With Operating Means Patents (Class 414/454)
  • Patent number: 7816878
Abstract: A system and method for coordinating movement of a powered sliding door module and an access ramp for a vehicle. A system control board communicates with a current detector that can detect current on the power wires for the sliding door's motor. The current detector signals the system control board when it detects current and the system control board determines whether the ramp is stowed or deployed. If the ramp is deployed, the system control board stops and reverses the door so that the door remains open. The system control board then stows the ramp and closes the door. If the ramp is stowed, the system control board waits for the current in the door motor to return to zero and then determines if the door is completely open. If the door is not completely open the system control board does nothing. If the door is completely open, the system control board deploys the ramp.

Abstract: A hand cart useful in transporting one or two cylinders for example of the type used to contain compressed gasses. A preferred embodiment has at least one pair of cylinder-grasping arms rotatable apart to a spread open position for loading and unloading cylinders, and rotatable together to a closed position for holding cylinders. A fold-out prop helps support the cart and tanks so that vertical force is not needed to move the cart forward or backward, and stabilizes the cart while stationary.

  • Publication number: 20030007851
Abstract: A ramp deployment control system includes a controller, a kneeling motor operatively coupled to the controller and a ramp motor operatively coupled to the controller. The controller energizes the kneeling motor to kneel or stand a vehicle and energizes the ramp motor to deploy or stow a ramp. The controller is operatively coupled to a communication pathway, and a door control system is operatively coupled to the controller. The door control system is operable to monitor and control operation of a door. A standard control module is operatively coupled to the communication pathway and is operable to send door operation commands on the communication pathway. The controller selectively delays execution of the door operation commands by the door control system while operating the ramp motor to deploy or stow the ramp.

  • Patent number: 5122027
Abstract: A carrier comprising a lift bar provided on the body of the carrier and movable upward and downward, a connecting member pivotably connected between an upwardly driving cylinder device and the lift bar, an upper claw provided on the connecting member, and a lower claw provided on the lift bar and cooperative with the upper claw for holding the upper rim of a container. The load of the container acting on the lower claw pulls down the upper claw for the two claws to clamp the container upper rim to transport the container as lifted.

  • Patent number: 5017080
Abstract: A hand truck for lifting and transporting objects. The truck includes an elongated frame attached to a wheel assembly. A carriage is mounted on the frame to travel the length of the frame. The carriage includes a load bed that extends across the frame, and at least one protrusion located below the load bed that extends above the load bed. A seizing arm is pivotally attached to the carriage above the load body and has a seizing arm with a grip point directed toward the load body. The seizing arm has a stem that extends beyond the pivot point attachment opposite the seizing arm body. A winch with cable are attached to the top of the frame. The free end of the cable is attached to the seizing arm stem. Retracting the cable causes the seizing arm to pivot so the grip point is forced against as object located on the carriage. The force of the seizing arm is sufficient to secure the object between the grip point and the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4981412
Abstract: A modified hand truck with a novel structure that optimizes the cooperation between the carrying platform and the wheels in order to produce the maximum lifting force possible for the operator. The wheels are free to move in relation to the carrying platform, thus tilting of the load to the extent desired is possible before lifting becomes necessary. In addition, because the invention minimizes the impact of the size of the wheels on the lifting action, large wheels are used to improve the rideability and stability of the truck.

  • Patent number: 4637769
Abstract: A carrier for lifting and transporting a log. The carrier includes a wheeled frame, a hook, and a load stabilizer. The hook has, at one end, a hinged attachment to the frame, and, at the other end, both a point for gripping one side of the log and a point for prodding logs into position. The load stabilizer is movably attached to the frame. After a log is initially gripped between the hook and the frame, the stabilizer is moved into a position in which the stabilizer applies a force to the log to hold the log against the hook and thereby prevent the hook from losing its grip on the log.

  • Patent number: 4492505
Abstract: A clamping device for securing a load on a hand truck is attached to either outer side tube of the truck. The clamping device can be moved vertically on a guide rod which is attached to the outer side tube when the operator has actuated a release lever. After an extension bar, having a variety of possible shapes is positioned on the load, the operator presses the clamping device down on the load and removes the actuating force on the release lever. This locks the clamping device in place and secures the load on the truck. A set of floating clamps allows minimum load shifting and locks the clamping device on the guide rod when so desired by the operator.

  • Patent number: 4375935
Abstract: The lower extremity of the handle means of a hand truck is pivotably associated with an axle of a pair of wheels. A frame, disposed in front of said handle means, is also pivotably associated with said axle. Elongated curved securing means are pivotably supported by a fork which spans said frame. A lever arm pivotably interconnecting the rearward extremity of said securing means and said handle means enables said securing means to be raised when the handle means is moved forward, and lowered onto cargo objects when said handle means is moved rearwardly.

  • Patent number: 4257729
Abstract: A hand truck for transporting loads which obviates the necessity of tilting the load prior to positioning the latter on the hand truck. The hand truck is devoid of any bottom plate and carries a pair of jaws clampable on the top flange, or bead, of a load and which suspends the load along the inclined truck frame when the truck frame is moved about on its wheels. The hand truck is further characterized by the provision of a foot-operated jack mechanism to raise the clamped load along the truck frame, so that the load may be deposited at any desired elevation when its destination is reached. The jaws are so arranged that they automatically increase the clamping pressure clamp on the load bead, or top flange, when the load exerts a downward pull on said jaws.
