Axially Extending Patents (Class 403/356)
  • Patent number: 4033439
Abstract: A rotating clutch of a vehicle has a plurality of clutch discs positioned between a clutch piston and a base element. A means is provided for connecting the clutch piston to the base element for rotation one with the other as a unit and movement of the clutch piston in directions toward and from the base element and intervening clutch discs.

  • Patent number: 4019220
Abstract: Hydraulic door closer apparatus comprises a cylinder and an elongated piston disposed in the cylinder, the piston being made of relatively easily machined material, but having associated with it a rack of harder, wear and impact-resistant material for transmitting forces and motion to and from the piston.

  • Patent number: 3995968
Abstract: A rotor disc for a rotor shaft member of an axial flow turbine apparatus is disclosed. The disc has disposed externally thereon a flat surface which lies parallel to a predetermined longitudinal plane extending within the disc. The plane is disposed within the disc so as to extend through a keyway utilized to prevent rotation of the disc relative to the shaft. The predetermined longitudinal plane within the disc is the plane in which cracking of the disc is most likely to occur. The externally disposed, flat, surface area of the disc permits an ultrasonic signal emitted from a transducer disposed adjacent to the external surface to propagate in a direction substantially perpendicular to the predetermined plane within the disc.

  • Patent number: 3986370
Abstract: Apparatus for connecting motors in tandem and particularly in vertical alignment includes a coupling for connecting the lower end of the shaft of the upper motor to the upper end of the shaft of the lower motor. A tubular member surrounds the coupling with its upper end extending into the outer housing of the upper motor and its lower end threaded into the outer housing of the lower motor. A lock ring surrounds the tubular member and has a keyed connection with the outer housing of the lower motor. The upper end of the lock ring and the lower end of the outer housing preferably have ten equally spaced keyways therein. A key extends into a pair of matching keyways of the lock ring and upper outer housing and screws hold the keys in place by passing through aligned holes in the lock ring and upper outer housing into threaded holes in the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 3981600
Abstract: A key retaining device includes an elongated cylindrical shaft with a notch formed therein, a tubular member journalled on the shaft and having a slot formed therethrough which is aligned with the notch, a key insertable in the notch and slot for providing a torque transmitting couple between the shaft and the tubular member, and a key retaining mechanism anchorably secured to the tubular member for holding the key in its locked condition and for transferring force across the slot in the tubular member upon the transmittal of torque between the shaft and tubular member.

  • Patent number: 3978966
Abstract: A unit for sensing a tabulation operation in an automatic typewriter. An interconnecting member is disposed between a typewriter mainspring and a fluid clutch. This member has a disk portion nested in a hole formed in a mainspring housing. An eccentric pin portion extends axially from the disk portion and engages the mainspring while a counter-extending shaft portion engages a drive shaft from the fluid clutch. When the mainspring unwinds during a tabulation operation, it rotates the interconnecting member and drive shaft to displace an outer housing arm on the fluid clutch and close a switch thereby to indicate the occurrence of the tabulation operation.

  • Patent number: 3941506
Abstract: An impeller and shaft assembly suitable for use in an overhung compressor for facilitating mounting and rearranging impellers upon a shaft. A stud is threaded into the end of the shaft and the impeller slidably mounted thereon. An elongated key is inserted between the stud, the shaft, and the impeller to cojoin the three elements. In another embodiment, a second impeller is mounted upon the stud adjacent the first impeller with the two impellers being locked to the stud by a common key.
