Roller Die Patents (Class 413/31)
  • Patent number: 11958644
Abstract: A seaming shaft device for a sealer includes a seaming shaft, a seaming device detachable from the seaming shaft, and a fastening mechanism for fastening the seaming device to the seaming shaft. The fastening mechanism includes a lock and a fastener which can be arranged between the lock and the seaming device. The lock and the seaming device can be moved relative to each other along the seaming axis so that the seaming device can be brought from a locked state to an unlocked state, and the fastener in the locked stat is clamped between the seaming device and the lock such that the seaming device is fixed to the seaming shaft. The fastener can be unclamped by bringing the seaming device from the locked state to the unlocked state so that the seaming device is detachable from the seaming shaft.

Abstract: A can seaming apparatus including a frame, a can handling assembly, a can driving assembly and a seaming assembly. The can seaming apparatus is configured to seal a lid to a can through a double seam can seal. The can is positioned and clamped between an upper and a lower chuck. The can driving assembly spins the can and the upper and lower chucks about an axis. The seaming assembly includes two rollers mounted to a roller frame which pivots about an axis relative to the frame. The roller frame can be pivoted so as to selectively have the two rollers sequentially engage the can to form the necessary crimping operations.

  • Patent number: 10799935
Abstract: Disclosed is a lid seaming apparatus that uses a seam forming roller and a seam sealer roller that move in a direction that is substantially parallel or is preferably less than 10 degrees from a tangent line drawn through the intersection point of the seam forming roller and the seam sealer roller with a seaming chuck. A displacement between the seaming chuck and the seam sealer roller that is slightly less than the thickness of a sealed seam allows for a high degree of adjustment and the creation of forces that are sufficient to cause the seam to properly seal.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for ejecting workpieces from machines, especially lidded containers from lid seamers, that have a forming station including a chuck element and a forming roller and that have a positioning mechanism that advances to move the workpiece into engagement with the forming station. The apparatus and method utilize a resilient element to exert an ejecting force. The resilient element is disposed on the chuck element in a manner so that engagement of the workpiece operates to compress, either by compression or deflection, the resilient element so that it exerts a restorative force that ejects the workpiece. Where a lid seamer is sued with a pull opener (e.g., pop top) lid, the contact with the resilient member occurs a location spaced from the opener and its connecting elements. The resilient element is preferably cup-shaped having a central panel and a longitudinally and radially outwardly projecting lip.

Abstract: A sealed container in which a container body having a ring-like shape and a hollow portion at the center includes opening portions on which a cap member of a similar ring-like shape is attached. The container body is sealed when the annular groove portions of a cap member clamp inner and outer edges of opening portions of the ring-like shaped container body and are secured on inner and outer peripheral surfaces of each of these edges. The can member therefore can be easily attached on the container body so that sealing operation can be effected smoothly and mass-production can be achieved. Also disclosed is a method of manufacturing such a container.

  • Patent number: 5358369
Abstract: In a can seamer, after a control mode of a drive motor has been switched to a type-changing mode, if an action button is depressed, in response to signals issued from a rotational position sensor, the drive motor moves can seaming mechanisms one pitch by one pitch via a center shaft and stops at predetermined positions. At the stopped position, an actuator is operated to depress the top end of a seaming roll shaft. By this operation, a gap clearance is formed between a rotary frame and a seaming lever. When seaming rolls are dismounted and replaced, the seaming lever connected with a seaming chuck via a bracket is removed, and thereby a type-changing work can be carried out. In addition, in the type-changing work of the can seamer, the vertical positional adjustment in a fitting between a seaming lever and seaming rolls is easily carried out. Furthermore, the knock-out pad can be replaced in a one-touch operation.

  • Patent number: 5149239
Abstract: A can end double-seaming machine has a housing in which a shaft is rotatably supported. The shaft with a seaming cam lever mounted is pressed downwardly by a presser against the bias of a spring until the lower surface of the seaming cam lever is held against the upper surface of the housing. Then, an annular spacer is fitted over the lower end portion of the shaft underneath, with the tubular support held against a neck of the shaft. A seaming roll lever is then mounted on the lower end portion of the shaft. The presser is deactivated to release the shaft, which is lifted together with the seaming cam lever, the annular spacer, and the seaming roll lever under the bias of the spring until the marginal portion of the annular spacer abuts against the lower surface of the housing. The tubular support enters the housing by a distance corresponding to a predetermined clearance. The seaming cam lever and the housing are now spaced from each other by the predetermined clearance.

  • Patent number: 5071302
Abstract: This relates to the double seaming of an end unit to a metal can body where the end unit is of the full opening, easy opening type incorporating a pull tab for the purpose of initiating a rupture followed by pull out of an end panel of the end unit. Most specifically, the end unit is of an oblong rectangular or generally other than round outline so as to have a fixed orientation with respect to a double seam forming double seaming chuck. By having a fixed relationship between each end unit and the double seaming chuck and the pull tab with respect to the configuration of the end unit, it is possible to form a notch in the underside of the double seaming chuck to clear the pull tab. This permits the pull tab to have a force applying nose thereof positioned closely adjacent to a chuck wall of the end unit so that it may overlie a score line or weakening line formed in the chuck wall radius between the chuck wall and the end panel.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for fabricating an arcuate seam between two pieces of sheet metal. The method involves a three-step process in which an arcuate standing seam is formed on a first piece of sheet metal, the marginal edge of a second piece of sheet metal is inserted into the pocket of the standing seam, and the pocket of the standing seam and the marginal edge inserted therein are simultaneously bent so that they lie along the surface of the first piece of sheet metal, thus locking together the two pieces of sheet metal. The arcuate standing seam is formed by an apparatus including a plurality of form roller pairs arranged along an arc. Each pair of form rollers has complementary edges that form a nip through which the arcuate edge of the sheet metal workpiece is passed, the shapes of the edges of the successive roller pairs along the arc gradually attaining the shape of the standing seam.
