receive a calculator and a slit that can capture a note pad. The organizer can be carried by a handle which is attached to the book and has a free end that can be coupled to the outer surface of the center cover by hook and loop material.

Abstract: A portable arrangement to allow a user to retrieve and then later refile a single sheet of single or multi-part architectural plans, blueprints, and/or any document from a flat storage file drawer. The portable arrangement allows the removal of a single sheet from a tightly packed stack of sheets without losing the place of the single sheet in the file and to replace the single sheet in the stack of sheets without disturbing the order in which the sheets are arranged. A first embodiment comprises an upright rack having opposite feet that are interconnected by a crossbar, a sheet separator, first clamping device, and second clamping device, said sheet separator having a tapered front portion and a device for being mounted on at least one transverse member which in turn has a device for slidingly coupling to runners of the storage drawer.

Abstract: A hybrid binder-folder utilizing a foldable ring system for holding pages, which affords the advantage of easy page manipulation of ring binders with the advantage of flat folding of folders. The binder-folder has two side members which are mutually foldable along the centerline therebetween. Two, three or more foldable rings of flat, thin cross-section and of substantially semicircular shape are connected with the side members adjacent with and transverse to the centerline. When the two side members are mutually folded closed, the foldable rings fold along three folds: adjacent each connection with the two side members and at the ring apex. As a result of this foldability feature, the foldable rings are able to flatly fold, thereby permitting the binder-folder to be substantially flat when closed.

Abstract: A ring binder having D-shaped rings wherein the rings, when opened, position a generally straight leg of the D-shape in a vertical orientation with respect to a horizontal bottom cover panel of the binder. The straight leg has a short turned end portion which allows for simple vertical loading of pages onto the rings. The arrangement provides for greater efficiency at loading multiple pages onto a ring binder in the factory, as well as replacing pages in the ring binder by the consumer. A plurality of D-shaped rings can be used in an arrangement wherein the ring carrier can be mounted on the bottom cover, rather than mounted onto a spine panel of the ring binder. By arranging the ring carrier on the bottom cover rather than the spine, the top and bottom cover members can be made of shorter width, resulting in a savings of material of manufacture.

Abstract: A loose-leaf binder (40) or other bound work has a slot (44) defined between the outer surface of a cover or spine (48) thereof, and a transparent overlay (46) attached over the spine (48) into which a label (54) can be inserted. The overlay (46) is sealed to the spine (48) along its longitudinal edges. An elongated, flexible label leader (42) extends through the slot (44) and protrudes therefrom at its opposite ends. An adhesive portion (52) is formed on a surface (42e) of an end portion (42b) of the leader (42). The label (54) may be inserted into the slot (44) by releasably adhering an end of the label (54) to the adhesive portion (52) of the leader (42), and pulling on an opposite end portion (42c) of the leader (42), thereby pulling the attached label (54) into the slot (44). A loop portion (42f) extends from the end portion (42b) of the leader (42), and is folded back and adhered to an opposite surface (42d) of the end portion (42b).

Abstract: An improved binder attachment having a frame and an article, such as a calculator, mounted thereto. The frame includes a center portion and two arm portions. A slot engaging element is mounted to each arm portion so as to define an opening therebetween. The article is received in the opening and has a top edge surface and a bottom edge surface, each defining a slot for receiving the slot engaging elements. When the frame is attached to the binder, the article is permitted to slide along the slot engaging elements such that the article may be placed in adjacent face-up locations.

Abstract: A recording disc filing device for storing optical recording discs such as compact discs. The filing device includes a recording disc filing sheet having a plurality of recording disc storing sections for receiving recording discs, respectively. The recording disc storing sections are arranged in a predetermined pattern. The filing device further includes a leaflet filing sheet having leaflet storing sections for receiving leaflets carrying information on recorded contents in the recording discs stored in the recording disc storing sections. The leaflet storing sections correspond in number to the recording disc storing sections. The recording disc filing sheet and the leaflet filing sheet are arranged so that the leaflet storing sections in the leaflet filing sheet are located at positions corresponding to the recording disc storing sections in the recording disc filing sheet.

