With Seaming Patents (Class 413/72)
  • Patent number: 8480344
Abstract: A conveying apparatus with a first conveyor and a second conveyor is used a the welding apparatus and a welding method for container bodies and in particular can bodies between which conveyors the object to be welded is handed over. A control unit determines the take over position and/or the conveying travel of the second conveyor and controls the conveyors accordingly, so that the take over occurs at the determined position and/or with the determined conveying travel of the second conveyor. This allows an easy and swift changing of the welding apparatus to different sizes of the objects to be welded.

Abstract: A method and device includes Fe producing cans from a directly imprinted metal band. The imprinted metal band can also be subdivided into partial webs prior to further processing by at least one longitudinal cut. An inner coating closed in a circumferential direction can be applied after forming laser seam at the metal band that has been formed into a tubular shape, i.e. prior to severing individual can shells.

  • Patent number: 8371495
Abstract: When rounding metal sheet sections for forming can bodies by means of a rounding machine, a pre-rounding element is used, whose lower part is deflectable with respect to the upper part by means of an actuating element. Thereby, the joint between the upper and the lower part is executed as a solid body joint whose section modulus in bending during the deflection is different along the joint. Thereby, a uniform impact on the metal sheet may be reached. Furthermore, the separating gap between the upper and the lower part is arranged obliquely, thus reducing the bending of the lower part.

  • Patent number: 8083122
Abstract: Drum for a washer and a dryer including a cylindrical metal body part, reduced parts at opposite end parts of the body part, each having a diameter smaller than a diameter of the body part, and bent parts each having a folded edge of the reduced part, thereby providing a drum that can prevent occurrence of vibration and noise.

  • Publication number: 20090263213
Abstract: A pre-rounding element (14) is used in a rounding apparatus (4) for rounding can body blanks from sheet metal blanks. The lower element part (22) of the pre-rounding element (14) is displaceable by an actuation element (23). This allows the adjustment of the pre-rounding element even during operation of the rounding apparatus. Preferably a measurement of sheet metal blank properties takes place. The measurement may include a thickness measurement and/or a strength measurement of blanks. The pre-rounding element is controlled in dependency of the measurement result. This allow a constant rounding result even with varying sheet metal properties.

  • Patent number: 6926486
Abstract: A seaming lever containing a micro adjusting seaming element. When used in a seaming lever, the micro adjusting element permits both a coarse and a fine adjustment of the position of the seaming roll with respect to the chuck. This micro adjusting element may be retrofitted into any existing seaming lever which uses a worm gear for rotational adjustment of the seaming roll. It may also be incorporated as a design element of newly manufactured seaming levers.

  • Patent number: 5655867
Abstract: Two destacking tables and two can body forming stations are provided, the latter forming cylindrical can bodies from the metal sheets stacked on the destacking tables. These can bodies are subsequently conveyed along the feed axis to the welding station, which welds the longitudinal seam of the can bodies. The provision of two destacking tables and two can body forming stations enables these elements to operate at the cycle rate of the welding station. This permits welding to be effected with an increased cycle rate, with reliable feeding of the can bodies despite this.

  • Patent number: 5569144
Abstract: Particular aesthetic requirements are made in respect of tube bodies for packaging tubes. An extrusion tube fulfills demands of that kind, better than a foil tube with a welded seam. There is disclosed a process for the production of a foil tube which substantially corresponds to the aesthetic particularities of an extrusion tube.

  • Patent number: 5296078
Abstract: On the welding arm of a welding machine is mounted a coaxial application pipe with removable transport means and an application nozzle. Into this application pipe is fed a block-shaped hot-melt mass, in the direction opposite the advance direction of the sheet metal tube, guided in direction (V) of the application tube, melted in the area of a narrowing heater, passed through a supply tube to the application nozzle and applied or sprayed as a hot-melt strip to the inside of the longitudinal weld seam of sheet metal tubes. The application of a hot-melt strip is suitable in particular for the protection of the longitudinal seam of a tin-plated can shell.

  • Patent number: 5277532
Abstract: The device comprises a flat block with a pair of rods carrying two respective teeth, reciprocated as one in the direction followed by cans conveyed from a forming station to the welding station by a pair of chain loops driven at constant operating speed; from a fully retracted position, in which the rods engage the rolled shell of the can essentially at standstill, or in any event at minimal velocity, the block accelerates to an intermediate position at which its velocity reaches a calculated maximum and is matched substantially to that of the chains, whereupon the can is taken up by the chains and the block decelerates in the same direction toward a fully extended position before reversing.

  • Patent number: 5209625
Abstract: A sheet-metal blank (10) can be moved through between first and second bending rolls (24, 25). Disposed behind the bending rolls (24, 25) in its direction of movement (12) is a deflecting member (28) by which the sheet-metal blank (10) can be deflected away from the first bending roll (24) and round the second bending roll (25) out of its original direction of movement (12). In order to catch the edge of the sheet-metal blank (10) which was leading in the original direction of movement (12), a catch ledge (29) is disposed at the side of the second bending roll (25) remote from the first bending roll (24) and at least substantially in the common plane of the axes of the two bending rolls (24, 25). The catch ledge (29) is a component of a guide rail (30) on which the rounded sheet-metal blank (10) is guided with its longitudinal edges lying close beside one another during a further axial movement.

  • Patent number: 5061141
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing can bodies, wherein blanks are laterally centered after removal from a magazine, are engaged in the center of their rear edge and are transported into a shaping station in which initially the center section of the blank is bent into its final shape. While doing this, a central force and friction lock is produced between a transporting means and the deformed blank to realize reliable guidance of the already partially bent blank. To further transport the blank, it is contacted at its rear edge in the already completely bent region by two lateral transporting devices and is advanced to a seam forming station, while the opposite longitudinal edges of the blank are brought to an adjoining relationship.

  • Patent number: 4595326
Abstract: There is provided a method of making a welded can body having a mash seam weld which includes a heat affected zone extending continuously in the longitudinal direction thereof and is formed with no pitting. The weld is formed by mash seam welding a lapped portion of a can body preform made of a surface treated steel sheet while allowing an alternating current to flow through the lapped portion via a water-cooled elongated electrode and a water-cooled rotary electrode. The alternating current has a crest factor satisfying an expression 1.5.ltoreq.Ip/Ie.ltoreq.2.0, where Ie and Ip designate an effective value and a peak value, respectively, of the alternating current.
