Including Perforated Member Which Is Nonlinear Or Inclined With Respect To The Major Axis Of Container Patents (Class 422/274)
  • Patent number: 4407779
Abstract: A dispersion control device for use in a toilet tank for dispensing a soluble solid, in solution, in a controlled manner into the tank. The device includes a cap having a conical portion which extends inwardly and downwardly into the interior of the cap. The cap is attached to a container which contains the soluble solid, and the cap has a plurality of slots in the walls of the conical portion and a hole at the lowermost portion of the conical portion. In operation, the conical portion of the cap defines an intermediate holding chamber which holds and allows dispersion of a specified concentration and predetermined amount of solution into the tank, as a result of the flows that occur during flushing.

  • Patent number: 4402912
Abstract: A system for the addition of a corrosion inhibitor to an engine cooling system wherein a container in the coolant system holds the corrosion inhibitor in a solid package which is withheld from contact with the coolant solution by a spring under load. The inhibitor package is counterbalanced by a pair of opposed springs with one spring being subject to corrosion when the corrosive effect of the coolant increases; corrosion of the spring allowing the inhibitor package to be urged into contact with the solution to provide treatment thereof.

  • Patent number: 4379125
Abstract: The invention relates to an open dissolving chamber for rock salt and to an apparatus for the production, free from vapors, of concentrated, aqueous sodium chloride crude brine by continuously dissolving rock salt in this dissolving chamber. The dissolving chamber contains a heap of rock salt with which the brine which is unsaturated in respect of salt comes into contact. The brine thereby becomes saturated with sodium chloride and then passes out of the dissolving chamber. In the present apparatus, the unsaturated brine enters at the base of the dissolving chamber. The saturated crude brine is removed from the rock salt through at least one vertical or inclined screen which largely holds back suspended rock salt particles. The liquid level of the saturated crude brine in the dissolving chamber should not reach the surface of the heap of rock salt, and the side of the screen facing the interior of the dissolving chamber should be completely covered with a mixture of saturated crude brine and rock salt.

  • Patent number: 4318892
Abstract: Disclosed is a hollow, elongated heap leaching device for use in above-ground leaching of metal bearing ores. The device has an annular cross-section, an inlet opening near its upper end, a restriction or closure at or near its lower end and narrow slits in its walls above the restriction or closure. The cross-sectional area at its lower end must be sufficiently large to allow it to unsupportedly rest vertically on a leach pad or layer of ore while ore is piled against it.

  • Patent number: 4258011
Abstract: An apparatus for extraction of vegetable oil from vegetable solids, by treatment thereof with solvents, comprises a vessel separated into an upper zone and lower zones by means of a movable perforated plate, upon which the vegetable solids material for extraction can be supported. Suitable solvent is fed into the bed of vegetable material, and percolated therethrough, to extract the oil, the solvent and oil passing downwardly through the perforated plates to collect in a lower zone of the vessel. Another lower zone of the vessel is adapted to receive the treated vegetable solids after the solvent extraction process, this lower zone being provided with movable cover plates, so that solvent and oil does not fall into this vegetable solids receiving zone.

  • Patent number: 4248835
Abstract: An apparatus for the countercurrent extraction of liquids, forming a portion of solids, from such solids includes a rotary drum having an axis which is substantially horizontal. An inner partition is positioned within the drum and is substantially in the shape of a spiral formed by spiral turns having spaces therebetween. Each space has a raising element which lifts the solids from the liquid and a barrier over which the solids drop from the raising element and which stops the liquid and forces it back into an adjacent space during rotation of the drum. The raising element has a curvature such that the solids are lifted from the liquid and gradually drop in successive fractions over the barrier without sliding on the raising element.

  • Patent number: 4230675
Abstract: This invention relates to improved apparatus for counter-currently contacting liquids and solids to dissolve, or leach, a selected component of the solids while minimizing back-mixing of the liquid phase. The apparatus includes an elongated drum which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis in either direction and is partitioned radially into a solids-inlet/liquid-outlet compartment at one end, a solids-outlet/liquid-inlet compartment at its other end, and leaching compartments therebetween. The drum is designed to operate with its acid-inlet end elevated and with the longitudinal axis of the drum at an angle in the range of from about 3.degree. to 14.degree. to the horizontal. Each leaching compartment contains a chute assembly for advancing solids into the next compartment in the direction of solids flow when the drum is rotated in a selected direction. The chute assembly includes a solids-transfer baffle and a chute in the form of a slotted, skewed, conical frustum portion.

  • Patent number: 4161963
Abstract: An ion exchange liquid treatment apparatus including a tank having an upwardly dished bottom wall and a distributor of the type having a central header and a plurality of distributor conduits extending outwardly from this header. Each distributor conduit is formed of a first straight conduit section that extends generally radially outwardly from the header and a second straight conduit section that is connected to the first conduit section by a pipe elbow whereby the second conduit section can be positioned oblique to a plane through the longitudinal axis of the tank and at a shallow angle to a plane perpendicular to the tank axis to generally conform to the contour of the dished bottom wall of the tank. Each of the second distributor conduit sections preferably have lateral conduits extending transverse thereto to achieve generally uniform liquid flow throughout the cross-section of the tank.

  • Patent number: 4123228
Abstract: A filter for liquids and particularly coffee comprises a container having a planar horizontal base formed with at least one filtrate drainage opening, and on its inner face formed with a plurality of radial ribs and a central support member which together support a generally planar filter element of thin sheet material in spaced parallel relationship to the base. In use the arrangement produces a toroidal circulation of liquid which prevents compaction of the filter cake and reduces clogging of the filter element.
