Abstract: A book having self-illuminating pages, each page utilizing transparent sheets sandwiched around an opaque sheet with indicia imprinted on the transparent sheets illuminated by a light source within the spine of the book passing light in through the edges of the transparent sheets facing the spine, such light passing through the planar body of the transparent sheets, illuminating the indicia imprinted thereon.

Abstract: A writing platform for a notebook, the writing platform including a writing table that can be elevated from a flat configuration to an elevated position along one edge adjacent the ring binder of the notebook so as to provide a writing surface underneath one or more pages in the notebook. A riser is hingedly joined between a basal element and the writing table and supports the edge of the writing table at a preselected elevation. Detent means are included on the basal element and are engaged by the writing table to releasably support the riser in a generally vertical orientation. The dimensional characteristics of the writing table, the riser, and the detent means determine the ultimate elevation of the edge of the writing table.

Upstanding rivets secure a support means to the plates. The support means may support a ring binder mechanism, a binder clamp mechanism or other binder mechanism. The support means is secured to the assembly by deforming the heads of the rivets. The rivets and plates may be secured together by assembly and swaging. Spacer elements may be positioned between the plate or plates and the arcuate casing of a ring binder mechanism.

Abstract: In a loose leaf binder the left (2a, 3a) and the right prong parts (2b, 3b) are each disposed on a common carrier plate (4). The carrier plates (4) are pivotably connected to a base plate (5) and can be depressed using a lever (8) against the force of coil springs (11) into a position in which they lie flat on the base plate. By pulling gently on the end of the catch (10) the binder is released and opens due to the force of the springs (11). Even in the opened state it is still possible to turn the sheets from one prong part to another without such turning being hindered by the lever.

Abstract: The present application discloses a display system for visual display purposes comprising a supporting structure adapted for supporting at least one display pad, the supporting structure having first cooperating releasable retaining pins adapted to releasably hold the pad and having second cooperating releasable retaining apertures adapted to operate in conjunction with the first cooperating releasable pins, the second cooperating releasable aperture being for mounting the pad with the first cooperating releasable pins to the supporting structure. Abstract: A single piece file clasp, molded from a resin material, includes a main body portion and two prong portions extending from opposite ends of the main body portion. A series of equally spaced holes are molded in one of the prong portions and at least one post is molded in the other prong portion. The post is molded with a knob at its end which is dimensioned to provide a snap-fit engagement with any one of the holes to secure the prong portions together at varying amounts of overlap between them.

Abstract: Low cost index media for use with loose-leaf binders and wirebound notebooks. An index tab includes a base portion having a plurality of apertures engagable by rings of a ring binder, and an index portion which projects beyond documents within the notebook in order to display index indicia. The index portion is integral with but offset from the base portion to define a clearance region which prevents interference between the index tab and an actuator lever for the loose-leaf binder. A second indexing article consists of an index sheet having a base portion and index portion, the base portion being of comparable dimensions to the documents within the notebook, and being bindable within the notebook. The index portion is foldable relative to the base portion, and may include preprinted index indicia as well as an area for inscribing merge information associated with respective indices.

The device is a ring binder in which a time piece is mounted for easily viewing the time display. A pocket is provided on the front cover of the device for receiving and easily changing opaque and transparent imprinted sheets to alter appearance, while exposing the time display.

Abstract: A paper handling device for use with sheets of paper fastened together in a stack by two fastening posts to enable transfer of the sheets from the posts to the handling device. The paper handling device preferably has a U-shaped body with two finger portions that extend outwardly from a manually grippable handle portion. The finger portions have extensions or ends with a length dimensioned to extend along a substantial distance of the posts and a thickness dimension enabling positioning of the finger ends next to the posts for sliding of the paper over a combination of the posts and the finger ends. A structure for alignment of the posts with the fingers is provided.

Abstract: This album with interchangeable sheets has coupling elements for the sheets which are preferably made of plastics, are fixed on the inner side of the rear cover and can be opened after extracting closure profiled elements which are mutually aligned and are parallel to the spine of the binder. The sheets may easily be turned since they have slots which are particularly enlarged with respect to the cross section of the coupling elements. Furthermore a perfect alignment of the sheets is obtained in a very simple and original manner, by virtue of raised portions which also protrude from the inner side of the rear cover and act against an appropriately shaped inner edge of the sheets.

