  • Patent number: 10213312
Abstract: During hip replacement surgery, a practitioner can attach a distal stem to a femur of the patient and can then fixedly attach a proximal body to the distal stem using a bolt. Prior to tightening, the bolt can be heated to an elevated temperature greater than average human core body temperature. The practitioner can tighten the bolt to a specified torque while the bolt is at the elevated temperature. After tightening, the bolt cools to average human core body temperature and experiences a tensile stress due to the effects of thermal expansion. The tensile stress in the bolt produces a compressive force between the distal stem and the proximal body. The compressive force can increase the attachment strength of the bolt to the distal stem and the proximal body, beyond what can be achieved by solely torquing the bolt to the specified level during surgery without first heating the bolt.

The adapters include one of a variety of connectors for attaching one end of the fan blades to the support arm. The one end of the fan blade is configured and adapted, or otherwise provided with mating connector elements adapted to engage the connectors of the adapters, thereby allowing the fan blades to be removably attached to the adapters. A second embodiment of the interchangeable fan blade system is a set of interchangeable fan blades having a plurality of elongated attachment apertures which allow the fan blades to be secured to virtually any type of fan arm, by threading a plurality of shoulder cap screws and a plurality of male-female connectors though the plurality of attachment apertures.

  • Patent number: 5816759
Abstract: An expansion anchor installable in a pre-drilled hole formed in a base material. The expansion anchor includes a bolt having a shaft with a head portion, an opposing end portion, and a threaded portion. A shoulder is disposed on the shaft intermediate the head portion and the end portion thereof, and an expandable sleeve is disposed about the shaft between the shoulder and the end portion of the shaft. The expandable sleeve has an expandable upper sleeve portion and an expandable lower sleeve portion wherein the expandable lower sleeve portion is expandable outwardly before the expandable upper sleeve portion is expandable outwardly. A nut having a substantially conical surface is fixed rotationally in the pre-drilled hole and is engagable with the threaded portion of the shaft. The substantially conical surface of the nut is engageable with the expandable lower sleeve portion so as to expand the lower sleeve portion until the nut is axially fixed in the pre-drilled hole.

  • Patent number: 5813808
Abstract: A forward and reverse expanding type expansion screw has a bolt, a nut, a forward expanding plug, a retaining tapered ring, and a backward expanding plug. By inserting the bolt through the forward expanding plug, the retaining tapered ring and the reverse expanding plug in order, the expansion screw can be inserted into a wall hole, the bolt can be driven to lock to the nut, the reverse expanding plug first expanding in the reverse direction by a pushing effect caused by the retaining tapered ring, and then the forward expanding plug is pushed forward and expanded in the forward direction. By expanding in opposite directions a cross expanding and squeezing effect is achieved to provide a very stable securing effect. A two-way sleeve and connecting sleeves may be further connected to provide fixed points for the expansion of the plugs and to extend the length of the expansion screw to meet different requirements.

  • Patent number: 5779410
Abstract: A fastening plug for mounting furniture hardware having an expandable sleeve into which an elongated shaft of an expander enters, the shaft having a head for rotating the expander relative to the sleeve. The elongated shaft of the expander has multiple expansion sections along the length of the shaft and which taper in the direction of the protruding end of the shaft. The central bore of the sleeve which receives the elongated shaft of the expander, is shaped so as to complement the shaft, and the position of the complementary, tapering expansion sections of the shaft is varied relative to the complementary tapered central bore sections in the sleeve when the expander is rotated relative to the expansion sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5743061
Abstract: A wall anchor having a first inclined plane secured to a second inclined plane by a connector. The connector is resilient to allow the inclined planes to move relative to one another. The inclined planes are oriented opposite one another, in a manner which increases their combined height as the inclined planes slide in a first direction relative to one another, and which decreases their combined height as the inclined planes slide in a second direction relative to one another. A retainer is secured to the first inclined plane and is used to insert the inclined planes into a hole in a wall. After the inclined planes have been inserted, the retainer is withdrawn slightly, which causes the inclined planes to slide relative to one another and increase their combined height to wedge the inclined planes against an interior surface of the hole. In this manner, a retainer may be securely and manually anchored to a wall.

Abstract: A plurality of anchoring members are threaded onto the shaft of the fastener. These anchoring members include an annular body and a spacer. The anchoring members are held between an abutment of the shaft and a locking section thereof fixed against an axial displacement thereon. The anchoring members are present as structural members which are separate from the shaft and are merely threaded onto the shaft. It is accordingly possible to use a large number of variously designed anchoring members together with only one shape of the shaft, which reduces considerably the costs of the production and increases the universality of the fastener. Specifically the shaft and the anchoring members may be made of a metal such that the fastener can display in comparison with plastic fasteners a much higher rigidity.
