  • Patent number: 9441660
Abstract: A method for Inserting and fixing a mounting insert into a lightweight sandwich panel. The panel comprises a core layer and two cover layers that are applied to opposing main surfaces of the panel. A recess extends into the depth of the core layer of the panel. The mounting insert is inserted into the recess and is adhesively bonded therein. The bottom of the recess extends to a depth of the core layer material that extends further than the longitudinal extension of the recessing section to be inserted. When adhesively bonding the mounting insert, an air gap remains between an end face of the recessing section and the bottom of the recess. No adhesive is placed into the air gap. The air gap ensures a decoupling so that any applied tensile forces are no longer transferred to the cover layer opposite and the undesired formation of dents is avoided.

Abstract: A fastener for fastening at least two work pieces together comprises a body and a pin. The body has a head, a shaft extending from the head and an open hollow core extending into the shaft. The shaft has a retaining means spaced from the head to accommodate the work pieces. The retaining mechanism has a contracted configuration where it is sized to pass through holes in the work pieces and an expanded configuration where it is expanded in size or spacing such that the shaft is unable to be removed from the holes in the work pieces. The retaining mechanism defines a constriction in the core at which the core has a first width when the retaining mechanism is in its contracted configuration. The pin is locatable in the core. The pin has a least a first portion with an external width greater than the first width of the core.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention comprise hot-rolled threaded rebar bolts that are less costly to manufacture but maintain the same or similar structural benefits of more costly manufactured bolts presently in use. One embodiment of the invention is directed generally to bolts for use in mine roof support applications, or other structural support applications, that are manufactured by hot-rolling a steel bar into a threaded bolt. Hot-rolling threads onto a bar results in eliminating costly processes to prepare the rebar for threading and mechanically threading the rebar via standard thread-cutting schemes, and creates bolts efficiently in large quantities that have semi-continuous threads and minor or no longitudinal ribs. The threaded rebar bolts are rotatable in cured resin nuts, making them tensionable, and can be adapted for use with a columnar resin nut disposed in bore holes in geological structures.
