Sleeve Having External Gripping Means Patents (Class 411/71)
  • Patent number: 10954977
Abstract: A two-part fastener with an insert and a compression sleeve. The insert is an internally-threaded fastener intended to be installed into a hole of a very hard panel. The insert itself is relatively hard with a knurled outer barrel portion and a flange at the bottom. A compression sleeve is made of relatively soft material and is preassembled around the barrel of the insert by friction fit. Upon installation into a panel with a blind hole having parallel sides, the compression sleeve is pressed into the panel and deforms outwardly between the insert and the side wall of the hole. Friction between the compression sleeve and the wall of the hole prevents torque out and pull out of the fastener from the panel.

  • Patent number: 10584731
Abstract: An expansion anchor with a bolt and at least one expansion element is disclosed. An oblique surface is arranged in the region of the first end of the bolt and forces the expansion element radially outward on the bolt if the bolt is displaced in a pull-out direction relative to the expansion element. The bolt has, in the region of its rear end facing away from the first end, a load-absorber which is suitable for introducing tensile forces which are directed in the pull-out direction into the bolt. A plurality of grooves that are closed with respect to the first end of the bolt are disposed in the oblique surface and the plurality of grooves reduce a contact surface between the expansion element and the oblique surface. The contact surface between the expansion element and the oblique surface is reduced by the plurality of grooves by 20 to 50%.

  • Patent number: 9759246
Abstract: A fastener adapted to be installed in a hole of a composite structure includes a sleeve, a pin member, and a locking member. The sleeve has an outer surface having an outer diameter. The outer surface of the sleeve is textured. The outer diameter of the tubular portion is less than an inner diameter of the hole of the structure. The pin member has a shank portion. The sleeve is adapted to expand radially over the shank portion of the pin member to form an interference fit between the outer surface of the sleeve and the hole of the structure so as to provide an installed position of the fastener. When the fastener is in the installed position, the texture of the outer surface of the tubular portion deforms to engage with voids of the composite material present on the inner surface of the hole.

Abstract: A woven retention device for interfacing with a bone surface includes interwoven filaments forming a tubular lattice with protuberances distributed on interior and exterior surfaces of the lattice at a predetermined spatial relationship. The protuberances are formed by intersecting interwoven filaments. The retention device receives and surrounds a fastener. In a first, relaxed state, the retention device has multiple combinations of filament cross-section geometries at the intersection points, and the multiple combinations of filament cross-section geometries form multiple protuberance thicknesses. In a second state when surrounding at least a portion of the fastener, the retention device distributes pressure from the fastener to multiple points of contact on the exterior surface of the retention device such that a spatial relationship of the protuberances changes as a function of bone density of the bone surface and as a function of an interfacing surface shape of the fastener.

  • Patent number: 8215875
Abstract: A bolt anchor is comprised of a body and sleeve. The body is generally wedge shaped with a threaded bore along its axis and at least one stop near its smaller end. The sleeve has a round collar with leaves extending from the collar parallel to the axis of the collar and each other. The at least one stop maintains the assembly of the body and sleeve. Prongs on the sleeve prevent the retraction or turning of the bolt anchor when a bolt is installed in a hole using the bolt anchor. Reduced material thickness associated with the leaves on the sleeve produces hinges which allow the leaves to be more easily deformed outwardly to engage the sides of a hole. Inserting a bolt and bolt anchor assembly into the hole and then turning the bolt pulls the body into the sleeve and creates a wedging effect in the hole.

The sleeve is conically shaped for at least an axially extending portion from the leading end with the conically shaped portion diverging outwardly toward the trailing end. Axially extending projections protrude outwardly from the outer surface of the conically shaped portion of the sleeve and have at least one axially extending flank with a planar surface inclined relative to the axis of the sleeve. The at least one inclined flank forms a working surface which acts against any pulling out force on the sleeve and ensures high anchoring values.

  • Patent number: 4789284
Abstract: The present invention relates to expansison anchors for solid wall installation and is specifically concerned with providing a self cutting expansion anchor which can be installed in one continuous motion by utilizing combined cutting blades and wall gripping members which cut their own undercut portion within a wall bore into which the gripping members are then permanently further expanded in positive locking engagement. Such dual-stage installation is achieved by utilizing an anchor mounting assembly having a pair or opposite-hand screw-threaded portions thereon which separately mount a blade expanding thrust member and a camming ramp on which the blades are initially expanded by axial movement of the thrust member toward the ramp and in the second stage causing the ramp to axially move toward the thrust member in further expanding relation to the blades.

  • Patent number: 4642010
Abstract: A threaded fastener for installation in threaded engagement with an initially unthreaded apertured workpiece and which after installation can be removed in the manner of a screw or bolt, has a shank and an enlarged head. At least part of the shank intermediate between its ends has an external screw thread having a sharp crest, and can be radially expanded to cause the thread to embed in the workpiece. A bore extends through the head and the entire shank or at least the threaded part of the shank for receiving means for expanding the shank. An end portion of the shank remote from the head may be unthreaded to avoid splitting of the shank during expansion. The method of installing the fastener involves pulling a tapered mandrel along the bore to expand the shank. The mandrel may have a key-forming head of non-circular cross-section whereby the bore of the fastener can be adopted to receive a key of non-circular cross-section for turning the fastener in the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4408938
Abstract: An expansion sleeve for attaching objects to a relatively thin panel comprises a hollow headed bolt threaded externally for its full length and threaded internally at an end portion remote from the head. The unthreaded internal portion of the bolt has an inwardly projecting apertured annular shoulder into which a drift pin may be driven to expand the sleeve on the interior side of a panel to which the sleeve is to be attached. A jamb nut pulls the expanded sleeve portion firmly against the inside of the panel member and thereafter a threaded rod is threaded into the interior threads of the sleeve so that a nut on the threaded rod may be tightened against the sleeve head. This draws the inner end of the sleeve toward the panel member to increase the pressure of the expanded sleeve portion against the panel. An object to be attached to the panel is then connected to the protruding end of the threaded rod.

  • Patent number: 4274324
Abstract: A plastic screw anchor for fastening fixtures and other objects to a hollow wall, the anchor including a four-legged diamond-shaped shank whose front legs are joined together by a front apex living hinge and whose rear legs are joined to the front legs by side apex living hinges, the ends of the rear legs defining a rear apex. Secured by a pair of normally outstretched resilient webs to the rear legs of the shank is a flanged socket whose bore lies in registration with an opening formed in the front apex hinge. The diamond-shaped shank is collapsible to form a tongue that is insertable in a hole drilled in the wall to accommodate the socket, the webs then reverting to their outstretched condition to cause the shank which is now behind the wall to recover its diamond formation. When a self-tapping screw is turned into the socket bore, it acts to thread the bore.
