Patent number: 7648658Abstract: An alternate polymer extrusion method and system reduces “drool” effects that detract from precise control over the content of two or more materials in an extrudate along its length. In the system, two or more extruders direct melt to two or more gear pumps. Control of the speed of the gear pumps controls the amount of each material emergent from the pumps, proceeding to a convergence in the paths from the pumps and thence to a die. Melt in each path between each pump and the convergence tends to expand and drool into the convergence as its associated pump is slowed and stopped. To prevent this, in the die, a constriction in each path just upstream of the convergence greatly reduces drool past that point by requiring a much greater pressure to force the melt past the constriction. The increased pressure required increases compression and expansion of the melt between the pump and the construction as a pump starts or increases in speed, on one hand, and stop or decreases in speed, on the other hand.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2004Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Harrel, Inc.Inventor: Holton E. Patent number: 7278844Abstract: A blow head for extruding a tubular plastic preform from an outlet gap between a fixed die core and a die body allows a change of the width of the outlet gap as a function of the circumference using light and small actuating devices, e.g., double-acting actuator cylinders, if the die body has its upper end, facing away from the outlet gap, pivotably mounted in the blow head and a pressure ring is positioned in the outlet gap, on which the actuating devices act.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2005Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignee: Thermo-Technik-Systeme GmbHInventors: Claus-Dieter Koetke, Matthias Schindler

Patent number: 7214047Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting machine for cutting up, in particular, foodstuff products having an unstable outer contour. The product feeding unit of the cutting machine has a number of conveyor and shaping belts, which are distributed over the peripheral contour of the product to be cut, are driven in a revolving manner, and whose conveyor strands can be, in particular, individually placed with a pre-determinable pressure against the conveyed product to be cut.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2004Date of Patent: May 8, 2007Assignee: Weber Meachinenbau GmbH & Co. Patent number: 7195473Abstract: Thermoplastic polymers, rubbery polymeric components and reinforcing fillers are mixed and heated to a range of 380° F. to 440° F. The resulting mixture is then fed into a BANBURY mixer, with the resulting mixture fed into a diverter feeding two molds. The velocity of the piston of each mold being filled is controlled to thereby control the density of the molded product along its length (BANBURY is a registered trademark of Farrel Corporation). As each mold is filled, it is deposited in a cool water bath (50° F.–60° F.) while the next mold is being filled. The molds are sequentially transferred to an air cooling rack to complete the process. A texture, generally comprising indentations perpendicular to the longitudinal axis on the molded object, provides a frictional surface between the railway crosstie and the ballast beneath the crosstie.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2004Date of Patent: March 27, 2007Assignees: TieTek, Inc., North American Technologies Group, Inc.Inventors: Henry W. Patent number: 7160094Abstract: A die assembly (10) having a first die part (12), which includes a first lip (16) that, in combination with a second lip (18), defines a feed gap (20). The first die part (12) also includes a rear portion (22), a front portion (24), a slot (26) between these portions (22,24), and a gap-setting device (28) that is mechanically movable within the slot (26) so as to enable the movement of the front portion (24) relative to the rear portion (22). The first lip (16) is carried by the front portion (24), whereby movement of the front portion (24) in one direction moves the first lip (16) relative to the second lip (18), thereby adjusting the feed gap (20). The geometries of the slot (26) and the gap-setting device (28) are such that movement in a second opposite direction is limited to a known position, thereby providing a registration position for the front portion (24) of the first die part (12) and thereby providing a registration position for the first lip (16).Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2004Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Avery Dennison CorporationInventor: Mark Wyatt

Patent number: 6936198Abstract: An apparatus for producing hollow bodies, in particular bottles and similar containers provided with an evacuation opening, of thermoplastic includes a lower machine part and a beamlike upper machine part. The lower machine part is equipped with at least two blow molds, each provided with a cavity. A number of blowing and calibration mandrels corresponding to the number of blow molds is disposed on the beamlike upper machine part disposed above the lower machine part. One blow mold is assigned to each blowing and calibration mandrel. The blowing and calibration mandrels can be axially fed jointly toward the blow molds and can be moved with their calibration region into an orifice of the cavity until an annular shoulder of the blowing and calibration mandrels comes into contact with a counterpart face on the associated blow mold. The blowing and calibration mandrels are retained axially freely movably, within predeterminable limits, in the upper machine part.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2001Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Soplar SAInventor: Markus Düringer

Patent number: 6905642Abstract: The invention concerns a continuous manufacturing method which consists in producing a blank (E) by extrusion, bringing said blank to a temperature for molecular orientation, passing said blank around a radial expansion mandrel (12); gauging and cooling while subjecting the blank to axial traction. The radial expansion produced on the mandrel (12) is partial so that the internal diameter (B) of the blank (E), when it leaves the mandrel, is less than the nominal internal diameter (D) of the finished tube; performing an additional radial expansion of the blank, up to its nominal diameter, by internal fluid pressure. In permanent operating conditions, the inner surface of the blank (E) is no longer in contact with the mandrel (12).Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2001Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: AlphacanInventors: Bernard Prevotat, Guillaume Duval

Patent number: 6863860Abstract: A method of inspecting wall thickness of blow-molded plastic containers includes providing a blow-molder having a plurality of molds and a plurality of associated spindles. The containers are inspected by impinging infrared light thereon and detecting the portion of the infrared light that passes through the container and converting the same into corresponding electrical signals which are delivered to a microprocessor. The microprocessor compares the electrical signals with stored information regarding desired wall thickness of the container and emits output thickness information. The microprocessor receives signals from sensors associated with the blow-molder relating to the position of the molds, the identity of the molds and the identity of the spindles in order that the wall thickness information that is determined by inspection can be associated with specific molds and spindles. The wall thickness information may be averaged over a period of time or a number of containers.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2002Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: AGR International, Inc.Inventors: Craig A.
