    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems and methods implemented in a pothole patching system for creating a vacuum that pulls heavy particulate, such as gravel, out of a hopper. For example, according to an embodiment, a vacuum body having a vacuum chamber formed therein is positioned proximate to an opening of the hopper. A moveable slide gate is provided between the vacuum chamber and the opening of the hopper. The slide gate moves between open and closed positions for permitting and blocking communication between the vacuum chamber and the hopper. A reduction nozzle is provided between an air source and the vacuum chamber. Forced air flows from the air source, through the reduction nozzle, and into the vacuum chamber. The reduction nozzle reduces the pressure of the forced air entering the vacuum chamber, and thereby creates a vacuum in the vacuum chamber. When the slide gate is in the open position, this vacuum pulls particulate from the hopper.

    Abstract: High performance, multiple rotor, hydraulically driven riding trowels for finishing concrete have unloader valve circuitry for controlling hydraulic pressure. Each trowel has a rigid frame with two or more downwardly-projecting, bladed rotor assemblies that finish concrete. The rotor assemblies are tilted manually or hydraulically to effectuate steering and control. Blade pitch is controlled manually or hydraulically. The unloader valve system monitors drive pump pressure with a shuttle valve to derive an unloader pilot signal. A sequence valve responds to the unloader pilot signal to control a pressure valve that bypasses the normal foot control valve in an overpressure situation. The pressure control head signal normally applied to the hydraulic drive motor control heads is modified with a feedback signal to automatically control the associated pump swash plates. A gearbox may be disposed between the drive motors and rotors. Piston type and gear and vane type motors may power the rotors.

Controls permit the rate of flow of each individual component to be selectively varied in order to change the recipe for the mixture and to provide calibration of the component, while a master control will maintain the pre-established flow rates through a variable speed of operation.

The apparatus may also have a seat coupled to one of the channels; and a blocking element coupled to the other of the channels. Upon sliding the first channel with respect to the second channel, the blocking element contacts the seat, thereby impeding the flow of pavement rejuvenation materials flowing through the channels.

    Abstract: A method for bonding together an existing substrate layer and a pavement layer, such that a strong adhesive bond is formed by using a tack coat, provided by an asphalt emulsion, in between the layers as the bond coat. The tack coat layer is a low-tracking coating which cures quickly such that the pavement layer may be applied to the substrate, hours to days after the emulsion is applied to the substrate. The asphalt emulsion comprises at least a first phase of from about 30% to about 70% of an asphalt composition, about 30% to about 70% water, and about 0.1% to about 3.0% emulsifying agent, stabilizer and/or additives, or 0.1% to about 30% if polymeric or other additives are also included.

    Abstract: A mobile asphalt production machine mixes bituminous concrete at the job site through a mixing auger mechanism mounted in an insulated housing. Propane burners provide heat within the mixing auger mechanism and within the insulated housing to produce a hot-mix bituminous concrete in large or small batches. The components of the asphalt mixture are stored in separate bins that can be re-filled at the job site to provide a continuous supply of asphalt. Hot liquid bitumen is added to heated aggregate within the mixing auger mechanism. Recycled asphalt can be added through a port in the mixing auger for incorporation into the mixture. Controls permit the rate of flow of each individual component to be selectively varied in order to change the recipe for the mixture and to provide calibration of the component, while a master control will maintain the pre-established flow rates through a variable speed of operation.

We thus disclose a strike off beam with spreader plow assembly which can be removably attached to either side of a placer/spreader to avoid the necessity of relocating the receiving conveyor when the location of the access road changes from one side to the other or direction of spreading changes.

    Abstract: A walkway extension assembly for a paving machine has main and laterally extendable and retractable screeds and a transversely extending rear catwalk or walkway. The assembly has a laterally extending walkway component extending beneath and on each side of the existing walkway. Channel members are attached to and extend downwardly from bottom surfaces of the existing walkway. The lateral walkway components are positioned beneath the existing walkway on these channel members, and are slideably extendable, laterally and outward from the existing walkway. Brackets are attached between the ends of the walkway components and the sidewalls of the lateral screeds. By this configuration, when the lateral screeds are extended from beneath the paving machine, the lateral walkway components, moving in tandem with the screeds, are also extended. Workers are thus able to stand on the walkway components, outboard of the paving machine itself, to observe the lateral paving operations.
