    Abstract: A one-piece divider assembly which is folded over along one edge may be fed into a laser printer, ink jet printer, or photocopier. The assembly includes a divider sheet having a binding edge, a reduced-thickness binding edge region extending inwardly from the binding edge, and a main body with an integral, outwardly-extending tab. The divider sheet has a folding line which is inset from and which runs parallel to the binding edge. The binding edge region has a folding portion defined on one side by the binding edge and on the opposite side by the folding line. The binding edge region also has a non-folding portion adjacent to the folding portion. The folding portion includes spaced holes for a binder. A binding edge reinforcement film may be adhered to at least a portion of the binding edge region. The folding portion of the binding edge region may be folded over at the folding line, and the folding portion may be releasably tacked with a single-use adhesive to the non-folding portion of the divider sheet.

The plurality of leaves is movable between a closed position, wherein the leaves are arranged in stacked relation, and an open, unsecured position to facilitate viewing. The multileaf specimen is secured in the closed position by a securing strap having a first end adhesively secured to one of the plurality of leaves and a second end releasably secured to the predetermined page adjacent the multileaf specimen. As such, the multileaf specimen is releasably secured in the closed position.

The document holder includes an elongated member configured as a T-shaped rail (52) which is slidably received by the bracket of the stand so that the document holder may be mounted on the stand. The document holder further includes an actuator (41) for releasably retaining documents (42). The lock is capable of locking the mounted holder to the stand and of activating and locking the retaining rings (39) of the mounted holder in a closed position.

    Abstract: The improved notebook and notebook cover assembly of the present invention includes a notebook, preferably of a loose-leaf type, and a sub-assembly which includes front and rear notebook covers, an edge binder interconnecting the two covers and foldable back upon itself, and a notebook connector releasably interconnecting the notebook only to the covers. Due to the edge binder the covers are movable between a first position wherein the front cover overlies and protects the notebook and a second position wherein the front cover is behind and flat against the rear cover, thus fully exposing the notebook and supporting it in a flat position for easy viewing and writing therein. The edge binder can have a longitudinal fold line along the length of the center line of the central portion thereof, or can be divided along that center line into two halves joined together by a hinge, such as a piano hinge or a flexible strip of plastic, cloth, paper or rubber.

    Abstract: A paper lifter and a loose-leaf ring binder combine to form a class two lever system. The lifter has two sets of apertures. A first set fits slidably over the rings. A curved load arm reaches inward from the apertures and abuts a plate protecting the binder ring mechanism; the curvature provides a variable length load arm with lifter angle. The contact point between the load arm and the plate becomes a system fulcrum; yet the contact point (and the lifter) is free to slide along the plate. An effort arm extends oppositely to reach and slide against the binder cover. A second set of apertures are slots in the curved load arm. The slots, in line with the rings, prevent ring interference with continuous contact between the load arm and the plate. The system fulcrum then remains on the plate for the first and critical phase of the closing motion.

A pencil holder and book mark may also be releasably attached to the strap. A strap having a single fastener and an opening adapted to receive at least one finger of a person's hand attaches and holds the book, notebook, folder or binder.

    Abstract: An apparatus for viewing and removing selected documents retained in file folders having a flat metallic fastening member. An element (40) is formed comprised of a first arm (50), a second arm (52) and a connecting section (54). Each arm is a solid, cylindrical member which is essentially U-shaped and with a vertical slot (60) in the unconnected end of the arm, which slot is capable of receiving and holding the extended prong (26, 28) of the fastening member (24) of the file folder (20). The upper end of each slot has an inverted syncline cut (72) to hold the tapered end of the extended prong. This apparatus facilitates the viewing of a selected document, the removal of a selected document or documents, or the insertion of an additional document or documents after the overlying documents have been removed and placed onto the apparatus. This apparatus further facilitates the replacement of the removed overlying documents back onto the metallic fastening member.

    Abstract: An adhesive bound pad of paper such as loose leaf binder paper is provided which is secured in assembly by adhesive material, lining or partially lining holes along selected edges of the paper stack forming the pad. The edges of the paper pad remain free of adhesive material and thus are not distorted upon separation of the sheets from the pad. The adhesive bound pad is manufactured by assembling a selected number of sheets of paper into a stack and drilling or otherwise forming holes, such as binder holes, along one of the edges of the stack. Thereafter, the coating of adhesive material is applied within the holes of the stack so as to entirely coat the paper at the holes or to coat selected portions of the paper at the holes as desired. After the adhesive material has been allowed to cure or has been cured the paper is releasably retained in adhesive bound pad form and the manufacturing process is complete. Individual sheets of paper may be pulled away from the pad.

The leaf is pivotably retained along one edge on a frame, and the frame is pivotably retained at the binding spine of the host blank book. Pulling outward on the leaf causes the leaf to extend out and beyond the pages of the book allowing the pages to turn freely. When the leaf is placed within the host book, with the book open or closed, the leaf can be turned as a page, in which case it also acts as a mark to identify a specific position in the host book. Two, three or more foldable rings of flat, thin cross-section and of substantially semicircular shape are connected with the side members adjacent with and transverse to the centerline. When the two side members are mutually folded closed, the foldable rings fold along three folds: adjacent each connection with the two side members and at the ring apex. As a result of this foldability feature, the foldable rings are able to flatly fold, thereby permitting the binder-folder to be substantially flat when closed.

The arrangement provides for greater efficiency at loading multiple pages onto a ring binder in the factory, as well as replacing pages in the ring binder by the consumer. A plurality of D-shaped rings can be used in an arrangement wherein the ring carrier can be mounted on the bottom cover, rather than mounted onto a spine panel of the ring binder. By arranging the ring carrier on the bottom cover rather than the spine, the top and bottom cover members can be made of shorter width, resulting in a savings of material of manufacture.

The invention provides an elastic strip which includes hook and loop attachment means on its ends to bind to itself to form a continuous band. In the preferred embodiment, one end of the strip is provided with a Y-shaped end to form a more secure attachment. The present invention provides all the benefits of conventional rubber bands, but is easier to use and avoids many of the problems normally encountered with existing stationery binding methods.

    Abstract: A hybrid binder-folder utilizing a foldable ring system for holding pages, which affords the advantage of easy page manipulation of ring binders with the advantage of flat folding of folders. The binder-folder has two side members which are mutually foldable along the centerline therebetween. Two, three or more foldable rings of flat, thin cross-section and of substantially semicircular shape are connected with the side members adjacent with and transverse to the centerline. When the two side members are mutually folded closed, the foldable rings fold along three folds: adjacent each connection with the two side members and at the ring apex. As a result of this foldability feature, the foldable rings are able to flatly fold, thereby permitting the binder-folder to be substantially flat when closed.
