  • Patent number: 5807033
Abstract: The present invention is an improved loose tenon joint with multiple arculate mortise surfaces and similarly configured loose tenon member for woodworking applications. A jig is provided arranged to be secured to a workpiece where the jig axially guides a drill bit for boring a series of adjoining holes forming a mortise. The first jig embodiment manipulates a slidable guide bar maintaining longitudinally spaced drill guide holes and two index holes. A hand held drill is used to bore a series of holes (fixtured by the drill guide holes) into the workpiece. A second series of holes are bored (completing the mortise) after the drill guide is translated and secured to the second index hole. A second embodiment is provided including a stationary jig body arranged to be secured to a workpiece. An elongated opening in the jig body supports a drill guide with longitudinally spaced drill guide holes. A hand held drill is used to bore a series of holes (fixtured by the drill guide holes) into the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5775856
Abstract: The present invention is a jig which allows drilling sites to be located on a workpiece by the user simply locating the lengthwise points along the edge of the workpiece. The jig then marks the offset distance of the drilling site away from the longitudinal axis of the workpiece without the user having to make a secondary measurement to locate the point. The drilling site may be marked by a punch or a scribe at this point or the hole may actually be drilled using a drill bit. The jig contains an appropriate guide for assuring that the mark or the hole is centered at the precise location. The drill jig additionally allows holes to be drilled at angles in a face or along the edge of the workpiece using a vee block accessory. This vee block accessory allows holes to be located along the length of a workpiece lacking a planar face, such as a dowel. The vee in the block cradles the workpiece along its length so that a consistent longitudinal axis is defined.

  • Patent number: 5102270
Abstract: A drill press clamp having a collar which may be removably and adjustably mounted on the column of a drill press. A first arm is pivotally connected to the collar at a first end, with the second free end of the first arm pivotally mounting a second arm at a first end of the second arm. The free second end of the second arm includes a screw extending therethrough which may be employed as a clamp to secure a work piece between the drill press table and the second end of the second arm. The pivotal arrangement of the arms allows the clamp at the end thereof to be located at any point above the table. Additionally, the collar may be located at different positions along the column, to allow for work pieces of different sizes. The device may be adapted for use on a standard work table, without a drill press. The present invention also includes the use of clamp blocks having various contours cut therein.

  • Patent number: 5069093
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing metal from a workpiece so as to form an incomplete hole therein is disclosed. The tool includes a shank having a plurality of cutting inserts adjustably attached to one end thereof. The cutting inserts are axially spaced apart from one another along the tool shank by a predetermined distance which is greater than the thickness of the workpiece. The first cutting insert functions as a drill or end mill to form a rough incomplete hole through the workpiece, while the second cutting insert functions as a boring tool to finish the incomplete hole. An opposite end of the tool shank is retained within a bore formed in a tool holder. The tool holder is supported within a conventional rotational means, such as a lathe. Both the opposite end of the tool shank and the bore formed in the tool holder are formed eccentrically to provide maximum flexibility in adjusting the rotational axis of the cutting inserts and, therefore, the diameter of the incomplete hole being formed.

Abstract: A hand tool useful in forming a pocket mortise in the surface of a workpiece proximate an edge of the workpiece. The hand tool includes a clamping assembly for releasably clamping the tool to the workpiece, and a router carried by the clamp assembly and mounted for manual displacement toward the workpiece edge at an incline to progressively cut deeper into the workpiece and form an inclined pocket mortise. The hand tool also preferably carries a drill bit guide on the clamp assembly which is formed to receive and guide a drill bit from a hand drill for drilling a bore from the workpiece edge to the mortise. A method of forming a pocket mortise including the steps of clamping the clamp assembly with a movable router to a workpiece, routing the pocket mortise and then drilling a hole to the pocket mortise from the edge of the workpiece by a hand drill also is described.

A cutting head assembly is rotated as it is forced into the interior of a joint of casing. The cutting head assembly includes a mandrel which turns a special cutting device having a plurality of cutters for engaging and cutting the inner wall of the pipe as the entire cutterhead is forced to travel through the pipe. Alignment members attached to the mandrel on either side of the cutting device maintain the longitudinal axis of the cutters in proper alignment to produce the desired new pipe inside diameter.
