The automatic milling apparatus is installed to form welding grooves on the both sides of the objects to be welded, in the case where a welding is performed on a three-dimensional curved surface. A guide roller having a handle is installed to control the machining depth of the grooves, and an idling type nylon guide roller is installed in closed contact with the shaft of a cutter, thereby adjusting the distance between the rail and the groove, and adjusting the deviations of the depth of the grooves, which are caused by the machining inaccuracies due to the deviations of the three-dimensional curvature.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a workpiece or chair mat with cleats on the underside thereof, and with a marginal peripheral area void of cleats, and for trimming the edge of a generally planar workpiece. A rotatable work table is provided for positioning the workpiece. A router head includes an inclined router blade engageable with the edge of the workpiece to form a beveled ramp edge thereabout. A template is positioned between the workpiece and the work table, and the router head has a cam follower engageable with and movable along the edge of the template for guiding the router blade along the edge of the workpiece during rotation of the work table. A cooling medium is directed toward the area of engagement between the router blade and the edge of the workpiece. The depth of cut is controlled by a cam disk mounted on the bottom of the router head engageable with the top of the workpiece.

    Abstract: A semi-automatic track drill for use in drilling fastener holes for an aircraft body includes a pair of generally spaced, parallel rails. A plurality of slider bars extend between the rails and are connected thereto in a manner so that each bar can be slid along the length of the rails. Positioned between at least two of the bars is a drill carriage which is also slidably connected to the rails. A template having a series of alternating lands and grooves registers the carriage at preselected drilling positions. The drill assembly, including the template, is secured to the aircraft body by temporary clamping bolts which are positioned in a line along the body's surface.

    Abstract: A cutting tool guide device fits within a window frame in a vertically mounted position. The device guides a cutting tool, such as a router, along the X,Y, and Z coordinates. Simultaneous movement along the X and Y coordinates parallel to the window is possible by means of vertical and horizontal controls which allows any angle or curves to be followed. Measured adjustment along the Z coordinate, perpendicular to the window, is provided by a screw threaded router tool casing mounted in a collar with external measured detentes contacted by a spring loaded ball. Rotary movement of the router is restrained by a slot in the router receiving a-pin. Great precision is obtained in removing glazing from a window sash and in cutting into the rabbit joint of the sash. The cutting allows double pane glass to be inserted into the sash. The cutting tool guide device is adjustable to fit into various sized window frames.

    Abstract: An improved portable milling machine adapted to grip a work piece and to cut a keyway through a clamping area. This is accomplished without releasing the grip of the milling machine on the work piece by forming an elongated slot in a bed plate with lands lying at opposite sides of the elongated slot. A clamp plate is arranged in stacked alignment with said lands and a work piece is gripped between the clamp plate and the lands of the bed plate. This structure permits a cutting element to pass through the elongated slot to cut a keyway upon the work piece while said work piece is gripped, the cutting action being performed through the clamped area. Improvements include interchangeable spindle construction allowing the use of a variety of cutter elements.

    Abstract: A portable router for cutting slots in a cabinet door to receive wings of hinges includes a router motor and spindle mounted on a slide which moves back and forth on a frame. The latter rests on the door when cutting each slot and is located on the door by a selected one of two guides. The latter are disposed on opposite sides of the spindle and project down beneath the frame into an active position but may be pushed up to a retracted or inactive position. One guide is adapted to engage one end of the door and its spacing from the spindle is correlated with the desired spacing between that end and the adjacent slot. Similarly, the other guide is adapted to engage the other end of the door and locates the spindle for cutting the slot near that end. As the frame is lowered onto the door, the latter engages the inactive guide which thereby is pushed up to its retracted position and the guide drops by gravity to its active position as the router is lifted off the door.
