With Work Supported Guide Means Patents (Class 409/178)
  • Patent number: 4601619
Abstract: Improved apparatus for routing a groove in the surface of a panel of material. The apparatus includes a base, a first elongate horizontally oriented support arm having one end pivotally attached to the base and having another end pivotally attached to one end of a second elongate horizontally oriented support arm. A milling head is mounted on the other end of the second elongate support arm. The pivotally interconnected support arm pair permit the milling head to be laterally displaced in an infinite number of directions. The application of an upward or downward force on the milling head causes resilient flexure of the support arm pair, the flexure permitting the upward or downward displacement of the milling head and of a tool bit rotatably carried in the milling head. The apparatus utilizes the resilient flexure of the horizontally disposed support arm pair to insure that a groove of constant depth is routed in the surface of a panel of material.

  • Patent number: 4599018
Abstract: A pair of support members and a pair of drilling units are mounted for reciprocal movement along a carriage. The support members secure to latch bolts on an elongated surface to be drilled. The drill units move along the carriage in both an X and Y direction to automatically drill holes in the surface. The drill units are then secured to latch bolts and the carriage with support members advanced on rollers located in the support members. The support members are secured to the next latch bolts and the process continued until holes are drilled throughout the length of the surface to be drilled.

  • Patent number: 4501308
Abstract: The following specification sets forth a hinge template guide. The hinge template guide facilitates routing of a door jam or frame by means of a router within a prescribed pattern formed by the template. The template has an opening therein for moving the router over the door frame or jam in a prescribed manner so as to cut an opening within the jam for mounting a hinge. The template guide is supported by means of sharpened pins which are driven into the door jam on a temporary basis and are removed by pivotal lever arms mounted on a bracket that are spring biased and journaled for removal of the pins by a levered removal thereof. The entire template is adjustable with regard to the dimensions that are to be cut by means of a rotatable adjustment means for providing the template at a specified margin on the door jam.

  • Patent number: 4382729
Abstract: A depth of cut adjustment mechanism for a portable power planer having an adjustable front shoe whose elevational position controls the depth of cut of the tool. An S-shaped rod is fastened at one end to the adjustable front shoe and is threadedly engaged at its other end to an adjustment nut rotatably mounted in a race formed in the housing. A control knob having disposed thereon a scale referenced to a mark on the housing is secured to the nut so that rotation of the control knob causes a corresponding adjustment in the elevational position of the front shoe. • Patent number: 4324514
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding a small router head along either straight paths or arcs of circles, for cutting sheet metal printing plates to desired outlines. The operator may guide the router over the same path several times, successively increasing the depth of cut until it is cut through. In the preferred form for cutting along straight lines, a guide rod is supported between two offset heads that attach to the work by suction cups. A short square-section mounting bar rides in a ball bushing along the guide rod. A router head assembly clamps detachably to the bar. For cutting arcs of circles a pair of radius rods is carried adjustably in a rotatable center head that attaches to the workpiece with a suction cup. A second mounting bar connects the free ends of the radius rods; the same router assembly may be detached and clamped to this bar.

  • Patent number: 4251174
Abstract: A roller hold down is designed to restrain parts being cut from a stack of flat sheets. The roller hold down eliminates the need for secondary fastening means to restrain the parts during the cutting operation. The parts are restrained in position on a flat worktable by a pair of cylindrical rollers adjacent the cutter which force the parts against the table. • Patent number: 4202388
Abstract: The invention disclosed includes locator pins for positioning in the cover plate mounting holes of an electrical outlet or switch box to pierce a wall or ceiling covering panel when positioned over the box. A cutter spacer is placed in a predetermined position relative to the locator pins and attached to the panel. A cutter locator ring is positioned over the cutter spacer and a cutter guide is positioned over the locator ring and attached to the panel. The cutter guide locator ring is then removed to allow a cutter to be positioned between the cutter spacer and the cutter guide to make a cut around the inside of the cutter guide. As the cut is being made, the cutter is guided by the inside surface of the cutter guide while the cutter is held by the cutter spacer to limit the depth of cut of the cutter and to prevent the cutter from moving inwardly with the panel after the access opening has been cut in the panel.
