Identical Segments Patents (Class 411/33)
  • Patent number: 5224806
Abstract: A self-retaining adjustable diameter bolt assembly including a bolt having a head, a shank, and a threaded end adapted to be inserted into aligned holes in a pair of abutting panels for subsequent coupling to a nut on the blind side of the panels. The bolt includes a pawl engaging one side of the panel in which the bolt is inserted with the head thereof on the opposite side of the panels. A plurality of bushing segments are mounted on the bolt shank, the pawl extending through an opening in the segment adjacent the threaded end of the bolt shank. A nut, having a skirt portion, is threaded onto the threaded end driving the segments forward and filling the spacing between the holes and the bolt shank. The skirt portion of the nut overlies the pawl and protects the same. The nut can be fully torqued to cause complete radial expansion of the bushing segments in the aligned panel holes before bottoming out against the panels.

  • Patent number: 5203647
Abstract: An anchor for securing a mine roof bolt within a hole preformed within a rock strata. The anchor comprises a plurality of transversely bent plastic leaves, each having an aperture through which the roof bolt is received, a support nut threadably connected to the bolt for supporting the plastic leaves, a stirrup supported on the support nut and on which the leaves are rested and a bifurcated compression nut having a biasing member threadably connected to the roof bolt and a horizontal member slidably connected to the bolt below the biasing member and above the leaves for compressing the leaves against the stirrup responsive to the rotation of the roof bolt in a selected direction. • Patent number: 4644444
Abstract: Heat dissipation from electronic modules is improved by clamping their edges against heat-conducting fins in a housing by means of two expanding jackscrews. Each jackscrew has a shaft mounted in bearings in the module and carries a row of alternate closed rings and split rings. The closed rings are smaller in diameter than the split rings and have a circular section. The split rings are of tubular shape, having ends of circular section which engage the closed rings. The forward end of the shaft is screw-threaded to engage a fixed nut in the housing. When the shaft is screwed into the fixed nut, it pulls a connector on the module into engagement with a cooperating connector in the housing. At the same time, the closed rings are forced against the split rings, causing them to expand radially and exert a clamping force against the edges of the modules, forcing them into thermal contact with the fins in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4626139
Abstract: A mine roof bolt expansion anchor utilizes a plurality of transversely bent elongated leaves which are compressed within a bail by the rotation of the roof bolt. The compression results in movement of the leaves toward a flattened position whereby the outer edges of the leaves engage the bore hole walls to anchor the bolt. Downwardly extending flanges on each end of the leaves increase the bearing surface which engages the bore hole wall, while spacers near the center of the leaves act as a spine to evenly distribute the compression to all the leaves so that they all engage the bore hole wall simultaneously and with the same pressure.

Each of the tongues has a radially directed projection in the unexpanded position with the projection having a dimension transverse to the axial direction of the sleeve greater than the sleeve thickness. To provide an anchoring effect, the tongues can be displaced radially outwardly from the sleeve by an expanding member movable through the borehole formed by the sleeve. In the radially outwardly pivoted position the tongues interlock. Webs connected to the tongues provide an articulated connection between the tongue and the sleeve. The pivot axis formed by the webs extend normal to the axis of the sleeve.