Abstract: A device for punching holes in paper is adapted to be positioned within the binder mechanism of a loose leaf notebook. The device employs an integral receiving base having a bore and cutting aperture. A punch member is slidably disposed within the bore above the aperture and adapted to move in a reciprocal manner in orthogonal relationship to the notebook.

Abstract: An apparatus (10) for making a binder self-supporting has a right-angular shaped side wall (20) of a height approximately equal to the width of the spine (34) of a binder (30). The right-angular shaped side wall is perpendicularly connected to a right-angular shaped bottom wall (22). The right-angular shaped bottom wall (22) is affixed to the inside surface (38) of either the front or back cover (36) of the binder (30). Once the apparatus (10) is affixed to the binder (30), the open edge of the binder (30), which is opposite the spine (34), presents a box-like configuration. The edge (24) of the right-angular shaped bottom wall (22) is bevelled so that sheets filed in the binder (30) more easily pass over that edge (24).

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus enable automated assembly of loose-leaf books, preferably photo albums from snap-ring binders of the slant D configuration and pages with peel-back overlays on mounting sheets. The apparatus comprises: a binder conveyor adapted to position a binder at an assembly station such that an upstanding segment of each ring in open position extends upward and has a vertical projection smaller than that of the holes in the pages; a page support positioned above the binder conveyor and having openings therein adapted for alignment with the holes in the pages; and a binder lift mechanism adapted to vertically lift a binder such that a segment of each ring is moved through the openings in the page support and the holes in the pages supported thereby. The process is automated and employs two linearly moving conveyors which intersect to enable positioning the binder with open ring elements at the assembly station.

Abstract: A notebook binder with an integral book band for holding sheets of paper, loose books or other objects affixed to the interior and exterior faces of a cover of the notebook binder. The objects are held against the cover of the notebook binder by the use of an adjustable strap which encircles the objects with two loops that are substantially perpendicular to one another. The strap passes through a strap slot in a cover of the binder. The apparatus has the multiple, simultaneous, advantages of consolidating a group of papers, books or other objects onto the face of a binder cover with a single strap, maintaining the strap attached to the binder in a prealigned, readily usable, perpendicular loop configuration and discouraging unintended uses of the strap.

Abstract: A binder includes a notebook, a rotatable mounting assembly and an electronic processor secured to the notebook by the mounting assembly. The mounting assembly includes a frame pivotally connected to an outer edge of a notebook cover and a slip case pivotally attached to the frame. The slip case releasably secures an electronic processor such that the processor can be rotated relative to the cover to any position between a retracted position adjacent the cover inside surface and a fully extended position adjacent the cover outside surface. At the same time, the electronic processor can be selectively rotated within the frame to face any desired direction.

Abstract: The present invention provides improved apparatus and method for binding stationery items, such as stacks and rolls of paper, file folders, and the like. The invention provides an elastic strip which includes hook and loop attachment means on its ends to bind to itself to form a continuous band. In the preferred embodiment, one end of the strip is provided with a Y-shaped end to form a more secure attachment. The present invention provides all the benefits of conventional rubber bands, but is easier to use and avoids many of the problems normally encountered with existing stationery binding methods.

Abstract: A rotatable binder insert for supporting and holding such articles as calculators or other electronic devices, to-do lists and check lists, self-stick removable notes, etc., that are used to supplement, or in conjunction with, information written on the pages of the binder. Inasmuch as such information may be found on both sides of the binder rings, i.e., on both right- and left-hand pages, an article used therewith must similarly be visible and accessible on alternate sides of the binder rings. By being mounted on a support member capable of rotating 180.degree. on a frame insertable anywhere in the binder and readily attachable to the binder rings such articles can be placed alongside information found on either right or left-hand pages.

The rear cover panel has a width between its first and second opposite side margins. The retaining assembly is mounted on the rear cover panel adjacent to the first side margin of the rear panel and extends along the first side margin. The front cover panel has a width between its first and second opposite side margins. The first side margin of the front panel is disposed parallel to the first side margin of the rear panel. The front panel is less in width than the rear panel, and the difference in width between the front and rear panels is greater than the transverse dimension of the sheet retaining assembly. The spine sheet extends between and foldably joined along fold lines to the first side margins of the front and rear panels, and has a width between the first side margins of the front and rear panels.

