  • Patent number: 8701359
Abstract: A cast structural connector connects a structural member, such as a hollow structural section (HSS) or wide flange (W) section member, to a structural frame. The connector is particularly suited for lateral bracing and includes a first end configured to receive the structural member and be welded to the structural member, a second end for connecting to the structural frame, and an intermediate portion. The first end includes beveling allowing compatibility with structural members of varying sizes and enabling complete joint penetration welding thereby developing the full axial strength of the structural member. The intermediate portion provides for transmission of forces as the frame deforms, for example, under severe seismic conditions, and can include a flexural plastic hinge portion. The connector can be welded to the structural frame or connected by a standard fabricated end connection, such as a gusset plate. Casting manufacturing allows for mass production of the connector.

  • Patent number: 4066372
Abstract: This disclosure teaches a slotted flange connector useable in a method for replacing an existing utility pole (usually wood), without disturbing hardware mounted thereon. As taught in U.S. Pat. No. 3,911,548, the utility pole includes a proximal section having a bottom end attached to the earth and a distal section having hardware mounted thereon. A new pole section (preferably of prestressed concrete) is attached to the earth approximately located and adapted for receiving the distal section. The distal section (with its hardware intact thereon) is severed from the proximal section. The distal section then is connected to project from the new pole section by means of the slotted flange connector disclosed herein. Closure plates complement each other to form a cylindrical enclosure about one of the pole sections. Preferably one of the closure plates is fixed and the other is moveable. The movement preferably is provided by means of bolts.

  • Patent number: 4017934
Abstract: An adapter for mounting the end of a toothbrush handle to the vibratory output shaft of a toothbrush motor is a generally cylindrical body having front and rear bores for respectively receiving the handle and the shaft. The body is a resilient plastic molded about a cup-shaped metal insert. The interior surface of the insert defines the rear bore and includes roughening projections for engaging the shaft. The exterior surface of the insert appears as a pin recessed coaxially in the front bore for engaging a bore in the end of the toothbrush handle. The front bore is defined by plural angularly spaced apart plastic fingers configured to snap into a circumferential groove in the toothbrush handle.
