  • Patent number: 5562380
Abstract: A protective seam plate retains a flexible membrane of a roofing system in place without tearing the flexible membrane during high winds. The protective seam plate comprises a seam plate having a web with a periphery and top and bottom surfaces. A protective ring surrounds the seam plate web periphery and overlies the web top and bottom surfaces around and adjacent the web periphery. The protective ring has a smooth continuous surface that is contacted by the flexible membrane when the flexible membrane lifts off the roof during high winds. The protective seam plate may be manufactured by heat shrinking a tube of heat shrinkable material surrounding the periphery of the seam plate web. Alternately, the protective ring may be an L-shaped ring that is assembled to the seam plate by bending a leg over the web top surface. The protective seam plate may also be fabricated by bending a flange that is integral with the seam plate web such that the flange partially overlies the web top surface.

  • Patent number: 5454675
Abstract: A sealing nut has an annular heat stabilized nylon sealing insert retained within a recess in a metallic nut body by a coined collar on the nut body. The sealing insert is initially formed symmetrical about a transverse median plane to enable bidirectional assembly into the nut body recess, and undergoes dynamic preloading when the collar is coined onto the periphery of the insert. When installed onto a threaded shaft extending from a bearing surface so that the coined collar is torqued against the bearing surface, the sealing insert forms a fluid-tight seal between the threaded shaft and a threaded bore in the bearing surface through which the threaded shaft extends. The nut body and sealing insert facilitate reduced manufacturing costs while enabling re-use without significant loss in sealing properties.

  • Patent number: 4975008
Abstract: A threaded fastener assembly which includes a threaded fastener about which is securely disposed an axially movable washer with a resilient grommet fitted thereover. The threaded fastener assembly is adapted to be preassembled within a first apertured work piece such as, for example, a rocker arm cover which is to be mounted upon a second apertured work piece such as, for example, an engine block. The threaded fastener assembly is retainable within the first apertured work piece while holding the fastener in a freely axially movable configuration which permits the fastener to be moved into an elevated position relative to the washer and grommet so as to prevent the fastener from projecting through the bottom surface of the first work piece, thus preventing interference with other surfaces or the second workpieces, and the structure provides seals for preventing fluid from leaking through the apertures of the workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4875818
Abstract: A fastener includes a threaded shank with a driving head on one end and a washer of resiliently yieldable material encircling the shank and disposed beneath the head to be compressed between the latter and a workpiece as the shank is driven into the workpiece. The head includes a skirt engaging the washer, the underside of the skirt being concave and being formed with an annular rib. As the washer is compressed, the rib exerts a downward force and produces a sealing circle between the washer and the workpiece. At the same time, the inner side of the rib forces the washer downwardly and inwardly to form a seal around the shank. The outer side of the rib forces the washer downwardly and outwardly against a flange on the periphery of the skirt, the flange trapping and retaining the washer in the space defined by the underside of the skirt.

Abstract: Resilient mounting apparatuses are useful for isolating the engine generated vibrations and noise from the frame. The mushroom style resilient mounting apparatuses are generally over designed and add to the cost without any additional benefits. The subject resilient mounting apparatus includes a rebound pad designed to provide high fatigue capacity yet low initial stiffness in a small space and to permit the use of simple manufacturing processes to make it. The primary support includes a skirt which cooperates with the rebound pad to keep foreign material from migrating into an annular space. Thus the subject resilient mounting apparatus meets the functional requirements while avoiding the manufacturing complexity or the extra cost of unneeded material.
