  • Patent number: 4856503
Abstract: Given is a device for cutting a thread in a cup-shaped bone, in particular in the acetabulum of a human pelvis bone, which includes a cutter holder on a drive shaft, with a radially, outwardly directed cutting blade being disposed on the cutter holder. In order to cut, in simple fashion, a correctly dimensioned threading into the bone tissue with a desired depth of cut, the device includes a cutter gauge capable of being fixed in the cup space, with the cutter gauge having a central boring and an open cutting channel running spirally about the longitudinal axis of the boring. The cutter holder is capable of being introduced centrally into the boring of the cutter gauge and is capable of being set into a forcefully guided, spiral cutting movement with introduction of the blade into the cutting channel, during the course of which the cutting blade cuts the thread precisely in the bone tissue.

  • Patent number: 4822216
Abstract: Improved apparatus for threading a longitudinally divided partial hole in a machine component has a tap driving spindle selectively and reciprocally carried by a frame. On a base plate is a positioning means for holding the component in a predetermined relationship with the frame and locater means for accurately aligning the component with the tap driving spindle. A movable guide shoe that is operable in combination with the locater means opposes the partial hole to be threaded and forms temporarily an opposed partial hole that accurately guides the tap. Adjustment and retainer means are used for selective positioning of the guide shoe in relation to the tap guide hole.

  • Patent number: 4759245
Abstract: The invention refers to a tool assembly for cuttingly machining of an at least partially closed inner surface of a workpiece, e.g. a bore. It comprises an essentially rod-shaped tool support having a machining tool mounted on its end and which is adapted to be inserted into the cavity to be machined. The tool support comprises a rod member with a continuous opening extending in axial direction and with parallel supporting surfaces arranged in the region of the both ends and extending with an angle to the longitudinal axis of the rod member. A machining tool supporting member having a machining tool mounted at one end is slidably mounted at one end of the rod member and rests against the first supporting surfaces of the rod member. A control member is slidably mounted at the other end of the rod member perpendicularly to the axis of the tool support and resting on the second supporting surface, serving for the pushing-out and retiring of the tool supporting member.

  • Patent number: 4758121
Abstract: A boring machine which is portable for field use and which is self-chucking and self-centering and has the capability of performing precision machining operations under computer control. The machining operations include pipe boring and internal threading. The boring machine has a chuck with relatively movable components including radially extendable blades for engagement with the interior of a pipe wall. A tool head is mounted for axial movement on a tubular drive shaft which is rotatably supported in cantilever fashion by the chuck. The actuation of the chuck and rotation of the drive shaft are derived from hydraulic means on the chuck within the interior of the pipe and connected to external fluid circuitry through stationary manifolds and fluid passages formed in the wall of the tubular drive shaft. The tool head is moved axially of the drive shaft by a lead screw rotatably driven by a servomotor and a tool slide is radially movable on the tool head by a second servomotor.

  • Patent number: 4652186
Abstract: A portable boring machine for boring bearing housings in situ includes a pair of spaced apart mounting members for adjustably positioning a boring bar within a row of bearing housings. The spaced apart mounting members are removably positionable on the boring bar and permit rotation of the boring bar with respect to the housings. The mounting members include radially adjustable jaws which enable the space between the boring bar and an adjacent bearing housing to be adjusted by the user in order to adjust the position of the boring bar within the housing and to vary the inclination of the boring bar with respect to the row of housings to be reconditioned. In this way the user has complete control between the relative positions of the boring bar and the bedplate. Moreover, since the support members are removably positionable on the boring bar they may be adjusted in position with respect to the particular housing to be bored.

  • Patent number: 4626142
Abstract: A drilling machine operable by a single operator to tap into a pipeline includes an elongated boring bar to which a number of different tools such as drills and hole saws may be removably attached. The boring bar is positioned within a body tube allowing rotation of the boring bar relative to the body tube. The body tube is positioned within an internally threaded feed tube such that as the feed tube is rotated, the boring bar is advanced. Manual or automatic driving equipment is secured to the boring bar to rotate the tool. A clutch mechanically couples the rotation of the driving equipment to the feed tube to move the tool into the pipeline at a controlled rate. The clutch includes a feed nut threadably secured to the feed tube. Adjacent the feed nut is a clutch member slideably secured to the feed tube. A biasing member such as a wave spring is position between the feed nut and the clutch member.

  • Patent number: 4147462
Abstract: A valve-seat cutting machine having a vertically movable support structure with a vertically elongated spindle assembly mounted thereon. The spindle assembly includes an elongated pilot adapted to be axially inserted into a bore formed in an engine block. A cutting tool is rotatably positioned in surrounding relationship to the pilot rod and is driven from a substantially coaxially aligned driving sleeve, which sleeve is connected to the tool by an intermediate coupling which permits substantially universal movement so that the tool can undergo angular and/or lateral misalignment relative to the rotational axis of the driving sleeve. The pilot rod, which moves angularly or laterally with the cutting tool, is also connected by a similar joint structure to an actuator which permits the pilot rod to be slidably moved relative to the cutting tool. A compression transmitting structure extends through the latter-mentioned joint structure to permit a pushing force to be imposed on the pilot rod.
