  • Patent number: 5192142
Abstract: An improved collar assembly adapted for easing the disassembly of stacked members on a shaft subjected to compressive loading is disclosed. The collar assembly includes a pair of collar members which are mounted contiguously abutting one another along a planar angulated interface. One of the collar members defines a bore therethrough configured to closely correspond to the exterior diameter or exterior configuration of the shaft in which the collar assembly is to be mounted. The second collar assembly defines a bore therethrough which is dimensioned to be substantially larger than the shaft exterior configuration in which the assembly is to be mounted. The disparity in the bore sizes permits the second collar to be displaced laterally as well as axially along the shaft with respect to the shaft and along the planar interface of the two-collar members. The two-collar members define the respective exterior engagement surface adapted to engage and otherwise abut against a member stacked on the shaft.

The one-way clutch (A) comprises a clutch body (30) which is connected to the main drive shaft (16) and fits within an outer race (28) of an input drive sheave (20) which is driven by a suitable power source.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing a propeller hub secured by a nut to a tapered drive shaft. A puller abutment is fixed to the hub in position to engage the nut and prevent axial movement of the nut relative to the hub. Rotation of the nut against the axially immovable abutment results in axial movement of the hub, nut and abutment relative to the shaft, separating the hub from the shaft. Continued rotation of the nut separates the hub and nut from the shaft.

Abstract: A railroad vehicle end-of-car center coupler includes a telescopic energy absorber comprising a hollow cylindrical plunger in a cylinder having one closed end. The plunger has an aperture in its inner end wall. A perforated metering tube is fixed in the closed end wall by a special fixing arrangement. It projects through the aperture and carries an annular piston head which slides in the bore of the plunger. A floating piston divides the interior of the plunger into a gas space and a liquid chamber. Four direct acting pressure relief valves are mounted in the piston head. Conduits through the tube connect their inlets to respective ones of four axially-spaced ports in the outer surface of the tube so that they all communicate with the annular chamber that surrounds the tube within the plunger when the absorber is compressed and so that they are progressively cut-off from such communication during the final stages of extension of the absorber.

Abstract: A latching lever for use with a printed circuit board and being of a width similar to that of a faceplate for the PCB, includes an actuating member and a hooked portion projecting therefrom. The actuating member is flexibly hinged to a body portion of the latching lever by a hinge formation which includes a thick section located in a plane of the hooked portion for defining a preferred resilience of the hinge, and a thinner section away from the thick section for stabilizing the actuating member in relation to the body portion. A stud carried by the PCB is engaged by the hooked portion to latch the lever. The hooked portion is disengaged from the stud by moving the actuating member thereby freeing the lever to rotate about its pivot point. A portion of the body remote from the actuating member and extending beyond the pivot point includes a stop formation for contacting an edge of the PCB to prevent unnecessarily extreme rotation.

  • Patent number: 4629354
Abstract: A tapered shaft retention apparatus is used with a shaft having a shoulder, a cylindrical surface, a smooth conically tapered surface, and an annular member such as an inner race of a bearing assembly mounted on the cylindrical surface. A sleeve is mounted on the shaft with an adjustment nut screwthreadably mounted thereon, and an internally tapered hub is mounted on the tapered surface in abutment with the nut with a preselected press fit. This assures the transmission of torque through the hub and positions the bearing assembly on the shaft. During assembly the hub is initially installed at an ambient temperature and the adjustment nut set at a preselected clearance therefrom, the hub is then removed and thermally expanded and reinstalled in abutment with the nut to establish the desired press fit.