Abstract: A cardboard blank has a plurality of fold lines dividing the blank into section for folding into a loose leaf folder or a box file. The fold lines define two cover sections between which there is a spine portion having multiple spine fold lines defining a binding zone which can be formed as a double thickness ridge to which papers can be attached. The fold lines additionally define various flaps which can be folded flat onto the cover portions to form a loose leaf file or which can extend to form a box shape with the cover portions and spine portion.

Abstract: A hybrid binder-folder utilizing a foldable ring system for holding pages, which affords the advantage of easy page manipulation of ring binders with the advantage of flat folding of folders. The binder-folder has two side members which are mutually foldable along the centerline therebetween. Two, three or more foldable rings of flat, thin cross-section and of substantially semicircular shape are connected with the side members adjacent with and transverse to the centerline. When the two side members are mutually folded closed, the foldable rings fold along three folds: adjacent each connection with the two side members and at the ring apex. As a result of this foldability feature, the foldable rings are able to flatly fold, thereby permitting the binder-folder to be substantially flat when closed.

Abstract: A pocket binder with a ring mount slidably seated in a compartment between the panels of the binder cover for attachment to a ringed binder. The ring mount may be partially extended from the compartment to expose a plurality of holes for insertion in a ringed binder. Alternatively, the ring mount may be retracted into the compartment to reduce the width of the pocket binder to a size capable of being stored in a suit pocket. A second embodiment discloses a pocket binder and ringed binder combination with the pocket binder attached to the ringed binder by the insertion of the rings through the holes in the pocket binder.

Abstract: A binder useful for containing articles that have holes located near the edge of the article. The binder has a plurality of spaced apart oppositely located ribs attached to either side of a hinge that pass through the holes when the binder is in a closed position to securely contain the articles.

Abstract: A sample book for retaining a plurality of sample cards includes at least two retaining members for the sample cards disposed on opposite sides of a foldable spine. In the folded position of the spine, the retaining members are relatively close to one another, while in the unfolded position of the spine the retaining members are spaced from one another so that the sample cards can lie flatly therebetween.

Abstract: What is disclosed is methods and apparatus for removing selected submerged sheets of paper from stacks of paper fastened in file folders by Acco-type fasteners. The apparatus is a superincumbent sheet remover consisting of a rigid plate having a paper clamp at one edge and notches on at least one edge for the prongs of the fastener which fastens the sheets of the stack in the file folder.

Abstract: A quick revision apparatus (22) and method for guiding loose leaf documents (12) across a gap (11) between a pair of mating binder ring members (3A and 3B) to facilitate quick revision of a set of documents (12) held thereby having a pivotally mounted bridge (6A) for spanning the gap (11) which is moved to an operative position by movement of a leaf element (12) thereon from one of the ring members (3B) to the other ring member (3A).

Abstract: A device for supporting a ring binder vertically within a hanging file system of the type having laterally extending support rails, the device being suitable for use with conventional ring binders of the type having a spine and a ring mechanism secured to the spine by two or more fasteners. The device includes a thin, U-shaped support bracket adapted to be removably inserted between the spine of the ring binder and the ring mechanism of the ring binder. The U-shaped support bracket has a medial portion, a hook-like portion, and first and second elongate arms extending from the medial portion. The first and second elongate arms are spaced apart from one another and define an opening therebetween which is sized and adapted to receive therein one of the fasteners of the ring binder.

Each side of the page is covered with a web of pressure-sensitive label stock which is kiss die cut to form removable, repositionable labels within permanent matrices. The matrices define zones which facilitate repositioning of the removed labels.

Abstract: A writing platform for a notebook, the writing platform including a writing table that can be elevated from a flat configuration to an elevated position along one edge adjacent the ring binder of the notebook so as to provide a slanted writing surface underneath one or more pages in the notebook. A riser is hingedly joined to the writing table and supports the edge of the writing table at a preselected elevation. Engagement means are included on the riser element and are used to releasably engage the rings of the ring binder to releasably support the writing table in a generally wedge-like orientation. The dimensional characteristics of the riser and the engagement means on the riser determine the elevation of the edge of the writing table.