Abstract: A modular binder ring is disclosed having a disk shaped central portion, an aperture formed substantially in the center of the central portion, and an annular outer rim formed on the periphery of the central portion. The outer rim includes an arcuately shaped outer surface configured as an outer segment of a circle, and has an axial width greater than the axial width of a central portion. Further, there is disclosed a loose leaf modular binder system comprising at least two modular binder rings, with a spine rod extending through the aligned apertures, capable of binding a plurality of loose leaf paper sheets of different lengths and widths. The paper sheets have die cut perforations on one edge sized to fit about the outer rim of the binder rings. The spine rod enables the bound pages to be removably suspended from a storage rack. In another embodiment, the pages are bound to the binder rings without the spine rod extended through the apertures.

Abstract: A spacing element for a paper binding device for maintaining the covers of the device in a substantially parallel relation to provide for easy storage thereof. The spacing element comprises a base portion adapted to be affixed to the inside surface of one of the binder covers and a spacing portion extending substantially transversely from the base portion and adapted to engage the inside surface of the opposite cover when the covers are closed. The spacing portion preferably includes a plurality of notches for adjusting its length to accommodate binding devices of different size. The spacing element is further preferably provided with adhesive arranged on the underside of the base portion for affixing the spacing element to an inside surface of the binder cover.

Abstract: A loose-leaf binder (10) or other bound volume has a slot (24) defined between the outer surface of a spine (12) thereof, and a transparent overlay (22) attached over the spine (12), into which a label (30) can be inserted. The cover (22) is sealed to the spine (12) along its longitudinal edges (46). An elongated, flexible label leader (26) is designed to extend through the slot (24) and protrude therefrom at its opposite ends. An adhesive portion (28) is formed at one end of the leader (26). The label (30) may be inserted into the slot (24) by releasably adhering one end of the label (30) to the adhesive portion (28) of the leader (26), and pulling on the other end of the leader (26), thereby pulling the attached label (30) into the slot (24).

Abstract: An expandable double ring binder for carrying and displaying swatches of material samples includes a pair of loose leaf ring metals slidably mounted on a carriage attached to the inside of the backbone of a loose leaf binder case, such that the ring metals may be spread apart laterally when the case is opened to a distance sufficient to allow the samples attached to each ring metal to be fully accessed for examination, removal or the like without interference by the other ring metal and samples attached thereto. Each ring metal is secured to a slide plate which, in turn, is slidably attached to an underlying slotted carriage plate by rivets extending loosely through the slots and attached to a slide plate follower on the underside of the carriage plate.

Abstract: A looseleaf notebook is provided for retaining bar code listings which denote conditions of a patient in a hospital. The notebok includes a strap which encircles the binding of the notebook. Preferably this strap is fixed in place between the notebook ring mechanism and the inside of the binding panel of the notebook. The strap is also preferably adjustable or resiliently stretchable. The strap permits the notebook to be held open and manipulated by a user who slides a hand between the strap and the binding panel while supporting the opened covers of the notebook with the thumb and fingers of the hand. With the notebook being held in one hand in this manner, the user's other hand is free to manipulate a bar code reader over the patient condition bar codes, or to perform other information-gathering or medical functions.

Abstract: A organizer for a large number of documents comprises a rigid backing member, a front cover and a back cover, both pivotally mounted to the backing member. The backing member is sufficiently wide to receive a plurality of removable parallel conventional ring binder assemblies and accordingly includes a plurality of mechanisms to receive the binder assemblies. The ring binder assemblies comprise a rigid spine, a plurality of rings and a mechanism to open and close the rings to receive perforated pages thereon. The front and back covers preferably provide handle holes set back from the edges a distance such that the end pages overlie the user's fingers when the organizer is picked up. In this fashion, the leading edges of the end pages do not cut the user's fingers. In addition, a retractable stand is provided for supporting the ring binders at an inclined readable angle.

Slots, flaps, or adhesives may be used to secure the card to the index card. In one embodiment, the index card includes a frame which is folded over the business card to give a framed finished appearance. In some cases, the business card is removably secured to the index card, while in others, the business card is permanently secured to the index card.

Abstract: A sheet retaining binder is described for detachably holding perforated sheets, the binder comprising a front cover, a rear cover, and a spine, a plurality of sheet retaining rings each ring comprising two portions detachably engaging at one end and hinged at the other; the hinge projecting beyond the sides of the ring and passing through a plate attached solidly to the rear cover such that the hinge axis lies just inside the cover edge and approximately at the middle of the cover thickness dimension. The cover and spine assembly are slotted to allow the rings to pass through. The connections of the covers to the spine and the center-line of the spine are hinged to allow for complete 360 degree rotation of the front cover and any number of contained sheets relative to the rear cover.

