By gradually disrupting the axial flow in close proximity to the projecting ridgelines prior to its extrusion, the dimensional quality of the resulting direct expanded food piece is greatly improved. Moreover, by carefully positioning the capillary channels of the injection section into that portion of the flowing extrudate not affected by the axially aligned ridgelines, a distinct colored and/or flavored pattern is imparted into the extrudable food mass during the extrusion process while improving the quality of dimensional design aspects of the resulting extruded, complexly shaped, direct expanded food products.

Abstract: The dimensions of a tube molded by an extrusion molding apparatus are made more accurate. The arrangement of the extrusion molding apparatus enabling the molding of the aforesaid accurate tube is simplified. The molding of the aforesaid accurate tube is facilitated. The extrusion molding apparatus (1) comprises extruders (6, 7) for thermally melting resins (3, 4) to enable their molding, and a die (11) having tube molding passages (9, 10) for forwardly passing therethrough the resins (3, 4) extruded from the extruders (6, 7) to enable the molding of a tube (2). Flow adjusting valves (34, 35) are installed which enable the adjustment of the respective flows per unit time of the resins (3, 4) passing from the extruders (6, 7) to the tube molding passages (9, 10).

Abstract: An apparatus for the manufacture of compound pipes with an oval cross-section is equipped with mould halves which advance in a direction of production and of which two at a time combine as a pair on a moulding path to form one mould. An injection head of at least one extruder is arranged upstream of the moulding path. An external nozzle used for the creation of an external tube is substantially circular in shape and is located at a distance upstream of the moulding path. An internal nozzle with a cross-section similar to the oval cross-section of the pipe to be created is located inside the moulding path. When entering the moulding path, the external tube extruded through the external nozzle is expanded in one direction and pressed together in a direction which is perpendicular to the former.

Abstract: Coextruded films provide cross directional zoned multiple components side-by-side to one another. Systems and methods relate to coextruding such films. During coextrusion, a first polymer conjoins with a second polymer while a temperature differential is maintained between the first and second polymers. This temperature differential is selected to reduce a difference between the viscosities of the first and second polymers making the viscosity of the first polymer close enough to the viscosity of the second polymer to avoid separation upon coextrusion. Further, the films may form a layer in subsequent lamination to other material layers.
