    Abstract: An insert is configured for anchoring within a cored panel and has a wide flange on one end, a sacrificial cover and threaded pin on its opposite end and a nut captured therein. The panel is prepared by forming a countersunk hole therein and filling or coating such opening with an adhesive. The insert is fitted into the hole such that the flange is positioned against one surface of the panel while the sacrificial cover and threaded pin protrude from the opposite surface. A screw fixture is threaded onto the threaded pin to maintain the insert in place while the adhesive cures. Subsequent removal of the screw fixture and sacrificial cover completes the anchoring process and exposes the nut that is captured within the insert for receipt of an appropriate fastener.

    Abstract: A fastener adapted for anchoring into a masonry structure, such as a concrete block, employs an epoxy resin system so that the fastener is both mechanically engaged and bonded to the structure. In one preferred configuration, the bead is composed of a hardener, a resin and a nylon powder and has a cardioid-shaped configuration which subtends substantially 360° around the shank at an intermediate position of a threaded portion of the fastener. Various configurations are disclosed, including a fastener wherein adhesive in microencapsulated form is also applied to a lower intermediate portion. In addition, wings may extend from the shank.

    Abstract: A reinforcing nut plate (40) contacts one surface of an automotive vehicle body pillar (28) with hot-melt adhesive bodies (52) therebetween. A door hinge plate (15) is secured to the pillar (28) and nut plate (40) by one or more bolts (20,22) providing a predetermined mounting arrangement. On rust-proofing or other manufacturing treatment raising the door temperature a significant amount, the adhesive bodies affix the nut plate to the pillar. Now, the door may be removed from the pillar and transported to another work site for accessories to be mounted, following which the door can be readily reinstalled to the predetermined arrangement with the pillar and nut plate.

The coated fastener is prepared by heating a metal fastener, or a portion of it, to about 400-2000° F. and cooling in an aqueous medium containing an acrylic or modified acrylic polymer. The rapid cooling causes formation of a thin yet durable polymer coating on the fastener.