Abstract: The video tape log device includes a looseleaf binder with front and back covers connected to a page holder bearing a longitudinal spine and transverse page connectors in the form of openable rings or clips. The device also includes a plurality of pages, each being encased in plastic which can be marked and erased. The pages bear on both sides indicia in the form of marked columns for entering information identifying the particular tape involved and the segments of the tape by a condition code, by the segment title and by the position of the segment on the tape. The pages can also be colored or bear colored tabs to distinguish types of entries on the tape; for example, different types of movies. Moreover, the device can include a removable ink pen and an eraser, and, if desired, for a more permanent record, an indelible ink pen, and solvent to remove the ink, as well as a solvent applicator. Those items can be disposed in recessed pockets in one or both binder covers for ready access by the log user.

Abstract: The storage device of this invention provides an improved accessory holder for standard ring binders having a plurality of ring guides attached to a binder spine-mounted back plate. The device comprises a generally hollow housing member conditioned for placement against and attachment to the binder back plate, and within the rings themselves, so as not to interfere with the sheets or other contents of the binder. The housing member has a central cavity for holding accessory items such as pencils, rulers, and the like, and includes a cap or door for access to the central cavity.

The handle element is adapted for rotation about the coil axis to advance the binding coil along the axis for engaging and disengaging the coil in apertures of the leaves. The handle may be secured to a cover leaf with the binding coil engaged in the apertures.

Abstract: A clamping folder for unperforated written material containing a rear folder cover (14), which is connected using a folded back (13) with a narrow strip (17), to which is welded a front sheet made from transparent or translucent plastic. A clip (16) is used for securing the written matter and is secured against removal in that it engages on one edge (19) of the folder. Edge (19) can e.g. be formed by a slot (15). The engagement of clip (16) for preventing removal can take place on both the front and rear sides.

Abstract: Provided is an insertion device for paper sheet materials into window pockets. The invention is composed of two elongated flat prongs composed of a stiff but flexible material that are joined at one end to form a handle. Paper sheet material is placed between the elongated flat prongs which act as a shield therefor during insertion of the invention into a window pocket. A finger placed on a protruding edge corner of the paper sheet allows withdrawal of the invention from the window pocket without removing the paper sheet. The invention may be used for extraction of the paper sheet as well.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a loose leaf type ring binder having two long sides and a designated top and bottom for temporarily attaching perforated papers or the like to a file or folder. A pair of rings are loosely attached to the file or folder near the designated top in a manner so that they are free to pivot relative to the sides of the folder through substantially 180 degrees to a position substantially parallel with the surface of the folder or file in either direction of pivot. The opening through the center of the rings being positioned perpendicular to the designated top and bottom. Each of the rings are split and provided with a hinge so that the rings can be opened at the split to receive perforations in the papers to the attached thereto. The rings include a locking device at the ends of the split to prevent unwanted opening of the rings at the split and stops to prevent circumferential rotation of the rings relative to the file or folder.

U-shaped clamps (40) for accommodating and fixing the paper sheets (11) are detachably secured in the holding members (26, 28). One (28) of said holding members is movable along the longitudinal direction of the bar (20) while the other holding member (26) is fixedly joined to the bar (20) (FIG. 1).

Abstract: A document handle comprises a pair of elongated members. The outer ends of the document handle are provided with webs having hooked openings for engaging the binder posts of a bound multi-page document. The first member is formed as a channel adapted to slidingly receive the second member. The second member is formed with latches that engage openings in the first member to lock the two members together in positions at which the webbed openings engage the binder posts. Several sets of openings can be formed in the first member, so that the same document handle can be used with a variety of standard size papers.

Primary features of the chart organizer are the post spacing and the relative lengths of the keyhole post and the keyhole slot post. The post spacing equals the length of the keyhole slot in the recording chart or charts, in order to minimize damage to the recording chart(s) which are placed on the chart organizer.

Abstract: This invention relates to a multi-purpose album and in particular to one including a front cover, a back cover, a number of pages and a supporting stand. The front cover and the back cover are constituted by a flap and a slide plate, which flap has a rectangular recess at the central position for receiving a transparent plastic sheet and three raised edges. The slide plate may be inserted into the front cover and has a hinged portion which may overlap thereon. The hinged portion has two holes and two self-attaching pads. The pages are provided with two holes for receiving two sets of screws and nuts designed to bind the pages, the front cover and the back cover together.

Abstract: An elongated tubular body is provided for reception within the confines of closed rings of a "ring binder" and with the body spaced radially inwardly from the inner surfaces of the rings sufficient to enable sheets of paper slidingly engaged with the rings to slide thereabout without interference with the tubular body.
