Cylindrical Article Group Patents (Class 410/42)
  • Patent number: 10857931
Abstract: A bracket for securing a container or an array of co-planarly adjacent containers, such as cylindrical barrels or oil drums to a transport vehicle. Each bracket can include a generally ring-shaped circular, planar body having a diameter sized to substantially match the outer diameter of the circular end of the barrel. Six couplings extend radially outwardly from the peripheral sidewall of the bracket body at angularly evenly spaced apart locations. The axial positions of the couplings can be reciprocatingly staggered so that couplings extending from adjacent brackets can overlap and interconnect to one another, thereby conjoining the brackets across the array. Hooked cables can secure the vehicle to the couplings.

  • Patent number: 8998546
Abstract: A fixture for attachment of an end of a member, such as a wind turbine tower section, blade or hub for a wind turbine characteristically has an end flange. To enable clamping while being able to compensate for different hole patterns in the flanges, by the invention, the fixture provides for retaining of ends of members with flanges, regardless of flange diameter and hole patterns, and which is also quickly and easily installed. Additionally, it is possible to firmly clamp the flange end to upstanding frame parts of the fixture with fastening elements, thereby providing a stable connection between a console of the fixture and the upstanding frame parts.

  • Patent number: 8672594
Abstract: Provided are hauling apparatus, systems, and methods adapted to securely transport on a standard flatbed trailer or other structure a plurality of objects up to several feet across having open center portions and curved outer surfaces and weighing up to thousands of pounds each, such as metal coils. A first apparatus is adapted to be removably attached to a standard flatbed trailer or the like, and includes an abutment structure extending upward from a longitudinally extending base that may include specially angled support structures adapted to securely carry the curved cargo. The abutment structure is connected to a movable abutting apparatus by a tensioner structure that passes through the open center portions of the objects without touching those objects. The objects are then secured to the hauling apparatus by tightening the tensioner structure, which causes the objects to be compressed between the abutment structure and movable abutting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7044699
Abstract: An adjustable load stabilizer secures loads of any size within the width of the track carried in a cargo bed of a truck or SUV and which extend beyond the vehicle tailgate, while not interfering with the operation of the tailgate or cargo bed when permanently installed. The load stabilizer comprises two brackets which are mounted to the vehicle tailgate and which support a traversing track which is offset from the tailgate by 3 inches, mounted parallel to and lower than the top of the tailgate. Two travelling arm carriers move freely along the length of the traversing track, each supporting a collapsible arm. The travelling arm carriers are moved into position to stabilize the extended load and the collapsible arms are then raised. Raising the collapsible arms creates an interference fit with the traversing track thus securing the arms in the upright position. The arms thus prevent the extended load from sliding around the cargo bed during transport.

In this apparatus, the stakes, bunks, bunk pockets, head board and tail board are used to constrain logs on the bed of the truck or trailer. The stakes may be permanently or semi-permanently fixed into a bunk pocket and the stakes constrain the movement of the logs from side to side on the truck or trailer. The head board and tail board are permanently attached to stakes which are correspondingly inserted into pockets welded into the bed of the trailer or truck and are permanently or semi-permanently fixed in the pockets. The head board and tail board constrain the movement of the logs from front to back on the truck or trailer. This systems configuration makes it possible for the logs to be hauled without the addition of safety wrapper chains or straps to secure the load.

  • Patent number: 6592309
Abstract: A new and improved packaging clip comprising alternating upward and downward U-channels for receiving the upstanding flat-edged end boards of industrial-sized textile rolls stacked on a pallet for shipping purposes. The new clip is a single, stamped galvanized metal piece having three distinct U-channels aligned longitudinally and having a common middle support portion. The outer channels are open in a direction opposite that of the middle channel. The outer channels also each receive a single end board. The middle channel receives generally equal amounts of the edges of two end boards placed adjacent to each other on a pallet. The outer channels each receive the edge of one of two adjacently placed end boards, each outer channel being capable of gripping the end board received therein in the event that the fit therein is too loose. This new and improved U-channel packaging clip maintains the alignment of flat-edged end boards stacked 2×2. Each of the channels has rounded corners for safety.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods that can be used for the safe storage and transportation of freight rail wheelsets. The object of this invention is to prevent the direct contact between the roller bearings or axle and the adjacent wheelset flange. To do this at storage sites the application of a roller bearing or axle protector to the present wheelset stacking arrangement is required. During transportation this objective is achieved by (a) applying roller bearing protectors, (b) applying axle protectors, (c) shifting the wheelsets on the wheel transporter so that roller bearing and adjacent wheel flange never come in contact, (d) applying wheelset stoppers and/or axle spacers.

  • Patent number: 6543368
Abstract: A railcar unit has a pair of deep sidewalls and a cradle mounted between the sidewalls for carrying coils. The sidewalls span the distance between the two railcar trucks, and act as a pair of deep beams for carrying vertical loads. The deep sidewalls are arranged to extend above and below the center sill of the cradle and to give vertical stiffness to the car. The center sill is a straight through sill for carrying buff and draft loads between the couplers. The cradle is made from a set of cross bearers welded to the center sill to form a series of segmented beams, covered by plating. The cross bearers are welded to the sidewalls at lap joints. The cross bearers are all of the same design and can be made from a rolled beam. The sidewalls have their deepest section at mid-span, and are tapered to a thinner section toward the end structure of the cars. The tapering includes provision of an access way between the railcar truck wheels and the sidewall to permit brake maintenance.
