Washer Carried Pawl Patents (Class 411/330)
  • Patent number: 10323678
Abstract: A fastener assembly is provided and includes a fastener member and a washer member. The fastener member includes an end, an opposing head, and an elongated threaded body portion extending therebetween. The threaded body defines a center axis. The head includes a pawl arm having a pawl tooth and a flange. The washer member includes an axial aperture formed therethrough and a lock tab extending therefrom. The lock tab is configured to be received within a recess defined in a substrate member to rotationally fix the washer member relative to the substrate member. The washer member further includes a plurality of lock teeth. The pawl tooth is configured to intermesh with the lock teeth to allow rotation of the fastener member relative to the washer member in a first direction about the center axis, and substantially prevent rotation in an opposite second direction about the center axis.

  • Patent number: 9683596
Abstract: A nut fastener is provided for locking the nut to prevent inadvertent loosening of the nut. The nut fastener is particularly useful for tightening a wheel onto an axle. The nut fastener includes a nut, a collar and a retaining ring. The nut is unlocked by pushing on an engagement surface of the collar or by riding ratchet teeth over each other. When the collar is released, the collar locks against the nut to resist rotation of the nut.

Abstract: A jackscrew nut and/or bolt head assembly includes a load washer that may be selectively engaged via the jackscrews. Spherical faces at the washer top are held in alignment with corresponding spherical jackscrew bottoms via axially interlocking pins. The pins may partially extend radial beyond the circumference of the main body of the nut and/or bolt head thereby defining ridges of an outside tool access profile. The assembly may be initially tightened via a primary torque induced onto the pins and the main body. Final tightening and load setting may be provided via the jackscrews whereby a lock feature of the load washer may be engaged and the assembly secured against inadvertent loosening. The load washer may be part of a lock washer stack including a lock washer. The interface between the lock and load washer may be configured for ratchet locking and/or helical wedge locking of the central thread.

  • Patent number: 7955037
Abstract: A fastener assembly includes a threaded bolt and a locking nut assembly. The threaded bolt includes at least one longitudinal groove. The locking nut assembly includes a nut adapted to threadingly engage the bolt, a locking ring adapted to engage the bolt and the nut, and a biasing member adapted to bias the locking ring. The nut includes a threaded bore dimensioned to receive the bolt and can include a plurality of teeth formed on a face of the nut. Alternatively, an insert ring can be received by the nut and the insert ring can include teeth. The locking ring includes at least one inwardly protruding tab dimensioned to be received by the at least one longitudinal groove of the threaded bolt and a plurality of teeth formed on a face of the ring. The teeth on the face of the locking ring cooperate with the teeth on the face of the nut, or insert ring, to inhibit removal of the nut from the bolt after the nut has been tightened.

  • Patent number: 6036236
Abstract: A heat exchanger, particularly with an integrated oil heat exchanger, has screw-in connectors. Each connector is secured to the exchanger using a retaining ring, which has finger forming projections. The heat exchanger has an annular collar with circumferentially spaced teeth on its inner circle. The fingers engage the teeth. The fingers and the teeth are arranged to prevent the connector from being unintentionally unscrewed or loosened by virtue of the connector being secured by the retaining ring.

  • Patent number: 5481938
Abstract: A position control apparatus for a raked steering column including a stationary bracket having a pair of vertical legs on opposite sides of the steering column, a spacer on the steering column between the legs of the stationary bracket, and a clamp on the steering column for squeezing the legs of the stationary bracket against the spacer. The clamp includes a long bolt spanning the legs of the stationary bracket, a nut on the bolt, a one-way clutch between a head of the bolt and the stationary bracket permitting rotation of the bolt in only a tension-increasing direction, and a snap-on operating lever rotatable as a unit with the nut. After assembly on a vehicle, the clamp afforded by the bolt can be adjusted without changing the terminal positions of the lever by rotating the head of the bolt in a tension increasing direction while the operating lever is maintained in a clamped terminal position corresponding to maximum bolt tension between the vertical legs of the stationary bracket.

  • Patent number: 5205691
Abstract: A screw stabilizer for selectively adjusting a first element with respect to a second element. The screw stabilizer includes a screw having a first end adapted to be supported on the first element and a second threaded end to be adapted to be threaded to the second element. First and second opposing washers are supported on the first end of the screw. The first washer includes a plurality of radially extending detents on the inner surface thereof. A plurality of ball bearings are sandwiched intermediate the first and second washers. The first end of the screw presses the first and second washers towards one another. The ball bearings selectively ride in the detents to selectively, releasably lock the screw in a desired position.
