With Limit Means To Aid In Positioning Of Cutter Bit Or Work (e.g., Gauge, Stop, Etc.) Patents (Class 409/218)
  • Patent number: 4786221
Abstract: An improved quick release chuck mechanism is disclosed mountable on a spindle for releasably holding a tool or the like. The chuck mechanism comprises a body member having an end surface. A tool insert having a shoulder is supported by the body member. The end surface is provided with an adjustment for varying the position of the end surface for achieving a predetermined end surface position while mounted on the spindle. The tool insert is releasably held in the body member by an improved locking mechanism that positively forces the shoulder into engagement with the end surface. The improved chuck mechanisms, when mounted on multiple head spindles, provide a method for compensating for tolerance differences that exist between the spindles to achieve identical predetermined end surface positions for the spindles.

Abstract: The present disclosure teaches a process and related apparatus for longitudinal adjustment of tools for individual working spindles of a multiple-spindle automatically controlled machine tool. The tools introduced into the working spindles in the direction of their lengths to be adjusted are run in rapid advance in all cases against a measuring device which, on reaching a predetermined distance from the working part reference point, produces a first signal in which the rapid advances of the working spindles are switched off individually. The first signal from the measuring device finally reached by the tool involved switches on crawling speeds for all working spindles. The spindles are switched off individually on reaching the working-part reference points in all cases by a second signal from the measuring devices.

  • Patent number: 4322990
Abstract: A device in the form of a split clamp star wheel adapted to be clamped on the spindle carrier extension of a multiple spindle automatic bar machine in a predetermined axial location with respect to the spindle drum face and having at the points of the radiating arms thereof laterally pre-adjusted screws coaxially aligned with the axes of the respective spindles, the holders for the end cutting tools being longitudinally adjustably clamped in the respective end cutting tool slides (or auxiliary slides thereon) when the ends of the respective tools are engaged with the ends of the laterally pre-adjusted screws.

  • Patent number: 4245938
Abstract: A device for controlling and positioning a carriage in a tool machine, in particular the feed carriage on a gear hobbing machine. The device utilizes cams oriented one after the other and which operate a plurality of switches to control the advance of the carriage. The end position of the carriage which is controlled by a control switch is determined by two cam carriages. The first cam carriage is positionable with a rough or coarse adjustment relative to the machine frame and the second cam carriage is finely adjustable relative to the first cam carriage. The cam carriages carry the aforementioned cams to effect a control of the movement of the feed carriage path adjacent the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4208157
Abstract: Snap-on holders adapted to be attached to a head portion of a machine for supporting an indicator include a body member composed of a stiff resilient plastic material and having a pair of spaced-apart prongs adapted to spread apart and to snap into snug-gripping engagement with the head portion of the machine to be supported by and to extend therefrom. The prongs of the body member have a generally semi-circular arcuate surface extending for more than 180.degree. to contact the head portion of the machine through a continuous line of engagement. The body member has a portion extending laterally from the prongs, and an aperture therein is adapted to receive rotatably therein for supporting purposes the indicator. A second snap-on holder is received in snug-gripping engagement with the prongs and is held in place by the head portion of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4185671
Abstract: An accessory is provided for use with routing apparatus to facilitate the routing of arcuate designs in cabinet doors and similar panels. The routing apparatus is of the type in which a router is mounted on the end of a bar for extension over a panel to be routed and in which the router can be moved in any direction in a plane parallel to the panel by reason of the bar being mounted in a carrier for longitudinal movement in one dimension of the panel, and the carrier being mounted for movement parallel to the other dimension of the panel. The accessory comprises a radius arm which may be adjustably connected at one end to the bar and is slidably mounted in a pivot block mounted for movement in the same direction as the carriage. An adjustable stop on the radius arm limits its longitudinal movement and an adjustable stop limits movement of the pivot block whereby the router can be guided in a preselected curved path by causing the radius arm to pivot around the pivot block.

  • Patent number: 4182589
Abstract: A chamfering apparatus for use in machining corner breaks of work pieces and including a base member establishing a horizontal support surface, a guide block mounted on the base member and forming a guide surface substantially normal to the horizontal support surface such that a trim slot is formed about he intersection of the plane of the horizontal support surface and the plane of the frontal vertical guide surface; a circular cutting member having an axis of rotation parallel with the axis of the trim slot positioned about the base member with the outer peripheral edge of the cutting member extending within the trim slot such that the edge of a work piece may be chamfered as it is moved along the trim slot while in abutting relationship to the horizontal support surface and frontal vertical guide surface.
