A capsule containing a resin component and a catalyst component and the other end of the anchor are positioned in a bore hole in a mine roof, mine wall, side of a hill, concrete wall, or concrete floor. The threaded end of the nut contacts the insert and rotation of the nut rotates the anchor, breaking the capsule and mixing the components. After the components set, increased torque is applied to fracture the insert and move the nut up the threaded end of the shaft against roof stabilizing components on the shaft.

Abstract: An anchor system for securing a cable within the ground. The system includes a body having a tapered cap and an internal cylindrical slot provided therethrough. A driving rod having an end with a smaller diameter is provided through the slot so that the driving rod extends from the body of the anchor system. The body is provided with a catch through which a line is secured. The driving rod is utilized to drive the anchor system into the ground. As the driving rod extends from the body, the driving rod bears the brunt of the force associated with the driving action, allowing the anchor system to be constructed of a lightweight, inexpensive material. Once the anchor system has been provided at the desired depth, the driving rod is removed and the strap is pulled to set the anchor into place.

Abstract: A roof stabilizer for use in securing surfaces in tunneling and mining is disclosed and claimed. The stabilizer has a tube with a slot and a ring attached to the bottom end of the tube. The ring can have indicia on a bottom surface of the ring or a side surface of the ring or both. The location of the indicia can provide better indication of the properties of the stabilizer to the installer. The indicia is easier to read than that of the background art both before and after installation. The location of the indicia can also provide easer and quicker visual inspection of already installed stabilizers to verify that the proper roof stabilizers were installed. The location of the indicia lessens the likelihood that corrosion will remove the indicia making it unidentifiable. The stabilizer disclosed and claimed also allows the use of grout or an adhesive in the interior of the tube which does not cover up or conceal the indicia on the ring as opposed to indicia in the background art stabilizers.

Abstract: An anchor includes a rotatable anchor rod an anchor plate and an anchor nut. The screw thread in the anchor nut matches the screw thread of the anchor rod only over part of the screw thread hole. Thus the anchor nut can only be screwed some way further onto the anchor rod, and up to a predetermined torque can be used for rotating the anchor rod during placement of the anchor. As soon as the anchor rod is firmly seated in the drill hole, as a result of the action of adhesive, mortar or expansion or spreading, the anchor rod forms a through-thread in the screw thread hole when the anchor nut is rotated relative to the anchor rod, and consequently the anchor nut can finally be screwed onto the anchor rod until it affixes the anchor plate in its final position to the ground.
