Abstract: A spindlehead for a horizontal boring machine is disclosed. Included is a spindle sleeve mounted to a spindlehead casing for axial displacement out of and into the casing. A spindle is rotatably mounted within the spindle sleeve for joint axial displacement therewith. A spindle drive motor is geared to the spindle in order to drive the same for required boring or like operation. Another motor is employed for feeding the spindle into work along with the spindle sleeve and the spindle drive motor. Being fed with the spindle sleeve, the spindle is thereby rigidly supported even when extended out of the casing.
Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning the inside of a metallurgical vessel including an inclined foundation and ways on the inclined foundation to support the carriage of a mobile cleaning device. The mobile cleaning device has a carriage which moves along the ways on said inclined foundation. The mobile cleaning device has a pivotally mounted boom with a rotary shaft having a cutting head mounted on its end and bits on the cutting head. A support stand is located adjacent the upper end of the inclined foundation for holding a metallurgical vessel in a stationary position during cleaning.
Abstract: A boring machine which is portable for field use and which is self-chucking and self-centering and has the capability of performing precision machining operations under computer control. The machining operations include pipe boring and internal threading. The boring machine has a chuck with relatively movable components including radially extendable blades for engagement with the interior of a pipe wall. A tool head is mounted for axial movement on a tubular drive shaft which is rotatably supported in cantilever fashion by the chuck. The actuation of the chuck and rotation of the drive shaft are derived from hydraulic means on the chuck within the interior of the pipe and connected to external fluid circuitry through stationary manifolds and fluid passages formed in the wall of the tubular drive shaft. The tool head is moved axially of the drive shaft by a lead screw rotatably driven by a servomotor and a tool slide is radially movable on the tool head by a second servomotor.
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for use in reshaping the gate of a metal mould for plastic injection moulding. A device A for reshaping the gate recess 7 of a metal injection mould 3 for plastics injection moulding when the recess has become worn comprises a cylinder 9 containing a body 10 which is biased by a spring 15. A cutting tool 13, 13a is mounted on the front of the body 10 and is shaped to re-cut the recess 7 to the required shape. A pin 14 on the tool 13 fits in the gate 6 to centralize the tool 13. A plate 17 with a recess 16 to receive the tip of an injection nozzle 5 is rotatably mounted on the rear end of the cylinder 9 and holds the rear of the device A centered. In operation the cylinder 9 is rotated manually and turns the body 10 and the tool 13 with it owing to the keyway 11 and screw 12 forming a key.
Abstract: A support bracket and guide assembly is employed with a multiple spindle head or other milling device to be mounted on a milling machine. A support bracket mounted on the horizontal dovetail ways of the machine holds a guide plate in which a vertical guide bar is slidably disposed. A slider mounted at the foot of the guide bar rides on an arcuate horseshoe member whose center is positioned at the axis of the device input shaft. The slider is tightened on the horseshoe member at a desired angle.
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for machining a joint element for steel tubes, intended in particular for the petroleum industry, containing a truncated surface (2) and at least one screw stop.
Abstract: A router with a revolving spindle having a cutter on the end has a housing supported by a face plate. The face plate is coupled to the housing via a pair of articulated joints, which may be adjusted to a selected one of many possible angles relating the supporting plane of the face plate with the axis of the spindle. The face plate contains a relatively large hole through which the spindle projects with said cutter being positioned beyond the supporting plane, so that the cutter may be seen during normal operation. A protractor scale is engraved on at least one of the articulated joint parts to identify a cutting angle. In another embodiment, a plurality of click stops are provided on one of the articulated joint parts for accurately setting a selected one of several angles to which the joint may be moved.

Abstract: A cam operated machining unit for use in providing principally, either, a drilling, reaming, counterboring, trepanning or threading function, upon another component being machined, the unit includes a spindle rotatably supported within a quill, with the spindle having the tool held therein, with the combination of the spindle and quill being disposed for longitudinal shifting, especially in a rapid approach, a constant feed speed, and then a rapid retraction from its position of performing a machining function upon the component being worked; the composite spindle includes a first gear, and which interconnects by a series of intermediate gears with a cam shaft arranged gear, with the cam shaft holding a cylindrical cam which is intermated with conjugate cam followers, that are fixed upon the quill, all being operatively associated with drive means furnishing the rotational movement for turning of the spindle and its tool, with the intermediate gears translating its rotational force to the cam for inducing the
Abstract: A boring tool particularly useful for cutting counterbores in an engine block includes means for selectively engaging and disengaging an output shaft which is rotated and axially advanced during the cutting operation. Preferably, the selective engaging and disengaging means includes feed threads formed on the output shaft, and a threaded means which is selectively moveable into and out of threaded engagement with the feed threads on the output shaft. Preferably, the boring tool is of the differential-rate type wherein the output shaft is rotated at a first predetermined rotational rate and the threaded means is rotated at a second different predetermined rotational rate. The differential rotational rate establishes the advancement rate of the output shaft. The position of the output shaft and the cutter element it carries can be readily adjusted without necessity of operating the boring tool to establish the cutter position.

Abstract: A link is pivotally connected at one end to the collar which is clampingly engaged with the quill of a machine tool. The other end of the link is pivotally connected to one end of a lever arm. At an intermediate point, the lever arm is engagable with a conventional sensitive drill adapter held in accordance with conventional practice by the machine tool. The drill adapter is reciprocally movable in response to movement of the lever arm.
Abstract: A milling machine includes a C-shaped frame, tool support member movable in a vertical direction, a saddle member movable in a transverse direction, a work table movable in a longitudinal direction, a tool drive unit and two oppositely positioned and removable bearing ways associated with each direction of travel. For the vertical axis the bearing ways are between the C-shaped frame and the tool support member. The tool drive unit includes a hollow tool spindle and a drive motor with a vertically extending hollow output shaft which is rigidly and coaxially connected to the hollow tool spindle. Each vertical axis bearing way longitudinally extends in a vertical direction and includes an outer race portion attached to the C-shaped frame and a ball circulating track portion attached to the tool support member.
Abstract: A router assembly including a router sub-assembly vertically adjustable relative to a supportive base plate through the utilization of a sub-assembly supported rack gear and a pinion gear meshed with the rack gear and journaled from the base. The base includes a handle portion for horizontal directional control of the router assembly during routing operations and oscillatably supported from the base. Connecting structure operatively connects the handle portion and the pinion gear for oscillation of the latter in response to oscillation of the former, whereby adjustable oscillation of the handle will be effective to vertically adjust the router sub-assembly relative to the base plate.
